40% of co2 emissions are from the electric sectors, considering the US has a substantial amount of coal power plants (about 60) powering our cities. passenger vehicles, which is what the EV market is geared towards, only produce about 15% of CO2 emissions in america. If everyone drove an EV, these coal power plants would increase their output at levels that would cancel out any benefits EVs produce in terms of CO2 emissions. We need to invest in getting away from coal plants, and invest in tech that improves fuel consumptions in engines, and exhaust systems that eliminate CO2 output. That is what we have been doing and todays gas vehicles consume less fuels and exhausts filter and reduce CO2 substantially better than vehicles did back in the 70s and 80s.
