We moved to Lakeland from Orlando. I live in the Southwest area and everything is just within walking distance from hospitals to grocery stores and we don’t pay any HOA. It’s quiet and peaceful too.

That's great! No HOA is pretty awesome, right? Yep, that area of Lakeland is nice and quiet but still close to everything you need. Thanks for sharing :)
@TheSmartTrapper3 жыл бұрын
It’s awesome indeed if you don’t pay any HOA. Our neighbors are mostly retired professionals so they’re always busy cleaning their lawns or backyard :) One of the many things I love living here is the proximity to everything. I don’t have to drive when I go shopping or when I go to the hospital for check ups or lab work. We live in the city center and yet it’s very peaceful, clean and quiet.

There are very few areas I would actually live in, but this is a good list of the positive things about my home town. The charter schools are much better than the regular public schools. There is still a lot of oppressed thinking throughout the town. It’s also over an hour to any beach. There is great fishing and boating in the channel lakes. You can take flying lessons at Lakeland Linder Airport, and it just became a hub for Amazon shipping. So, there are a lot of new jobs in warehousing, which is abundant in the city. There are also extremely high end homes and many millionaires from the Jenkins family that founded Publix Supermarkets, to the Badcocks who started a chain of mid prices furniture stores. Lakeland is the birthplace of Red Lobster, so you can thank it for your cheddar bay biscuits. Bar B Ranch has great hiking trails with lots of wildlife (Gators). Polk State is a good junior college that wasn’t mentioned. And the Lakeland Regional Medical Center and Watson Clinic are starting to make an impact in central Florida healthcare.

This video should have been titled "this is how Lakeland is if you have money". Now how about you show the real Lakeland Florida like the houses on Kathleen, or the Lake Gibson area and not the mansions that nobody can afford without putting themselves into debt.

Reason number 2 , a thriving downtown district ? Are you kidding ? Its definitely NOT thriving !! 80% to 90% of the year , it's very hot and humid to be outside for long periods of time!! Shopping ?? If you like consignment shops !! The schools here are getting better but when only 50% or less of the students graduate , somethings wrong here ! There are NOT multiple reasonable places to live in and around this city , a lot of people still live in run down mobile homes and when the rainy season and hurricane season starts here , Every june 1st , those mobile homes and the many shabby built homes here by dishonest builders get destroyed by the daily afternoon thunderstorms , and lastly .... the lakeland police department is corrupt to its core ..... if your looking for justice , it's best to go with Grady Judd and the sheriff department and by pass Lakeland police all together , they definitely do NOT have Lakeland citizens best interests in mind !!

I grew up in Lakeland. Once, it was a beautiful place. Not so much anymore as development has choked out most of what used to be ag and swamp land. I moved to rural North Texas and love it here... Cooler, drier, a more respectful culture. No alligators trying to eat my dogs... Did she just say "culture"? Lmao. Culture in Polk County FL is fueled by alligators, methamphetamine, petty crime and Sheriff Grady Judd. You wanna see Lakeland? Take a walk with the homeless prostitutes on N. Combee Rd. That said, it was the climate made me move on. Too hot, miserable and wet - it's a swamp filled with people and concrete. Use your imagination. A lot of people love it, but not me. Probably cause I have memories of what it was like before overdevelopment... Lakeland now has around a hundred and ten thousand people; it had around thirty thousand when I was born. It was all orange grove and swamp then... It's not even recognizable as Lakeland anymore as it and the surrounding cities have grown into each other with none of the planning found in more populous areas. I'd remind anyone reading this that it was people like you - looking for a better place to live - that brought ruin to this little piece of my history. Just as I've dragged my baggage into numerous towns across the US, changing the demographic there, others brought their baggage to Lakeland. Lakeland has too much luggage in the closet already....
