There have been several stories about who invented potato chips. One is that an American chef called George Crum got annoyed when a customer kept sending their sliced potatoes back, saying that they were too thick, so he sliced them paper thin, fried and salted them and sent them back out, expecting another complaint. However, the customer loved them, and that was the beginning of potato chips. By the way, it wasn't originally called Halloween; it was, and still is among Pagans, called Samhain. (pronounced Sow-en) 🙂

Some people think that it is called Irish because it was a Wolfhound bread by Irish Americans during the land rush and breeders to tell one breed from another called it the Irish Wolfhound. I never heard that one myself but read it several times until I saw a urban myth site debunk it.

Scots Gaelic is really a dialect of Irish.The Scottii tribe from Dal Riada,a kingdom in the North of Ireland, kept raiding the West coast of what is now Scotland, eventually settled and gave their name to the country-Scottii-Scotland!

Dont believe it......Scottish Gaelic went into decline centuries ago.....Irish Gaelic was widely spoken in Ireland right up to the 19th century, which means Irish Gaelic had far more time to influence the english language than Scottish gaelic.

Yeah the Irish Parliament and the US White House are similar but that's because they were both part of the Classical movement where mostly government buildings were made to resemble ancient Greek temples. The reason why that was huge in the US then was because they were trying to be more democratic, like the ancient Greek, and less monarchical or theocratic. (Yet, strangely, they've become more religious than their forefathers would've ever approved)

@talideon
@talideon 2 ай бұрын
There are way more companies that make crisps on the island than that, even if a lot of the older ones are now owned by Largo Foods. That aside, Northern Irish Tayto licenced the name and imagery from the original Tayto, leading to decades of confusion. I really can't comprehend why Tayto didn't try expanding into foreign markets when they had the advantage of inventing the process for ready-flavouring crisps.
