If you want a quiet helmet, don't choose a flip-face, and look underneath the padding at the styrene lining. Many manufacturers re-use the styrene shell from an open-face helmet - to save costs - leaving a noise channel directed right at your ear. Shark Skwal I'm looking at you.

just sucks that HJC went with the Sena intercom preperation, wich is the reason I didn't buy it. mounting a Cardo on top of it (especially the slim variant) would be a pain in the....

I found the opposite, after a 4862km bike tour. The Neotec 3 is awful for noise, and I wear airplugs compared to my Arai RX7-V Evo.

One thing I noticed in helmet noise is that head position makes a big difference. I have shoei neotec 2 but i ride it on a supersport, which its not made for. The buffeting noise from the space between my neck and the helmet rim is just awefull. However when I stick my head up and keep it more horizontal the noise is gone. So these test results should really be linked to riding in the same position as your test rider, but probably also a bunch of other factors like headshape, neck width, windscreen etc..

While all this is true the thing to note is the comparison is between helmets in the same condition meaning on YOUR head and on YOUR bike the peak number might be different BUT the difference between helmets should be the same.

Tested some of the helmets on the naked bike , and we got completly different results. Race helmets performed better. Numbers from video are reliable only in similar conditions of riders body angle and where is the windscreen. But if you are leaned forward om nakeds where there is no wind protection and deflectipn some touring helmets scream. Look for helmets that are aerodinamicaly designed for this exact scenarios.

Yes, in this case it is. You have some really quiet modular helmets.

Yes and one reason is the opening for you neck can be much tighter blocking wind and road noise than a full face because it breaks open to put it on. The full face helmet has to have a larger opening to go over your head.

The RPHA 91 ranks top here.. but on every website people are complaining about the noise and overall build quality of this helmet. I'm confused. :(

I've had my RPHA 91 for about a year and the only issue I have with it is the front is a little heavy so it seems to slide down to just above my eyes. I swapped to a size down in the liner inside and that eliminated that problem. No issues with performance, the visor and modular parts have no issues. It's quiet and the airflow seems sufficient. I was actually considering getting a second one so I can rotate them after longer rides.

Although I’ve only got the c3 pro helmet , the c5 is just as good for noise reduction, I like my helmets really tight on the head , so that once on you have to flatten the tops of your ears inside, but not tight enough to give you a pinching headache . I used a decimal meter on the outside of my helmet and when over 70 mph the decibels can go past 100 easily, but it never exceeds 80 inside brilliant , which means I don’t need earplugs . Ps I’m 73 and have my ears checked regularly and there perfect for my age and no damage. 😊👍👍

I have both the Schuberth C5 and the HJC RPHA 91 and the Schuberth is much quieter. However, the features for the HJC helmet are superior do I never wear my Schuberth anymore.

Honestly, there is a lot of noise "perception" in the market. Some people find relatively quiet helmets to be "extremely noisy". Allthough it's not the case if you compare them to their direct competitors, this will always remain the case. Some RPHA71 come with defects from the factory. Mine was unbearable even at speeds of 50kmh. I had to put a masking tape all over the bottom of the helmet to make it how it should be. I sent it to the factory and I am waiting for the response.

U shuld test the diffrent noise leve on intergrated intercom an externaly mouted one. I cant understand how a big company can aprove a bad adapter like the one for the gt air 3 to fit the srl 2. pls look in to that sulution and try not to laugh

The test is the same for all helmets and the screen is lower than the rider's head.

@Championhelmets that doesn't matter, the wind still doesn't hit the helmet directly, certainly not on the bottom. The wind is reflected upwards, maybe hitting the helmet on top a little. Try driving a naked bike and you'll experience something else. I read too many comments online where people bought one of these most quiet helmets, and they experienced them being extremely loud.

Please also test on naked bikes. Noise is a more important factor there and helmets can have different noise compared to the type of bike.

A naked bike doesn't benefit a particular helmet guys. As you can see the wind shield is set very low. Again the same for all helmets. A different bike would hardly effect the results as we do tests on other bikes. But most important this bike doesn't favor any specific helmet which is essential to make a comparison. This is obviously not a scientific test under 100% controllable conditions. We try to compare helmets and do this in an objective and fair comparison that doesn't favor a specific helmet. We can't please every single individual in the world, but fortunately many riders across the globe appreciate the effort we put in to make a fair comparison.

I live in a very hot climate here in Greece at summers, and i definitely want a modular helmet that it is quiet and light enough. Do you think RPHA 91 carbon is the right choice?

The rpha91 is an excellent choice. It is very quiet, comfortable, ventilates well and relatively light for a modular helmet. So yes it is a reat choice.
