Actually, MetroMan was (arguably) _an_ antagonist, not _the_ antagonist. An antagonist is simply someone or something that stands in the protagonist's way. I say arguably, because Megamind felt that his only reason for existence was to be both a supervillain and MetroMan's rival. When he allegedly killed MetroMan, he went through an existential crisis (after a temporary victory high), and created Tighten as an attempt to fill that empty void in his life.
