picked up an '01 F250 7.3l last month with 205k miles. did some maintenance (replaced some leaking seals, coolant and oil change, replaced a few sensors etc) and it runs amazing! already has a 4" level kit on it, straight piped with no emissions systems, got it for only $7600. Never been happier with a vehicle purchase.

I’ve got an 02 7.3 as well, I’ve put 60k bought at 159k, and the only issues I’ve had are the passenger door pocket thing breaking and the heater core spraying (which to me is typical for Ford). Other than that, she’s been the best vehicle I’ve owned. I can’t say any other vehicle can limp with no lower coolant hose for 30 miles and not need a new motor and a tow truck

I think a 7.3 would outlast a 6.7 by quite a bit. With all the new technology a 6.7 will be mechanically Witten off while a 7.3 keeps going and is cheap to fix.

We’ve had 3 of them and every one has had 650,000 miles on them (Or more) the one we have now is just over 715,000 and it’s pulled big rigs, the first one we had had a minor Downpipe leak. But they also hold their value. The first one we bought we paid $9500 for it and when a f-750 rear ended me the insurance company paid off $12,500. A little known fact is that they have a steel pipe in the door. It saved me and my workers life in a jackknife with a gooseneck on the back. 15,000 lb load and the steel bars on the front punctured the door in three different places. The frame was bent and the truck still made it home (7.5 hours away) we just bulletproofed a 6.0 and it’s a dually (our first dually pick up)

I bought a 2001 F-250 XLT Crew Cab Short Bed four months ago and I have LOVED every single minute of it. Mpg is awful & turning radius is even worse, and it's STILL by far the best truck I have ever owned. At best I'm a novice weekend mechanic, but I have found the repairs/maintenance on the 7.3 to be surprisingly manageable. HPOP Cover/EBP Sensor Replaced Air Filter Replacement Fuel Filter Replacement Seafoam Injector Cleaner process HPOP side outfitting & o-ring replacement (was leaking oil, stopped leak, shop wanted almost 3gs to do repair) Something I have also found that can help a lot, tighten up the turbo boots!! The bolts that secure the hoses to and from the turbo. This isn't just the 7.3, but more the Superduty of this era in general but something that drives me F**KING BONKERS is the plastic clips they use to plug wires into harnesses. At least AT LEAST 60 percent of the plastic clips will break before they detach properly. It's rage inducing and the clips are EVERYWHERE inside and out.

7.3 (aka Navistar 444E) has the most durable long block on the market. It was designed for a savage duty cycle: either a commercial Class V or a school bus. Start-and-stop. Start-and-stop. All day long. Most commercial users get 800,000 miles out of them with good maintenance. Mine has 355,000 miles. I'm the original owner. I spec'd it out from the factory. I dodged some of the major problems. I use full synthetic oil and change it every two years or 40,000 miles. Lab analysis has never shown a trace of metal in the lube oil. I use non-aqueous coolant (Evans). No cavitation on the front cooling jacket. The engine did fail a water pump at 225,000 miles and I borescoped the jacket. Zero cavitation pitting.

i realize i found this video 2 years later, but i'm looking at an 01 F-250 Lariat with 383k on it. Owned buy and older gentleman for the last 15 years and repainted within the last 5 years and the only thing done is exhaust aftermarket, not even been chipped or tuned. All the work during that time was done at ford dealerships. Finding this video made me feel good about it. I gotta watch your "bad" video but i need a diesel to pull a 7x14 enclosed trailer for my detailing business. Btw, like to see the NC tag.

I did adjust the nut behind the wheel. My ex called me "Sir Coast-a-lot." This thing easily coasts a mile in flat terrain. It's just a matter of paying attention. Unlike the Cummins, boys I drive the limit. I know a couple of 24-valve guys who claim 30+ MPG but I've never seen them drive over 45 MPH. Here in Indiana people won't shoot you for driving like that, but they might throw a chair at you.

If you get one of these trucks, before you do any go fast or look good mods or tech upgrades, just spend the $ on maintenance and servicing first. Take a couple thousand and just invest it back into the truck on things like, all fluids and filters replaced/flushed, water pump (thermostat and housing too), CPS, ICP, IPR, bellowed up pipes, intake plenums, EBP sensor and tube, passenger side head fuel line, front wheel bearings, sway bar end links and bushings (front and rear), steering box, tie rods, drag link, pitman arm, dip stick oil pan seal, blah blah blah.

@@22goDpeehs It’s funny you say this. Cause I’m kinda searching for one right now, I’m considering a 7.3 is more of my budget but it’s harder to find one clean. Dents I don’t care about but it’s penetrating rust that I don’t want. Already have it on my F150 and I hate to see it. A 6.0 I gotta admit would like to have one with the coil overs just for the slightly tighter steering not ride comfort. But with a 6.0 I’ve seen people love em and others despise them.

Driving a lot of road miles, I used to be a MPG nut. May have to become one once again, seeing what the government is doing with fuel prices. The manual transmission helps a bunch. I put a 3.08 R&P set in it as well as a Gear Vendor 20% electric overdrive. On OEM-sized rubber (the best for MPG) the trucks runs down the Interstate (70 MPH) ticking over 1325 RPM and 600 degrees EGT. Driving the posted limit I get 24 MPG without a tonneau. 25-26 with a tonneau and with a homemade "fastback" top I coaxed 28.5 out of it

If I be honest I used to have a 7.3 it was a 2003 model also was a king ranch and crew cab only having 20000 miles on it and I always had enjoyed driving it super powerful reliable truck and thats until I came up on a 2nd gen dodge 3500 non dually that was a four door with the legendary Cummins in it paired with a 5 speed manual and having a long bed and I love my dodge as much as my ford but I love the dodge more not because of Cummins or anything it was just because of that sweet manual that paired up with a diesel makes it a real men's truck unlike chevy durmax with thier gasic problems

funny part about diesel's if you want better fuel economy is to crank up the power bigger injectors , hot tunes, and delete that worthless cat cause diesel burns to cool to make it work anyhow

@@scootertrash647 I think mine is pro comp replacement springs, 3 leafs instead of 2. My ball joints don’t last very long either haha. Only at 97k miles and gone through 3 sets. About to do the axle swap and will use all the highest quality parts and see how long that lasts. I lost my daily driver a while back and need the truck to be easier to whip around in parking lots, angry people are always annoyed that I need more room to turn 🙄. “tHeY dOn’T uNdErStAnD dO tHeY??” haha But hey if you have better luck then me that’s great, I have some property out in the desert but I usually only drive on the street so I guess it’s just the constant turning that stresses all the components. I tow trailers occasionally and they are pretty heavy but nothing over 13k haha

@@jensenleblanc ya I got a 8ft bed crew cab. I need the ocean to turn around lol. I did the adjustable track bar and drop down pitman arm and haven't had any ball joint issues. But they are known for it. I use Moog and had great luck. Others say different. Alot of little factors that affect the outcome. I've had good luck so I keep it the way it is. Would like a lift but if it ain't broke. Don't fuck with it lol
