Magneton over the course of three generations went from the most forgettable Electric-type to a metagame-defining mon who excels at trapping and killing the best physical wall in the game.

@@bananaspice1967 Still not forgettable. Gen 1 Magneton is easily the best electric type you can get outside of Zapdos. I'd argue its better than Jolteon easily too, higher sp.attack (and sp.defense) access to decent mixed attacking options and with stat exp magneton outspeeds almost everything in the game so Jolteon's high speed only really matters for crit chances. I've used Magneton plenty of times in gen 1 playthroughs and it is an absolute monster. I still stand by my point. Magneton was never forgettable. Magnet pull just made it better by turning it into a competitive titan
@Nitosa3 ай бұрын
@@LeonSKennedy-b9v i agree that it's better than jolteon in a ingame run because of how stat exp favors mag a lot more, but definitely not in gen 1 competitive aka the thing this thread is about, since his benchmarks and lack of a strong distinctive upside from Zapdos or jolt just doesn't mash well with gen 1 OU.

Idk I’m not sure it’s winning the most forgettable electric. It had some of the most raw power in gen 1 of electrics ( the only one with higher special is zapdos) and it’s interesting for how inflexible it is. Mimic is honestly probably it’s best 4th move after substitute for its third slot and twave and tbolt for obvious reasons. And in gen 2 we’ll at least electric steel is a unique and solid typing. Not quite lanturn level on the whole I’m carried by my type dual type electric but still good.

About Magmar having Flame Body in Fire Red and Leaf Green: the ability would have no effect, since the effects outside battle of abilities have been introduced in Emerald. This means that Magcargo can't help with that in Ruby and Sapphire too, it only works from Emerald onwards.

Meowth gets an insane utility boost with pickup in-game, being able to farm nuggets Kingdra becomes the fastest OU pokemon in gen 3 due to its swift swim ability And of course, our boy Azumarill started to get better and better during the series due to its stupidly insane ability

Great list! I never knew Typhlosion was the best for a Colosseum run. I figured Feraligator would be the best because of Surf and every battle is a double battle.
@Genoci3 ай бұрын
I actually thought the same thing. It's probably because Surf doesn't deal enough damage. Spread moves deal less damage when there's more than 1 target on the field and it's Feraligatr's strongest Water type attack for a majority of the game.

Surf also has a really slow animation. Animation speed is a huge factor for xd colloseum speedruns as those games are slow af

Note that the games don't compute fractional accuracy, instead rounding with halves rounding down so for example Compound Eyes will only boost accuracy from 75% to 97%. (I think it's even worse with accuracy modifiers which don't even get rounded but at least 75% at +1 accuracy/-1 evasion is still 100%.)

To this day, I think giving Wobbuffet Shadow Tag was the most infuriating decision. It turned Wobbuffet from a mostly useless gimmick pokemon in competitive play to an obnoxiously intrusive sacky free KO. In Gen 2, you could choose not to play Wobbuffet's game and switch to something that could put it to sleep or otherwise put the odds in your favor. But in Gen 3, even if you have an out to Wobbuffet, you can't switch to it once Wobbuffet is out and that takes away a whole layer of the mind games competitive battling is supposed to be about. So if, at any point, you have a pokemon that isn't prepared to deal with Wobbuffet, you just have to take the L and hit into Destiny Bond or somehow try to bait it into using something else. And then, of course, it also introduced a soft-lock state in its own mirror match.

Hold on, I thought the halved hatching through Flame Body and Magma Armor was a thing introduced in EMERALD, so it wouldn’t exist in FRLG

Just a small nitpick: sand damage revealing who's faster is a mechanic exclusive to Showdown. In the original games, it's random. Not that it's relevant since no one plays ADV OU on cart, but I just wanted to point it out.
