I used to spend over $150 a month on my hair pre-pandemic because I have short hair. Spent a lot of time watching my hairdresser cut and style my hair over the years. Well…..I started cutting my hair during the pandemic and buying my hair dye at the dollar tree (which is amazing!). I’ve been spending $1.50 a month for almost 4 years!!!! My hair looks exactly like it did when a professional was doing it. Have saved a ton of $$$$$.

I'm with you! I've been dying my own hair for years on the cheap. When I started getting gray around the edges, my home treatment didn't really cover it properly. I thought "It's okay because I'm saving so much money." But then, I had a special occasion come up and decided to go get my hair dyed professionally. BAD mistake! Not only was my gray hair not covered, but it turned out a copper color while the rest of my hair was brown! It looked awful and cost over $150! I could have done this myself and saved $120. Never Again!😞

It seems every store I go to wants you to "round up" for something. I went into Goodwill the other day and they asked if I wanted to round up. I asked what I'd be rounding up for. They said for their mission. Aren't all your payments for their mission? I did not round up. Another one that gets me is when you go somewhere, order at the counter, wait for your food or drink and they have a tip option on your ticket or tip jar. No! I'm not going to tip you. I did not get any extra service. There are getting to be fewer and fewer places I shop. I guess that means I have more money in my pocket.

I was so saddened one day when i was at Walmart and a little girl asked her mom if they could buy a package of chicken legs. Her mother told her no, we can't afford that anymore. Imagine, chicken legs, perhaps the cheapest package of chicken you can buy no longer affordable for a young family. Then, shrinkflation is in full effect. I picked up a 1/2 gallon of milk put it in the fridge next to my already opened one and I noticed a change in the size. I looked at the carton. The one I bought a week ago was 64 oz. Not disagreeing, but just a note - EVERYTHING is more expensive, so the electricity and utilities the thrift shop has to pay is more expensive, the insurance for the building & property, workers comp insurance, fuel & insurance for whatever trucks or vehicles they use, sign permits, nearly everything, has gone up for them also. I'm not sure how they pay their staff, but they may be paying more in minimum wages, too. It all adds up, so they recoup the costs through their sales.

I love the white columns that lead to the living room! I know that you want to get rid of them, but they add so much character to your home! Just think about how much money you could save if you left them as is! I also love your wood paneled ceiling! It really "warms up the house". I grew up in the 60's and 70's. Women learned how to file their own nails and they "set their hair" at home. The only women who went to the beauty parlor were little old ladies with purple hair. Then the 70's came and we discovered the blow dryer. That was a game changer. And then we learned how to use curling irons in the late 70's. I don't understand all of these young women getting all of these things done. A lot of what they do looks cheap and trashy. Sorry, if I offended any of you ladies, out there. My parents also made their own coffee. Everyone did. All of these restaurants and drive through coffee shops didn't even exist.

I will never shop on Amazon...it is corporate rip off and is destroying the shopping high street here in the UK. I can no longer afford to heat my home all the time (in winter). I cannot afford to buy new clothes. I cannot afford tools, meat, eating out in restaurants, I cannot afford to go to the cinema and haven't done for years. I dont have any subscriptions to anything. I could go on. I live an extremely frugal life not by choice but by necessity. Incidently...I never go to see bands or concerts cos I cannot afford and any way I am short (5' nothing) so I can never see anything anyway!

I am in England and what you call thrift shops we call charity shops. Ours too are getting far too expensive. I've always said that if you make them cheaper they would make more money in the long run as more people would buy things. Sometimes they turn people down with their donated items because they don't have room to store them. It's so stupid.

This channel has given me numerous ideas for saving and helps motivate me to look for more savings everywhere. I am 73 y.o. swf. What I did in March 2024: Sold my 2nd car to save on insurance, registration, maintenance, smog check every 2 years. Cancelled cable; internet only now. Library charges 50 cent for used DVDs. Cancelled P.O. Box ($216 per year for a small box). We have a lot of mail theft in semi rural area. Now I have mail sent to my sister's house (her mailbox is in her door-- so mail goes in the house). Switching back to Mr. Coffee drip coffee at 5 to 7 cents a cup instead of Keurig at 30-70 cents cup. Fast Food only if I have a gift card or coupon. Switched savings account to a 10 month CD paying 5.05% at my Mom's Bank. Starting to recycle cans and bottles!

My daughter had her 17 birthday last month and the one thing she wanted was to get her nails done. She had never had them done professionally before and I haven't had mine done in like a couple decades, lol. So I took her and it ended up costing more than what I was expecting because she got all this fancy stuff done, which it was her birthday so I was like whatever, it's fine. But all I could think was, how the hell do people afford to do this on the regular? How? Why? I'll never understand it. And then after only two weeks my daughter comes up and asks if I can take her to have the nails removed. I was like, "Are you kidding me? You better keep those things on till they fall off!" 😂

I called a bunch of salons in my neighborhood, for a price quote on a haircut (got tired of long hair and wanted a pixie cut), and they all quoted me $150, for just a simple pixie cut. So, I called a barbershop, thinking they would be cheaper, and they also quoted me $150, but was willing to add a wash and blow-dry for that price, which was an extra cost at the salons. So I bought myself a Flowbee for $150. One haircut and it has paid for itself. Every haircut, from this point on, is now free.

@@ObakuZenCenter it's not a bad way to live. It promotes awareness and savings. I did that way of living for most of.y adult life. Am now financially stable and I'm not only a millionaire many times over but secure in the fact I now have net worth. Living over means that is sad statement.

We still have an awesome drive-in in our community, and that is my one exception to taking my kids out to the movies, because it is a much more engaging experience-and a piece of history that not many get to enjoy. We only do it once a year, maybe twice, but it is actually more affordable than going to an actual movie theater- plus they always show a double feature for the price of one. We do let the kids have one snack and one drink, but their prices are about half of the local theater prices. They also let you come in early and the kids can run around and throw frisbees and blow bubbles and play games because there is tons of open space. They do cool community events. They are doing a huge camp out event for the eclipse this weekend, because we are on the path of totality. Their events are always very affordable. Its a very important part of our community. When we do go, we make it a multi-family outing with the aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents, so we get our money’s worth by spending time together outside and enjoying a double feature movie as well!

Amen on the tip culture. I’m sick to death of it! I’ve stopped going anywhere that expects a tip for handing me something.

A loaf of bread. Started baking my own bread and making my own pizza dough. It took me a few times to perfect it and I am glad I did. I started spending my time on YT learning how to copycat foods I like when eating out and now my food tastes better and is healthier. You will surprise yourself what you can do in the kitchen, and when you do try to treat yourself and eat out, you will not like it because your food is way better. Paper towels. Snacks. Dairy. Cat food. All ridiculously priced. Aldi's cereal tastes better than name brands. I started diluting canned milk and using it for coffee creamer instead of paying five bucks for half and half.

Almond flour might not have the needed dough factor for making pizza, I don't know. I do use a non-GMO bread flour by King Arthur which is perfect for pizza dough and sandwich bread.@@bwhiteman1
