Censorship, does have impact, kids don’t smoke as much, children swear far less and are actually better mannered in this generation. However, I feel like they are more sheltered because they have less exposure to different personalities and situations overall, we learned stranger danger much earlier because we actually walked to and from school. People in this generation are more likely to get taken advantage of because street smarts is a real thing and when parents cart them everywhere kids simply don’t get it. I had someone ask me why would anyone want to hurt me after me telling them about a crazy time when I was alone and approached by a stranger. My good thinking got me out of a bad situation, that could have turned deadly. I couldn’t help but wonder if this person had been put in the same situation, would she have survived? I guess there are trade offs by having censorship, but are we setting up the next generation for failure to recognize dangerous situations and how to ultimately make good quick decisions when it matters the most. Earlier generations used fairy tales and for the most part they worked because they were scary and it allowed children to think about what they could do in similar circumstances.

When I was a kid, pretty much every movie was censored when it aired on TV, and there was nothing we could do because VHS didn't exist yet. It's sad to see the whole "edited-for-television" mindset returning.
@sonicpsycho133 жыл бұрын
Editing for television also included cutting out scenes to fit within a specified timeslot and to allow for commercials. And don't be confused by the "This film has been modified to fit your TV." that was just because most movies were filmed in some form of "widescreen" (9:16, etc) and most TV's until the last 10 years were 3:4.
@Roadent12413 жыл бұрын

@@Roadent1241oh lord, now I have to explain CRT TV's. I feel old. TV's used to be these thick boxes with a big glass tube as the screen, called a cathode ray tube (CRT). All of them had a standard aspect ratio of 3:4. Nearly every theatrical movie has been filmed to fit a wide, theatrical screen, but in order to get the movie to fill a standard TV at that time, it would need to be edited to fit on a 3:4 TV screen, otherwise the picture on the TV would have thick, black bars across the top and bottom of the screen. They would normally chop out whatever was on the far left and right of the image. Movies that were modified to fit a 3:4 aspect ratio would always have the message, "The following film has been modified from its original version. It has been formatted to fit this screen." This message hasn't been around since the widespread adoption of widescreen aspect ratio TV's and widescreen format has become the norm.

@@sonicpsycho13 I think I have a CRT TV still, I still have a 20-year-old 12-inch TV with a video player built in and no HDMI because it didn't exist back then XD It replaced the previous SMALLER one I had that just died one day, no idea how long my parents had had that but it was my first TV. I also feel old at nearly 30 with all these screens that actually fit whatever the heck I'm watching, I didn't know various films had the edges cut off them WHERE STUFF WAS HAPPENING until I saw a DVD version where obviously a computer screen fits things. I dunno why I've only ever seen that message on plane films though. That explains the Aspect thing though, I never used it because I never knew what it was. Too bad new TVs and stuff makes things like The Insanity Effect of Eternal Darkness obvious since they're made for these 'analogue' TVs with their channel and volume changing, shame because I can't emulate it properly and have the same effect.

Censorship is like anything else, should be used in moderation. Art is supposed to be controversial, because it sparks action. Disney + think Lilo hiding in a dryer is too dangerous, so the change it to make her hide in what looks like an oven instead. Makes total sense.
@Lauren_2103 жыл бұрын
Also, what kid would try to hide using a pizza box? They smell after the food has been inside there and it's just garbage on the bottom shelf of something, which doesn't make sense. Plus, it also makes it confusing because there's a washer there yet no dryer machine for the clothes? Yeah.....such a stupid change 🙄

Maybe Caddicarus should copy his self-edited copy and sell it, since Disney won't... Of all things, a sad but very pretty song?? We still have the sad feels afterwards just skipping it so what's the point??? Ugh. If I wouldn't be chucked in jail I'd find a way past the DRM to copy my tape. MY TAPE. My fricken tape that's nearly as old as I am! When that's gone that's it unless I have a copy of Caddy's disk.

I mean... I'm not pro-censorship at all... But that song is the only thing about that movie that I dislike... And that's a relatively popular opinion amongst people I've spoken to. I think it was removed because people hate it, not because it's in any way offensive. If you enjoy it, that's okay too... But I'd happily watch a version without it.

It’s not bad to be honest. Most of favorite episodes (Seasons 2-11) are intact with the original jokes and animations. To quote the BBFC website: “Distributor chose to remove sight of dangerous activity which might be copied by young children (child character emerging from a hiding place inside a washing machine or tumble drier) in order to achieve a U. A 12 uncut was available to the distributor.”

They should not Edit old movies Because not only are they destroying history They are taking out beloved scenes If Disney plus could not handle One scene it should not take the whole movie Because there will be another streaming service that will be willing to take the uncut version Because The more they change the more they are destroying history And that should not be allowed Because it was OK back then For the movie to have what it had Just because the time changes Doesn't mean history should change along with it We don't go changing history Just because something is not appropriate To do now So why should we do the same to movies The viewer should know What they are getting into And should Use discretion When Deciding to watch it Movies shouldn't get preserved not edited Because it is not their decision If a movie is appropriate Is it is the Original film makers So leave movies alone
