It's funny how much of a fan of P5R my sister and I are, and you just listed all the reasons why my sister LOATHES Maruki. She went on this whole rant about what he was doing and how if people didn't make mistakes or learned from them, they'd become complacent, lazy and if given everything you wanted, then what's the point in working to better yourself etc. I actually really like him as an anti-villain, but seeing her arguments for why she disliked him actually got me thinking about a potential sequel or spin off based around Maruki's power. Wit a world where suffering is non-existent and everyone gets their wish, I started to ponder about what if someone's wish ended up being someone else's personal hell, such as if an abusive spouse or partner wanted total obedience from their lover or what if someone's wish was for the power to do whatever they wanted without laws to hold them back, such as underworld criminals amassing wealth through corrupt means? It's the idea of "what if these wishes overlapped or cancelled other good or decent wishes out due to how raw and powerful they were?" The supposed utopia Maruki wanted would end up causing more harm than good and what if the evil wishes ended up creating more problems than the ones with good intentions, I don't know, that's something that's always bothered me about his philosophy. Sure a world like that SOUNDS nice, but as with some philosophies, it's just human nature for humans to do both good and EVIL things, so perverting that sense of morality and ethics wouldn't have worked out well, unless Maruki was micromanaging everything in perfect detail, just some food for thought. Feel free to roast me in the comments, if this feels dumb XD. Also I agree Mukuro was an underrated and tragic character, it's a shame the anime exists, I chose not to watch any of them because I knew a prequel would mess things up in terms of retconning characters we love and the future anime felt kind of pointless and contrived. I used to dislike Yomiel a lot, but upon reflection, I love Ghost Trick more because of the way he masterminded all of this. The ending felt like a copout, but once a friend put the pieces together for me, it made a lot of sense. Lastly I think Spiderman PS4 was an amazing game and it made Dok Oc even more of an interesting and layered character. I loved the video, and great work as usual!

I’m not going to roast you but I will say this about your sister’s thoughts: she seems very naive and uninformed about the true horrors that suffering, struggle and misery inflict on people. Many simply are not strong enough to handle the cards they’re dealt and no amount of effort can get them through, so they either take their own lives or live in misery for life. Are they just collateral damage? Do they deserve it for being “weak?” Still, others make it through their struggles yet are permanently changed, often for the worse and even when it’s not, very few who’ve experienced post traumatic growth claim that it was worth suffering the trauma in the first place. I’ve suffered and struggled my fair share myself, and I don’t think any of it was worth it. I’m sick of the struggle and hardship of life. I deeply wish I could end all the pain. It seems blatantly obvious that suffering shouldn’t exist in the first place. What makes laziness or complacency so bad that it’s worth suffering for? In my view, suffering is the only real evil, everything else is irrelevant. Self improvement for its own sake is pointless. The only purpose of self improvement is to improve well-being, so in a world where your well-being has been maximised self improvement is unnecessary.

For Otto in the comics, it kinda depends on the writer. Sometimes, he’s a typical mad scientist villain that can still be entertaining if done well and at other times, he’s a noble demon anti villain with many redeeming qualities.

He constantly derails the trials for his own amusements, and always leads them onto fake answers. He finds it fun, even though it could kill everyone. And let's not forget Chapter 4, where he brainwashed Gonta into killing Miu for shits and giggles. He even says he did it for fun after Gonta's Execution. You could say it was a lie, but considering how Kokichi was before this trial I genuinely think he did this for fun. Because while he is immature, he is smart enough to know that if he does tell them Miu's plan. They would rather take the risk of being pranked by Kokichi rather than another murder happening, meaning Kokichi brainwashed Gonta into killing, just for his own amusement

Tales of villains as they are very sympathetic and honestly kinda main characters of thier own side. Van giaus even Arthur are all very well designed bad guys that I find myself rooting for them sometimes. Fire emblem would say grima anakos types of Lyon where the bad guy has some story of breaking down mentally so it's basically like putting a wild animal down. Danganronpa while not major villains a few of the killers you feel very bad for. Not junko she is crazy Kingdom hearts roxas Axel xion as yes they are good guys now they were a large obstacle in thier games but not ones I could bring myself to hate.

(SPOILERS for Nier Replicant) Personal honorable mention goes to the villain of Nier. There are actually a couple versions of Nier; the one released in America was called Gestalt. The one that was *initially* released in Japan was called Replicant. However, Replicant has recently been remade and has come stateside, nicknamed Ver 1.22... The difference between versions is that you play as Yonah's dad in Gestalt, while her brother is the hero of Replicant. Regardless of which version you pick, though, you fight against the Shadowlord at the end of your first run. And he's you. The Shadowlord is the leader of a race of human remnants called Gestalts, or Shades according to the clone race known as Replicants. Sans the prologue, you played as the Shadowlord's Replicant the whole time, and his goal was very similar to your own; save Yonah, and he tried to do it by helping the Shade possess her Replicant self after a thousand years. Apparently, in his mind, the Replicants exist to serve as a replacement body for the Shades. And he might actually be correct; not only is he the Shades' master, but he helped maintain humanity for a thousand years until his destruction, with the eventual extinction of humanity leading up to the events of Automata. But you must remember that his motives were to save a loved one, exactly the same thing you were trying to do. There is a caveat, however. All the Shadowlord cared about was his loved one, while the Replicant went on side quests to help others as well. The Shadowlord's love borders on obsession, as when Shade Yonah let her Replicant live by leaving her body, the Shadowlord snaps, continuing to attack his Replicant so that one of them would be destroyed. That and the Replicant has the possibility of sacrificing himself so that Kaine would live. I must be one of the very few people who does not like Maruki, admittedly more as a person than as a character. As someone who has grown up in a time in which change has happened at an exceptionally fast pace, I've come to expect and accept change even if I don't like it. That which was painful may not have been pleasant, but I learned and grew because of it. The idea of a perfect world where everyone gets what they want with little effort or sacrifice to me has very unsettling connotations. There's also the matter of his "consultations." There is a psychologist on KZbin that's done quite a few videos on the guy that make it clear while he is good researcher, he's not a good therapist. Honestly, some of what he was advocating before he got his powers were striking me as incredibly unethical for his line of work and completely opposite of what he was supposed to be doing.

Personally, I actually Maruki was RIGHT the whole time. I’ve been through a lot of hardship and have suffered a lot over the years and while I have grown a lot from the experience, I don’t for one second think it was worth suffering for in the first place. Simply put, I find the idea of a life without any pain whatsoever INCREDIBLY appealing. There’s another video on youtube where the video’s host compares Maruki’s plan to Nozick’s Experience Machine thought experiment. While Nozick actually conceived of it as an argument against hedonism, I actually imagined a very similar idea when I was very young, struggling in school as an ultimate fantasy. A way to escape the pain. In the final battle, Morgana admits that there probably were some who would benefit from Maruki’s reality. I am 110% one of those people.

I agree with the sentiment that Maruki isn't the purely good and righteous person that most see him as. I think Maruki, while having right intentions, is still a morally wrong person. Ignoring the fact that he wants to just strip free will away (Among personal disagreements with him), he's incredibly manipulative. Almost every time he talks with Joker, he sings random praises on him and breaks the rules of his own job so he can manipulate and bring Joker into his little experiment, which is VERY illegal to do. And then his entire game plan is to basically manipulate the ENTIRE world, egotistically believing himself to be the only person with the right answer and to have the power to control everyone's lives as his bias sees fit. He's hardly better than Yaldabaoth in the end, he just has an excuse for what he's doing.

i think dark choco cookie from cookie run kingdom needed an honorable mention in this video he started out as a fighter for the cookies of darkness and servant of dark enchantress cookie later on in the game we find out that he is dark cacao cookie,s son and prince of his father,s kingdom but he wanted to be a hero later on when he got hold of the strawberry jam sword he was controlled by it into attacking his kingdom and was banished from the kingdom by his father later on in the game he along with licorice cookie pomegranate cookie and poison mushroom cookie attack his former kingdom but after getting defeated by his father dark cacao cookie apologizes to him for no getting him love only for pomegranate cookie cast a spell on him and giving dark choco cookie a chance to deafeat him but he decides to reedem himself and attack pomegranate cookie with the sword before casting aside it

I think his character is best described by his first dungeon theme. But by comparison to the other (noun)s, his (adjective)ness makes him a truly compelling final antagonist. A better philosophical antithesis to the Thieves than (vanilla final boss) could hope to be

Audrey Redheart honestly seemed like a villian that would reform at the end. Yet, surprisingly, she doesn't. I guess she was just too far gone. Too consumed by despair and pride to be reformed. That's really sad when you think about it.
