Rabiya Mateo of Philippines is one of the front runners of the Miss Universe 2020. She is extremely beautiful, sexy, intelligent and ready to conquer the universe. Her confidence and eloquence are evident during her interviews.
Coming from a country that takes pride as a beauty pageant powerhouse, expectations are high
and the pressure is on.
But when she failed to advance to Top 10, the Filipinos have many questions.
What went wrong? Bakit natalo si Rabiya Mateo?
Here are the possible reasons why Rabiya Mateo failed to advance to Top 10. Most of these points were sourced from public opinion.
On a personal note, I believe she could have been one of the best Miss Universe queens in the history, if only she was given the chance to advance. She would have definitely slain the Q & A portion.

Reasons why she lost: 1. Yung mga creative decisions ni Jonas Gafud (MUP Creative Director) and Shamcey Supsup (MUP National Director) are outdated. Kulang sa taste. Out of touch sa reality. 2. Pang-prom na prelims yellow gown. May pakpak or “cape” sa likod nagmukhang maliit si Rabiya. 3. Pina-bukol pa ang suso ni Rabiya-nagmukhang peke. Antigas tignan. Abot hanggang leeg. 4. Yung walk ni Rabiya, masyadong makendeng at malambot. kulang sa snappy, kulang sa pitik, kulang sa fierceness. Walang signature style na lakad. Walang signature, consistent turns and poses. Consistency is important. 5. Hinayaang magbabad sa social media si Rabiya. Nagka-meltdown sa social media. Her crying over a national costume na hindi naman scored was a sign of weakness amidst the competition. If Miss U org watched her video, talo na talaga. Why would Miss U org give the crown to a crybaby? 6. Pagkabigat-bigat na natcos kala mo pasan ni Rabiya ay sako ng bigas. Sobrang balahibo pa-anong unique don? Corny yung design. Feeling victoria secret ang drama. Incomplete pa. Dapat truly Filipino vibe talaga. Inspired nga sa Philippine flag, pero hanggang duh lang. 6. Yung finals orange gown ni Rabiya, parang naka-sando sa taas. pina-enhance na rin lang yung suso, e di sana pumili ng gown na medyo kita yung cleavage. after all the boobs enhancement, they suddenly decide to cover her chest for her finals gown. Halatang hindi planado ng maigi ang karamihan ng mga decisions nila. 7. Rabiya’s attitude. She is overconfident sa labas. Pero madaling mag-crumble sa loob. Hindi siya tunay na confident na tao. Madaling maapektuhan sa external factors kasi hindi buo ang kanyang core. She is too much of a people-pleaser. Always looking for external approval. 8. Last but not the least: OA, over-nationalistic, over-assuming, over-demanding, over-expecting, over-maepal na Pinoy fans. Each year, mas toxic. Each year, mas mayabang. Each year, laging nag-eexpect na manalo as if tayo lang ang magaling. Konting humility naman diyan. Hindi talaga tayo mananalo niyan. At ok lang. We need to learn our lessons well before we can win.

100% correct. That crying moment of hers made her downfall to be honest. Miss Universe is a very hectic job and the winner should be able to deal with all kinds of pressure and I guess this crying video proves that she’s not ready for that. Rabiya’s beautiful don’t get me wrong I guess she’s not emotionally ready to take the role of Miss Universe and the judges saw that. (It’s not the Latin winner issue but the judges are there to screen the candidates and they see every aspect of the woman they are looking for, an Unapologetic woman who will never feel sorry for who she is and that is confidently beautiful)

Everything went wrong even before the prelims. Her supporters were just nasty and made noise between her and other candidates like Canada. That’s why don’t open your social media and be emotionally affected by a lot of things especially between the PH and other countries’ supporters. I had a feeling something bad was gonna happen when she did a live and cried. She was one of the most followed delegates and it was virtually impossible for her to be safe from all the negative comments that would inevitably come out afterwards. It basically sealed her fate and it broke my heart because I still had faith in her, but after seeing her performance in the swimsuit portion, I knew this was where she would end her journey.

When you treat winning Miss Universe as if your life depends on it, there’s something very wrong with you and the desperation is visible in your performance. Everything you do is calculated and it’s not classy. Zozibini Tunzi from South Africa is such a glorious winner because it’s authentic and believable when she talks about the work she does empowering women and mentoring young women in SA. It drips with passion and heart when you hear her speak. It reflects the core and soul of the person she is. And that’s why she has the X-factor that isn’t even apparent in many winners of the past. She’s not in it to score brownie points when she talks about HIV aids or other CSR causes that you hear so many contestants get involved in or pretend to do so just because they think it makes them look good. You can’t pretend to be an authentic person. This video if anything shows desperation to appease fans to win a competition. Nothing about it reflects a passionate leader and positive role model for women, but one of many beauty clones overly trained to win, pose, walk, speak in a certain way, but doesn’t represent the essence and spirit of a truly deserving winner - that’s assuming this competition isn’t looking for more uninspiring and predictable CLONES, which are really boring.

Everything said right about her team and styling, over confidence that bordered on cockiness, and especially about that online breakdown, she also said during her panel interview that she lost her identity along the way. This was a big blow since the MU panel is looking for someone genuine with a bright and shining heart for all of humanity, not only for themselves or their country. Rabiya honestly reserved so much of herself because of the know when to peak strategy, backfired on her. She also was inconsistent in eg and ss and a lot of filipinos will say her speaking skills are phenomonal but my argument is that it wont matter if you arent as strong in swimsuit and eg and rabiyas been inconsistent because she likes to focus more on speaking skills. So we shouldn’t expect too much every year. After Cat, I think matagal-tagal pa na bago manalo ulit ang Pilipinas. So if we continue this vicious cycle of pagka-OA natin, any next Filipino representatives will have a hard time surviving the competition. Bawasan ang gigil. Bawasan ang epal. Iwasan ang toxicity.
