This will always be my favourite run of The Amazing Spider-Man. Stan and Steve may be gone now, but they sure left behind a legacy. I actually heard that Steve Ditko almost returned to work on some more stories in the 90s. The stories would've taken place during the summer after Peter's graduation, but he decided not to do it when he saw an issue of Untold Tales. Too bad. That would've awesome. Anyway, good video.

Rip Ditko, the most important man in Marvel.

First of all, RIP Steve Ditko. Jack Kirby, Wally Wood and Steve were my favorite Marvel artists back then. My own favorites include: Favorite storyline started with issue #31 "If this be My Destiny". Second favorite storyline started with issue #26 "The Man in the crime master's mask". Favorite Spiderman Annual was #2 which featured Ditko's other creation, Doctor Strange. First Spiderman comic I ever purchased was issue #18 "The End of Spiderman". Favorite Spiderman cover was issue # 28, "The Molten Man".

I can't deny your enjoyment of Spider-Man 1. 33 is my favorite for it's gripping story and its way of showing the enormous burden on Spider-Man's shoulders, physically and emotionally. The final panel when I read it as a boy I cheered out loud. Then of course came the desperate fight and the need to get there in time to save Aunt May. No, I get it, good choice.

It was a hard choice as I said, I could probably flip-flop depending on the day. It was probably influenced, at least in part, by my current frustration with long-form serialized storytelling in comics today. I really miss the good old one-and-dones like Amazing Fantasy 15.

I always found that cover of Amazing 15 funny how he's announcing his identity in public,or maybe those people think he's randomly mentioning some unknown teenager while promoting himself😜

My personal favourite issue from Lee/Ditko's run on Spider-Man is #18 - The End Of Spider-Man. To me, it's pretty perfect, super uplifting and (IMO) it does the whole No More thing much better than #50

From what I hear you are taking Stan Lee's narration. There is a different one... Steve Ditko's. Stan wanted a Sipier-powered hero. Jack Kirby brought him a drawn concept of a "Spider-man" he had conceived 10 years earlier for a different publication. Stan thought that it was too rigid and too familiar with the 1940s and '50's Captain America. He turned to Ditko (who also invented Dr. Strange). IT WAS DITKO who created the costume. You say that Stan came up with the idea of serializing Spider-man. DItko said he wanted the consequences of one story to turn up in another issue.. Concern for Aunt May's illness translated in SPider-man appearing to be a coward (issue 17 to 19) Aunt May needing a transfusion and issues later the radioactive blood of Peter made her sick so he had to find a serum to heal her. Betty mysterious life in Spider-man 10 realized in issue 11. By Stan's own statements (pre-1980s interviews) Stan only gave DItko vague ideas and Steve did the story, then Stan put in the dialogue and the sound effects that Steve found annoying. . At one point, after one of their many arguments about story direction Stan said Steve could do whatever the hell he wanted.

Finally, after almost a year of preparation, here it is: EVERYTHING you ever wanted to know about the creation of Spider-Man, with behind-the-scenes anecdotes of the goings-on at Marvel Comics and appearances by heavyweight comic legends Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko - - - with walk-on bits by comics creators Will Eisner, Joe Simon, Wally Wood, John Romita, John Buscema, Gil Kane, Roy Thomas, Denny O’Neil, Dick Ayers, Don Heck, Bill Everett, Joe Orlando, Eric Stanton, Carl Hubble, Stan Goldberg, Sol Brodsky, Danny Fingeroth, Mark Evanier, Alan Moore & Frank Miller ! Even pop artists Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, writer Ayn Rand & novelist Mario Puzo get into the act !! And of course we cannot forget the man that made it all possible: publisher Martin Goodman. (And the tiny role that Chief Accountant Maurice Coyne played - - btw, don’t you love it when a person’s name matches his job title, like a librarian named Bookman?) But be forewarned, it’s looooong. It’s the equivalent of 26 pages single-spaced ! I made it a bit easier to digest by breaking up the text into 12 sections: 1. Prologue 2. Amazing Fantasy 3. The Marvel Method 4. Storyteller Steve Ditko 5. Jack Kirby’s Spider-Man 6. Ditko Versus Kirby Versus Romita 7. Ditko’s Twist Ending ? 8. Ditko’s Psychology 9. Stan Lee’s Psychology 10. End Of An Era 11. You Tell Me 12. One Final Thought This is not for the faint of heart lol. But if you read to the very end, there’s a mind-blowing thought awaiting there. Oh, I also have many pics that follow the sequence of examples in the text. And be sure to check out some of the KZbin videos and links, especially Strip Panel Naked on Steve Ditko’s drawings and his great storytelling abilities in the visual medium :-) Have fun happy readers ! 1. To read the article, go to this link. www.writerscafe.org/writing/Sienzant/1954464/ 2. Pics that follow the text are on my Facebook page called Vision Angles. There are 4 series of pics, so scroll down to start at the 1st series. They follow the text, highlighting points along the way. Even if you just look at the pics & their blurbs, you may find that enlightening by themselves.

THE LIST: I AGREE with the stories chosen but disagree with their placement. I think The Origin, ...Destiny, End of Spidey and The Crime Master stories should have been in the TOP FOUR THE PLOTTING: You have to give Ditko the lion share of the plotting credits later in the series. As Lee became busier managing Marvel's success, Ditko handled so much of the plotting he demanded a Co Plotter's credit and got it! The Series wasn't the same after he left. Parker went from being a nerdy neurotic to a handsome screw up and has more or less remained so, to this day! WHY A NEW TEEN HERO: In early Marvel, THE HUMAN TORCH (Johnny Storm) was the most popular member of the Fantastic Four and RICK JONES was also popular in THE HULK series, which is why he was used in The Avengers even after Hulk's book was cancelled! Stan would have been remiss NOT to create s Teen super hero who had his own book!. ENDNOTE: REST IN PEACE, MRS.LEE!

I am very much on the side of Ditko's family. Art belongs to the creator not to the companies that distribute their work.
