Nice to see Thunderstrike on the list. Loved that game. One of the few that the cut scenes actually mattered. You had to listen to the mission briefings to know what to do. A fun game at was ahead of it's time in a lot of ways.

With regards to Snatcher, the original version ended at the end of chapter 2 (with Harry dying & Gillian vowing to avenge his death). The third chapter was added for western audiences, specifically for the MegaCD. This also entiled removing or editing a few scenes of nudity (dead female Snatcher & Katrina in the shower). It's also the reason the 3rd chapter has a 25-minute section of pure exposition and nearly no player interaction.

Great list! Plenty of good reasons to own a Sega CD. I'm glad I got one and I have most of the games on the list even an original Snatcher! I also have to mention Terminator Popful Mail, the Lunar Series and Earthworm Jim, The Adventures of Batman & Robin and even Pier Solar with the Music CD disc.

+wizzgamer I am an RPG fan. My favorites are Chrono Trigger, Lufia I and II, Breath of Fire I and II on Super NES, Phantasy Star VI on Sega Genesis (a game that would have been even better on Sega CD) Grandia, Alundra, Final Fantasy VII, Suikoden I and II on Playstation 1, the Dragon Warrior/Quest series, the Legend of Zelda series, the first three Wild Arms games on Playstation 1 and 2, Skies of Arcadia (GameCube version as I didn't have a Sega Dreamcast).
@wizzgamer9 жыл бұрын
+john tracy Would have been great if they had released a enhanced version of Phantasy Star IV for the Sega CD with added voice overs and FMV clips. But it would have sold poorly if it was released on the Sega CD only as originally planned. Final Fantasy VIII is my favourite over the others as I became more attached to the characters in that one.
@dominickagapov70538 жыл бұрын
+john tracy sounds like we played RPGs around the same time. Have you tried Beyond the Beyond, on PS1? I think it was the first RPG on the PS1
@johntracy728 жыл бұрын
+Dominick Agapov I recently bought Beyond the Beyond for Playstation again. I didn't think to highly of it 19 years ago, but playing through it again, I think it was actually pretty good for the time. One similarity it had to Lunar The Silver Star and Lunar Eternal Blue was that your main character had a dragon. Also, later on, the Golden Sun games had a similar battle engine to Beyond the Beyond as Camelot made both games.

Haha, I know that you never claimed that the games on this list would be affordable, but Snatcher will run you about as much as a copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga and to be honest, I would rather have the later for the investment. A game which was well ahead of its years for the SNES, was Uncharted Waters New Horizons.

True its sad how a lot of amazing games have Sky rocketed 🚀 but that's sadly mainly down to KZbinrs making them more well known and the prices rise. Sega cd and 32x were the big and fatal mistakes by Sega.They created 2 add ons that were 2x as expensive as a console which could only be used by existing owners of genesis. It could have used those resources to develop the new 32 bit cd-rom console instead. It would have had a year lead to Playstation and 3-4 years lead to Nintendo's new console.

The only advantage of CD medium back then was some animations and enhanced music. It was similar nonsense as Amiga CDTV and CD32. The main problem is underpowered hardware which can't do much with the CD-ROM capacity.

Men the mega cd featured for scaling, rotation and much other fx like SNES but much powerfull
@mattx54994 жыл бұрын
@@benjaminzuniga5750 Maybe it had the power to do some crazy things, but how many games used that? Amiga CD32 could play mpeg video CDs back in 1993, but I don't know anybody who watched movies on it. Some games used this for intros that were less than minute long. The first console that really used the CD format was PS1. It was used for multitrack music and sound effects, textures, 3D animation and cutscenes. Some of the games were released on more than one disc. Before that the CD medium was a waste of money. Except audio CDs of course.

@Mechakick6 жыл бұрын
I think the graphics are the same specs but you do get a Mode 7 type of background plane and it can project video behind the sprites from what I can read into the graphics from the games I have. The games do benefit from the huge storage space available on the CD. If you have a TG-CD it is a similar platform, but a slight edge in graphics to the TG-CD. Some of the Sega CD games are very, very good... but you can say that for Genesis also.

I remember being highly disappointed in Silpheed, and well, most Sega CD games. Joe Montana Football was not worth the wait. Most port-over games only had improvements in sound, and the "extra plane" of graphics that Sega CD boasted, thus making games like NHL Hockey and NBA Jam only a little bit better. I was a big fan of Batman Returns--the driving levels and soundtrack were nice, showing glimpses of what the system could really do, which was basically what Super NES was already doing. Trying to get excited about games like Jurassic Park and even Sherlock Holmes was hard to do when they were painfully plagued by slowdown. As an 18 year old, I wanted to like Sega CD but overall it was a very expensive letdown. I don't even know if I could come up with my own top 10. Maybe a top 10 list of games that were just "OK." I might have owned a total of 10 games.
@wizzgamer7 жыл бұрын
Silpheed was an awesome shump and Sonic CD and snatcher were must haves but your right a lot of games offered barely anything over their Mega Drive counterparts other than CD quality music and sound.
