I’d personally rate Cinderace higher for two reasons: Firstly, it’s physical movepool arguably has a better range of coverage. Altgough all 3 seem lack some coverage moves for their higher attack stat. Cinderace and Meowscarada could use more physical moves and Greninja more special. Secondly, Cinderace has an advantage starting as a mono fire type. Since Protein seems to activate from using either a dark move or a water/grass move to make Meowscarada and Greninja a monotype, while Pyro Ball doesn’t proc Libero because Cinderace is already a mono fire type.

You know I was kinda banking on either Infernape and or Quaquaval to make it at least in the 10th spot for they're both fast heavy hitters and that in previous top 10 they're both rank 5th place in each of their Fire & Water starters rankings. But sadly I can't deny they're both over shadow by even stronger starters especially in the S&V DLC, which is a shame cause Infernape is 1 of my favorite starters in general and has recieved a huge buff with a new moves like Raging Fury, as well as Quaquaval for his ability Moxie mixed with his signature move Aqua Step makes it a force to be reckon with.

I had this idea for a trio of starters that’d consist of a Grass/Steel, Fire/Ice, and Water/Ground * Grass/Steel would be a defensive Pokemon * Fire/Ice focused on Offense and Speed * Water/Ground was a balanced type

Fire and ice sounds like a cool concept but a defensive grass/steel starter would need to be absolutely broken in order to not immedietely stand in ferothorn's shadow from day one. As for a balanced water ground, we also had that before with swampert, which is also pretty beloved. So that starter would also already start off by competing for a niche that has long been filled.

I had the same idea once, well for the Grass/Steel Starter anyway. And the archetypes as well for the Fire and Water Types. • Grass/Steel being super bulky and super slow. Attacking stats would be the same but average at best so it could set up or be great support. Over all the stats I came up with were very symmetrical, I think it was: 80 in each attacking stat, 120 in each defense stat, 100 in HP, and 30 in speed. Reason I made it super slow was so that it would be insane in trick room, with either support or straight up setting up and then sweeping. • I don't have much memory of the typings and exact stats I gave to the other Starters, but for Fire I wanted to make it a Fast Special Attacking snake Pokémon because I thought it would be cool if it shot something out from the tail like Rattle Snake Jake from Rango did or like Shin Godzilla. Honestly I might've also thought to give this thing the Steel type because of the whole Rattle Snake Jake thing but if we ignored the whole snake thing I also thought about Fire/Fairy. • As for the Water Starter I also wanted either a "balanced like all things should be" starter OR a somewhat Bulky and Physically offensive Water Starter since we haven't gotten one in a while. Quaquaval is a combination of those two ideas, but I think it falls flat being all physically offensive and then mediocrely balanced with every other stat. I also wanted a Water/Fighting Starter so yea I got what I wanted, but all the ideas came together not in the way I wanted at all (not design wise, stat wise). • I came up with those typing since they kind of make their own triangle of Super Effective damage but not only do both Water and Fire resist Steel, Fire also resists Fairy so a complete reversing Type Triangle just couldn't work properly.

Swampert is a UU Pokémon and also has too many tough competition with other water and ground types to be used in higher tiers. Plus the fact Rillaboom is EVERYWHERE in OU and pretty much severely counter Swampert with little issues.

Swampert by default needs to be the strongest starter, since it has the highest BST out of all of them and is also the only starter with only one weakness.

I will ranking by how pokemon is good both in singles and vgc, without gimmicks like megas and dmaxes: 10. Greninja (previously Uber, now UU, outclassed pick in VGC) 9. Blaziken (same as Greninjain singles, niche pick in VGC) 8. Serperior (OU/UU, niche pick in VGC) 7. Meowscarada (UU, were good at first regulations, but then Flutter Manes and Chien Paos appeared) 6. Empoleon (always UU, niche but good pick in VGC) 5. Primarina (same as Empoleon in VGC, in singles always good in OU/UU) 4. Skeledirge (UU, that's good in Ubers, niche pick in VGC) 3. Venusaur (RU, if sun weather is good in meta it offens sees a lot of usage) 2. Incineroar (yeah it's NU, but it's so meta defining in VGC it have to be second) 1. Rilaboom (always OU and top dog in VGC)

Now I understand, most of these lists are based off of competitive viability for singles, but doubles is also a very important part of competitive play, that being said I think it’s fair to put Incinaroar in first place for this list, because it definitely walls Rilaboom in doubles, and it is probably the biggest threat in doubles. Also, isn’t Venasaur also really good in doubles with access to not only chlorophyll but sleep moves? Idk, I see some potential for some mismatching of this list but I honestly think that this top ten covers the actual top ten of the starters, so it’s it’s a pretty good list nonetheless.
