Top 10 Ski Resorts in Austria | 2022/23

Visited Kitzbuhel and Saalbach, my family always goes to Soll in the next valley over and I worked in Ischgl for a winter. My personal favourite is Saalbach though. Ischgl is snow-sure but felt pretentious, Soll and Kitzbuhel while extensive can suffer a bit too much from lack of snow in poor seasons due to their altitude. But Saalbach has just the right blend of slopes, welcoming atmosphere and tyrolean charm to make it my top pick in Austria. Other people probably have their favourites and that's fine, skiing is something that should be enjoyed by everyone no matter where your go to place is

Could believe it as I have skied all of them. Based in UK I regularly drive a 4x4, fitted with snow tyres and carried a set of snow chains doing a two-week trip every years. With a 4x4 one can book say at the middle of Zillertal Valley in Myhofen and try every resort in the valley on a super Zillertal ski pass. It is the same for Ski Welt, Ski Amade as Austria is in my book the best skiing country. With a car I normally could ski two to three countries and tried 10 to 12 resorts in two weeks. See world of ski like Milky Way, Dolomites, 3V, 4V, expensive Zermatt, , Porte de soleil, resorts form by 2 countries, Paradiski, Espace Killy .................... Europe is the best place for skiing. Don't waste money going to North America as the resorts are much smaller, chairlifts older and ski pass much more expensive. Bad Gastein for example one can ride a fully enclosed gondola with heated heat when in some US or Japanese chairlift the only safety is holding the vertical steel column of your single-seat lift! Places like Zermat you can board a train, put your skis or snowboard on a rack and sit 6 to 10 friends faces to face in comfort going up the piste top.

Thank you for this video. Although I recognize that you had to make some sacrifices, I was surprised that Obertauern did not make it on your list of top 10 ski-resorts in Austria.

To Saalbach, there is actually a Lap you can make around the whole Ski Circus without using a lift twice its 68km Long

I recommend turning off the sound for this video. Anyway, to get an idea of how the slopes fit together in a ski area I would suggest that you use Google maps and zoom in a bit - then the lifts and slopes will appear on the map. I enjoyed Nassfeld, as an intermediate skier. Obertauerns is a good spot for families. We stayed at a hotel on the piste 2 m (sic!) away from the lift for the run with electric lights so you could go for a spin in the evening too. I get the impression that Lech - Zürs - St Anton is rather expensive. I haven't tried it but was surprised to not have anything included from the Brixen - Hopfgarten - Söll - Scheffau am WK - Ellmau area, which seems to be all connected. Kitzbühel is indeed more expensive than other places, at least this was the case in summer.

There are no 3000m peaks in Mayrhofen... You have to go to Hintertux glacier to go that high. 😑
