I don't weigh food or count calories, but calories still count. Chef AJ's simple calorie density guide is very helpful, I mostly eat to the left of the red line. I weight myself daily. I call stress-eating "discomfort eating." I am mindful of how fat and ashamed I would feel if I binged again - not worth it, and the floodgates would open as I remain a food addict. I never buy snacks or trigger foods, do not bring them home or order them online! I order all my supermarket food online so I only have healthy food delivered, no junk or processed food. I only visit the fruit and veggie aisle in my local shops. I say no firmly with a smile to anyone offering me junk, and all my friends don't even offer it anymore, they accept this is not food for me. I feed animals in the park to get me out of the house - life is tough for them too. Being slim and healthy makes me feel I can cope with stress better, loving your body is a great feeling and I never liked myself when I was fat.

I’m glad to hear you talk about our protein needs, particularly as we get older. A lot of plant based gurus say if you’re eating enough calories, you’re getting enough protein, and that just isn’t true. Eating a pound of vegetables for breakfast doesn’t work for very long. I calculated I was only getting about 30 grams of protein and I was losing muscle mass. Now I calculate my protein at all three meals and I’m feeling so much better! I appreciate this video. Thank you!

I agree. Since I’ve been eating more protein, I’ve seen my nails grow and my skin looks better. I feel stronger with my workouts too. I am so glad I listened and tried it for myself.

The common denominator among my clients who "can't lose weight" is the processed foods. Show me someone who is struggling with weight, and I can just about make a safe bet, that they're eating too much processed food. Processed and ultraprocessed foods effectively contain more calories than the label states, as a function of how quickly and completely they're absorbed. Anyone with weight to lose, should eat unprocessed 100%.

Totally agree, I love cooking from scratch, prepping delicious salads, soups, stews, etc. Simple food but delicious.

I always have a fruit salad (watermelon and cantaloupe melon), salad and delicious oil-free soup in my fridge. No junk or processed food. Even if I was tempted by cravings, I would not be able to indulge them. It can be this simple if you want it to. I used to bring pastries into the house to eat "in moderation", of course I ended up bingeing on them every time. Very few people can eat treat/trigger/ultra-processed food in moderation, so don't feel ashamed about your cravings but don't tease your taste buds either. And absolutely NO CHEAT DAYS!

To people who can't do without (olive) oil I say, if you like the taste so much, try eating it neat and see if you really love it. Better to just eat a couple of olives. If you eat olive oil, where do you think the fat is going to go? Put the olive oil bottle on your tummy - this is where it is going to go!

Thanks for talking about what a realistic weight loss rate is. I went WFPB 4 months ago and am losing about 1 pound a month. That may seem very slow but I probably only have about 15-20 pounds I could lose before being too thin. My starting BMI was 23. Losing weight wasn't my reason for going WFPB, I did it because I've always wanted to + my cholesterol started to creep up with perimenopause. It brought my LDL down very quickly.

I too only lost 1lb a month after a while, sometimes not even that, but it's better than nothing and you may find that after a while, with a few tweaks (more exercise, one less higher-calorie food), you will start losing more, sometimes when you least expect it.

@@luluandmeow thanks. I think if I ever get frustrated I will possibly make some tweaks but weight loss isn't my goal so I'm fine with it. Since this is a lifelong change I'm making I may have to focus on weight gain (or at least not loss) at some point because I don't want my weight to get too low. At this rate, I have 1-2 years before that's a concern.
