I reluctantly put Roll Player on the cull pile, tried it as a solo game, and put it right back on the shelf. Love it as a solo puzzle!

An excellent list and I would add the Gloom of Kilforth series to the list as well Shards of Infinity. Marvel Legendary is coming out with a new starter that updates the cards and rules. There were also new solo rules in the recent "What If?" stand alone expansion. How balanced are the classes in Hero Realms as with their own decks I have read the Ranger is overly powerful?
@sologamingspotlight24 күн бұрын
I've played shadows of kilforth and enjoy it. It takes me a bit to set it up though. Shards of Infinity I have only ever played on Steam so I don't know if it has a quick setup time or not. For hero realms I've beaten the game with all the classes, the ranger is able to draw cards which is always excellent but for hero realms the strength of your deck comes from the combos that playing cards of the same color provides. So regardless of which character you play as you need to focus on trying to stick with a color theme to really have powerful turns.
@VF30824 күн бұрын
@@sologamingspotlight Thank you and I will give it greater scrutiny as with the expansions it offers co op and solo options. The artwork is also a draw along with the theme.
@sologamingspotlight24 күн бұрын
@@VF308 definitely agree on the artwork, Star Realms is the sci-fi version of this game which a lot of people have in their top 10 but for me the fantasy theme draws me in.
@VF30823 күн бұрын
@@sologamingspotlight Indeed we all have our favorites. There is a new Star Trek version though it is only a re skin of the original base Star Realms without any alterations as to rules from what has been stated.

No Marvel United? Love that game, so much faster then Marvel Champions, you get an awesome little battle in about 20 minutes.
@sologamingspotlight25 күн бұрын
I own it. It just doesn’t get to my table. When i want to play a superhero game, champions is my go to. I enjoy the card play in that much more. I’ve taught my son and nephews how to play United (all 10 years old) thinking that they may end up helping it get to the table more but whenever I bring it up they always pick a different game. :(

Very useful list/vid topic. This is exactly what i'm looking for. I'd personally rank buttons and bugs higher but thats me. I'll definitely check out your #1. Is there an option for that to make it 2-player?

I ranked them by times played. #1 can be played up to 4 players

@@sologamingspotlight cool. I prefer games that can be done solo but also easily expanded to 2-player while being quick to setup and clean up. This is why i didnt pick up gloomhaven and frosthaven, then just got buttons and bugs and jaws of the lion.

Dice Conquest is my go to solo or coop game for coffee shops. Quick setup and small footprint. Yes the characters are a bit unbalanced but that adds to the random difficulty. I usually play it three or four times a week. Looking forward to the sequel Pathfinder: Dice Conquest coming out next year. Other than that I also play Space Hulk: Death Angel with all the expansions which is sadly out of print now.

@sologamingspotlightАй бұрын
I've only played marvel legendary of the Legendary versions, which I really enjoy but I'm partial to deck builders. I'm a big fan of Friday as well but only have the digital version of it. Is tin helm a tiny version of iron helm? I've heard some other reviewers mention Hellboy more than once, I do plan on checking out For Northwood. I'm so backed up on gameplay right now. And I'll definitely look into Goblin vaults. Thanks for mentioning your favorites. It helps me become aware of games I may have never heard of.

Other games that could fit the list: Set a watch and the recently created Heroes of the Sanctum. Maybe set up takes a little longer than 5 minutes but not much.

In case you haven’t seen, Chip Theory is going to republish Dragons of Etchinstone. Also, I’m in the same boat as you in regards to Champions. I don’t care about Marvel AT ALL. Don’t read the comics, don’t watch the movies. But I play the hell out of Champions.

I own a ton of solo games that get set up in minutes. We share nothing in common, so it's good to see another viewpoint. "Dead Cells: The Rogue-Lite Board Game" is my #1 solo game. @@sologamingspotlight yes with so many games you need to have a ton of luck to find something. I never played DC the video game so it was quite a bet, financially. So far it's superior to StS the board game. In the box, StS slavishly follows the classic old deck building rules, which make it less of a game. Also energy resets no matter what. I'll use my own rules so I can enjoy what should have been the proper game. DC is my #1 game. The retail version seems fine, although I have the deluxe. Both versions are quite cheap compared to StS.
@sologamingspotlightАй бұрын
I just checked it out, now its on my radar. It also looks like it has roots in Castlevania, I remember playing that when I was younger. I hope they bring it to retail because the current asking prices are steep.

That's completely opposite for me. It hits my table so often because I'm up and playing it so quickly but I rarely deck build. I'll swap some cards on occasion but that's almost always after a loss.
@donr284329 күн бұрын
I am definitely on the side of super quick set up. I consider deck construction it’s own thing. Not ‘set up’. I rarely build a deck and play a game the same time. With a pre built deck and tokens in a container, you are up and running in under 5 minutes for sure.

@@mlsanders4800 Can't lose Final Hour? That's definitely not been true in my experience. My main criticism would be that a win or loss can come down to essentially a coin flip, but not that there's no way to lose.
