Most of my chord vocabulary comes from Alex Lifeson. Thanks Alex.

Lifeson lui-même ne peut pas décrire sa musique si théoriquement. Excellente présentation. Merci! Ruuuuuuuush! 🎉❤🍁🔥🎸🌈🇨🇦

Hello Antoine! Yes, the pedaling of open d string is quite a pull from Pete Townshend in the "Tommy/Live at Leeds" era. And Lerxst was a fan of The 'Oo. (Sorry, I'm actually in southeast Michigan, a HUGE Rush fanbase.) When I was younger in the previous century we played 2112 with all barre/power chords also, lol! I'm a big fan of theirs. I met Neil (RIP) at a radio station for the Hemispheres tour, Alex in Port Huron, MI., during a mini-tour before "A Farewell To Kings was released". We were shocked to see a synth in Geddy's spot on stage. We were the first audience to hear it. Met Geddy when he was promoting his "My Favourite Headache" at a record store. And I played Alex's (now auctioned) white ES-355 and the Pyramid custom before he did. They were at the now defunct Pyramid Guitars in Redford, MI. I knew the owner Paul "Cowboy" Smith thru my oldest brother. They originally only made pickups, and Alex had a set on his sunburst Les Paul circa 2112. Anyway, please forgive my digressing. Thanks for the enlightening lesson. You revved me up to strech out my old arthritic hands and practice. Also, if your a big Rush fan, whadd'ya think of their former touring mates, Max Webster/Kim Mitchell/Pye Dubois(Paul Woods). I would love to learn "In Context of the Moon", "Paradise Skies", "Beyond the Moon", etc. The live album "Live Magnetic Air" kicks it! It's fun to play "Battlescar" as a third guitarist. I'm stoked!!!! Time to practice/play. Later!

This day, Antoine, is the day that you rule over all of KZbin! I loved your Tom Sawyer tutorial, and so it's wonderful to see you dive into the essence of what makes Lerxt's chord voicings so special on Moving Pictures. Clearly demonstrated with enthusiasm! Please consider developing this into an occasional series with other Rush albums. Listening to Alex Lifeson over the years has taught me so much about mood and harmony, and yep, his use of sus notes is definitely one of his signature sounds. I love this video mate! It's made my day. Thank you! ❤

Hi Antoine! So happy to see you covering Rush, one of my favorite bands! Alex Lifeson deserves more recognition for its complex and clever chords and voicings. I can't get enough of his solo on Limelight, which is a lesson of "emotional-clever-minimalism". 🙂

Lifeson is awesome! When you watch guitar lessons from him, you just learn that... he has/had no clue. It's just what fell under his fingers! A ''sus2'' chord doubled on the bass just makes no sense theoritically, and even sonically. The chord alone like this sounds ''wrong'', like it's not what's exactly in the song (which is why so many people play it in other ways by ear). But that created his unique style. And the fact that the chord ''needs'' the bass part from Geddy Lee to make sense, contributes to the unity of this trio, which is what made them super special. Sometimes it's hard to believe that they were just 3 in the band when you listen to their music. Great conversation!
