@@JoeyDCote Agreed! I've always been interested in the characters who could access and manipulate the Darkforce (Cloak, Darkstar, Blackout, Shroud). Honestly, her powers, and dark force in general is extremely powerful and they always de-powered her to keep her from dominating most battles she's in. Being a literal portal to the infinite dark dimension means she'd have a huge advantage over the majority of energy wielding characters (darkforce can absorb energy, light, etc.) On top of teleportation, and dark force constructs, she's got the potential to be an extremely powerful hero. If they can make characters like squirrel girl popular, then i really can't understand why Darkstar has been shelved... Marvel really isn't being creative in character development beyond making more hulks, spidermen, and symbiotes...its almost like they refuse to develop older characters....our loss...

In the same vein as SIMON DARK, DC has hosted a plethora of heroes who are no longer used. These forthcoming examples stem mainly from rights issues (although poor sales likely play a part, too); the characters are at least partially creator-owned and creator-specific. Each was featured in their own eponymous book set in the DC Universe and, as such, interacted with mainstream DC superheroes to varying degrees. Most of them surfaced in the early-to-mid 1990s, probably as a response to the Image Comics business model, with a select few making the scene in the 2000s - as in Simon Dark's case. To whit: A-X, BREACH, CHAIN GANG, ENGINEHEAD, FALLEN ANGEL, GIANTKILLER, GRIFFIN, HAMMERLOCKE, HARDCORE STATION, HECKLER, LAB RATS, LAZARUS FIVE, MAELSTROM, MAJOR BUMMER, MONOLITH, SOVEREIGN SEVEN, TROUBLE MAGNET, and XERO. 😔 Of course, this doesn't account for DC's legion of WildStorm heroes who are missing in action, especially those who were introduced under the Image banner during the early-'90s speculator boom. BACKLASH and UNION immediately spring to mind, but there are so many others currently languishing in oblivion. 😞 Uniquely and rather bizarrely, Bob Harras's superhero, Breach, was existentially folded into DC's Captain Atom - one reason why the former might never appear again! Peter David's Fallen Angel eventually migrated out of the DC Universe when the property moved to IDW - its most recent home. Simon Dark probably won't have a sequel run unless the character's co-owner, Steve Niles, writes the story, or, at minimum, authorizes this anti-hero's supporting role in other books such as the BAT-titles.

Neal Adams had broken off and founded his own company in the mid 80's. As a kid, I loved one of his characters named Armor. This was the 80's, so ninjas were all the rage. Armor was a Ninja whose armor was composed of all kinds of traditional martial art weapons. Basically a walking armory. The plot? He was abducted by aliens to be a slave, was tested, and was found to have the potential to be a ten. Tens were considered to be the deadliest beings in the universe. So they trained him in alien martial arts, equipped him with his armor/weapons, and planed to sell him off as a top of the line body guard/assassin/ whatever. In the meantime he managed to instigate a slave rebellion on the giant ship he was on, and defeat his demonic looking alien master. The character design and art drew me to it, and there was something really fun about a gory ninja vs alien scenario and the martial art/science fiction mash up. It almost had an old fashioned pulp horror feel to it for good measure. For example, one issue focused on something akin to the Shaolin animal styles, except that they were based on alien species instead. The character watched footage of various creatures hunting and killing each other, then he would analyze what they did and create techniques from them. The character kinda lossed a bit when he was finally brought back to earth, as he basically became just a another martial art hero. But those initial issues were magical to the 8 to 10 year old me. Never did get them all. It is a shame that the character faded away with the company.

The cast of Generation X is one I thought would be bigger. I especially liked Skin for having such a big personality. But other readers seem to not like him.

I thought that Skin appeared alongside Synch in the Krakoan Age story arc but fell into the background.

Pretty much all of the most interesting DC characters were discontinued and were concluded with rush miniseries as a result of Flashpoint. Xombi would be my number one nomination.
@TheVeritas12 ай бұрын
Xombi was one of my favorites. The concept of a scientist becoming immortal and then drawn into the supernatural was brilliant.

A lot of older dc heroes i miss, like air wave, gavyn The starman were 2 of my favs and you never see them. Even if theyre killed off, no one stays dead in comics! Also would love to see kirbys machine man come back!

Wow, the only character from this list (other than Mar-vell of course) I remember is Gravity, but I would totally read new stuff for probably all these characters...but don't ever try to brink back Mar-vell!

Talking about Marvel's Slingers, the last I was aware Richochet was part of the Loner's mini-series which also should have gone much longer than it did.

One that comes to mind for me is the Spider. Hailing from the Pulps, he started out as an imitation of The Shadow who quickly developed his own identity. The books were popular, and he even got two movie serials in the Forties. Then, as the pulps went out of fashion, he vanished for a spell. There was comic book revival in the Nineties that's largely forgotten and hard to find. Dynamite Entertainment brought him back along with other Pulp heroes they licensed, and even used a Spider story arc as the basis for the crossover MASKS. Sadly, beyond the crossover's sequel and his very short-lived solo book, the Spider seems to have vanished once again, even as his contemporaries continue to get attention.

The Spider became one of the "Seven Soldiers Of Victory" in new DC continuity to replace the "archer" role filled by Green Arrow, howver it was revealed in James Robinson's original "Shade" miniseries that he was actually a villain masquerading as a hero, and while killed in that story, his decendant came back in the final issues of "Starman", and later appeared in "Hawkman"

It took me a decade after seeing Simon Dark #1 for sale at a flea market to find see name again… I searched multiple times through lists of Gotham related heroes, I’m glad someone else thinks it’s unbelievable that they do nothing with him

Cat-Man...Gail Simone's "Secret Six" was a fantastic, fun read..in large part of the Deadshot/Cat-Man "bromance"...however the comic was more or less canceled, because DC needed a new Suicide Squad comic for the New 52, and the squad needed a Deadshot. The Secret Six comic was resurrected with mostly new-ish characters, but just couldn't re-capture the magic

I would say Air Wave from DC. Not the original one (Larry Jordan) but his son Harold. I think a character like that has a lot of potential for future stories: - you have the baggage of your father's past as a great superhero without having to deal with a possible comeback of the character (so avoiding all those generational mantle swaps that DC tries to pull just to return to the originals cause those are the ones people are interested in) - a cool set of electromagnetic powers that could be explored and defined much better - Harold's mother knows that he took the mantle of his father and you can build up some very interesting interactions between them: you can make her a fully fledged ally (since she let him do that) or make her oppose Harold (since maybe she fears she could lose him just like she lost Larry) - the original Air Wave's rogue's gallery had a clear core of sound based villains (like Dr.Silence or The Talker) which could be expanded to a more general communication gimmick villains, adding new enemies just for Harold and explore what happens to the villains of a certain hero's rogue's gallery when said hero dies There's just so much to explore with this premise but nowadays Air Wave appears only in some cameo every decade or so

I really liked Starman from DC comics . . . I think he had a run in the late 80's . . . He was a down to earth guy who suddenly became a super hero and he was trying to figure things out. He was powerful and had a wide variety of abilities and even masqueraded as Superman once when Superman was de-powered. But, nobody at DC seemed to know what to do with him and I think he eventually sacrificed himself for some reason. What a waste. With a good writer he would've made for a great character.

Anyone remembers when Night trasher and Thunderstrike were HUGE in the 90s and now nobody talks about them anymore? Also shout out to Hummingbird from Scarlet Spider 2012s. One ofthe most interested original superheroes of the last decade that, for some reason, got forgotten.

Night Thrasher and Thunderstrike died. They brought back Night Thrasher eventually but since then there have been staggered New Warriors relaunches for different reasons that would have starred him. But Eric Masterson stayed dead. They did a little with his son taking over the mantle

I gotta say I think power pack fits the bill. Back in the 80s I really enjoyed reading it. There was one point where beta Ray bill was showing up for several issues and they were really epic and quite frankly really nice read. I would love to see powerpack back because it would be cool and it’s a nice read for young kids as well.
