Today’s video is regarding 10 rarely seen creatures
10 ) Shoebill Stork
The shoebill stork is an impressive and somewhat ugly dinosaur-like bird that is found in Uganda. The shoebill stork does not take no for an answer! The species is aggressive. They fight off small and large animals alike. If a weak animal comes across their path, the stork will leap from their hiding place to turn it into a meal.
9 ) Brazilian Tree Hopper
What has six legs and two pairs of balls? No, it’s not the start of a lewd joke. It’s the Brazilian treehopper, a pea-sized, rainforest-dwelling insect that sports a headdress worthy of a royal wedding.
The purpose of these bizarre, helicopter-like orbs - actually an elaborate ‘pronotum’ (an insect body segment just behind the head) - is still something of a mystery.
8 ) Bald Uakari
The bald uakari (Cacajao calvus Ucayali) is an Amazonian primate with peculiar features: it has a bright red, bald face, a short tail, and ruddy fur. This monkey is highly specialized and is found mainly in palm tree habitats. It has a limited distribution range, and the largest known populations are found at the mouth of the Yavari Mirin river, in the border between Peru and Brazil. Its red face is an indicator of good health, and it reflects a balanced diet of fruit, seeds, flowers, and insects. The bald uakari lives in family groups, although young males will often desert to establish their own families.
7 ) the Blue Dragon
These sea slugs are pelagic; they float upside down by using the surface tension of the water to stay up, where they are carried along by the winds and ocean currents. Glaucus atlanticus makes use of countershading. The blue side of their body faces upwards, blending in with the blue of the water. The silver/grey side of the sea slugs faces downwards, blending in with the sunlight reflecting on the ocean's surface when viewed facing upwards underwater.
6 ) The Barreleye Fish
Even in a world full of adaptations for seeing in near-total darkness, the barreleye fish (Macro pinna micro stoma) stands out as one of the most bizarre. Two small indentations where eyes might normally appear on a fish are the barreleye’s olfactory organs, and its eyes are two glowing green orbs behind its face that gaze up towards the top of its head.
5 ) The Philippine Eagle
The Philippine Eagle, as its name suggests, is found only in the Philippines, an island country in Southeast Asia. While the Philippines consists of more than 7,000 islands, the Philippine Eagle is found on only four of them, all within the northern and eastern regions of the country.
4 ) The Pangolin
Pangolins are uniquely covered in tough, overlapping scales. These mammals eat ants and termites using an extraordinarily long, sticky tongue, and are able to quickly roll themselves up into a tight ball when they feel threatened. Eight different pangolin species can be found across Asia and Africa. Poaching for illegal wildlife trade and habitat loss have made these incredible creatures one of the most threatened groups of mammals in the world.
3 ) The Seneca White Dear
The white deer found at Seneca Army Depot are a natural variation of the white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus), which usually have brown colouring. The Seneca White Deer are leucitic, meaning they lack all pigmentation in the hair, but have the normal brown-coloured eyes.
2 ) The Yangtze Finless Porpoise
Finless porpoises live in the Yangtze River in China, where they can be found in the main river channel and two large lakes connected to the river - Poyang and Dongting and in two oxbow lakes, Tien Ezhou and He wangmiao, where they have been recently translocated to.
1 ) The Borneo Pygmy Elephant
The Bornean Elephant is a subspecies of the Asian Elephant, physically and behaviourally different from the elephants of mainland Asia.
Known locally and commonly as ‘Bornean Pygmy Elephants’, they are about a fifth smaller than mainland Indian Elephants but similar in size to populations of Sumatra and the Malaysian Peninsula. They are generally more rotund in appearance with shorter trunks and a smaller round face, which makes their ears appear larger.
