True Colors was how I discovered that some people are still racist. It reminds me of when Chelsea went, "I cant believe some are still so prejudiced" Eddie said theyre out there, mentioning he had a White friend whose dad told him to stop playing with Eddie bcuz he's Black. Eddie said he didnt think of him as White or different; he was just his friend. That really resonates as I'm Black & most of my best friends come from different backgrounds. I love how we embrace each others' cultures/races

See, THIS is how a kid's show can still be funny and get serious when it needs to be and not make it feel awkward. I applaud newer Disney shows like Andi Mack for tackling more serious matters, but it seems that ever since like 2013 or so every kid or teen show that deals with serious issues makes it very melodramatic and they aren't balanced out by tons of humorous moments in episodes that aren't serious episodes

It wasn't actually Raven who added fur in her design, it was her boss who did it. Raven had to make the choice between accepting this change for a chance to get her design used by Donna Caboona or declining to stand up by her friends' values. I think it makes it much more interesting and a real representation of the pressure between doing these type of choices. :)

Do you sacrifice what you know is the right thing to do to make it farther in your career or being a moral hypocrite . Raven has always expressed in the show that she supports Chelsea’s beliefs but when it comes to the thick of the matter, her actions are what counts. There's a very important one that is missing. That's So Raven tackled the issue of change when Devon's father remarries and the entire family moved. That episode for me was pretty important because it taught us that change is inevitable and that there are some things we just can't control.

the episode "saving psychic Raven" in my opinion took on labels and respect. To recap Raven meets other psychic kids and hangs out with them more instead of Chelsea and Eddie and learns that neither wants to be friends because they think they're too different. (the psychic kids calling regular people "Normys" and think they're better than them and Chelsea Eddie calling the psychic "freaks".) Raven calls both out on their behavior and saying that should be defined or labeled on their abilities or disabilities The lesson : This is a lesson we all tend to forget we all think we're so different that we can't co - exist with each other, but I'm here to say that is far from the truth. While we should be proud of our differences we should also see we can have more in common with others than we might believe, and we shouldn't let labels be who we are or keep us from who we want to be.

That's So Raven is among many examples that kids shows can be just as funny, clever, exciting and groundbreaking as adult shows. I'm in my 20s and the only current live action kids shows I've seen are Raven's Home, Sydney to the Max, Secrets of Sulphur Springs, The Astronauts, Drama Club and Side Hustle. So I don't know if the other current live action kids shows are following this approach of NOT talking down to its audience like the current ANIMATED kids shows.

I'd recommend Andi Mack - you had a gay main character with a coming out storyline, the titular character resulting from a teen pregnancy, a diverse cast and throughout the series you also had a character who was deaf, a character with a learning disability, a lot of episodes that dealt with Chinese heritage, etc.

That’s so Raven was such an amazing and grounded family show that deserves its flowers! It highlighted a black family in a beautiful way and a well rounded cast with great comedic timing and smart writing. Raven Symone brought so many layers to Raven Braxter that made such a memorable show for Disney! It was my time favorite Disney Channel original show and it tackled social issues unlike any other.

The hypocrisy in the number one spot is outstanding. Raven herself said in an interview that she faced racism all the time while shooting the show. She even said that the person doing the lights went up to her and told her to stop tanning even though it was the beauty standard because he had to relight a scene to make sure she always appeared light-skinned.

some other lessons are: -divorce (eddies parents) -family feuds that can be resolved through communication (country cousins) - how to maintain a healthy relationship (raven figuring out how to prioritize what’s most important and learn to trust Devon, Eddie and Chantel’s relationship) -leading by example for younger children by being a role model and providing support (Sierra, Stanley, and Sydney) -going after your dreams (Ravens internship, and that one episode when the whole family was pitching their ideas to a millionaire entrepreneur) -never giving up on dreams, despite their age (ravens parents: Tanya who entered law school and Victor on his cooking career) -who genuine friends are (when Eddie is used for his temporary psychic abilities but disregarded when he didn’t have them anymore) -cheating (Eddie asking Raven to help him cheat for the Spanish test) -learning how to work together as a group (various: when Eddie, Raven, and Chelsea worked at the schools store and a whole bunch of other instances) -not living in lies ( raven pretending to be an A Class gymnast,) - Accountability (VARIOUS in which they admit they’ve done something wrong: Raven and Eddie pretending to be dog groomers to get a paycheck but risked Chelsea’s hard earned job and when Cory admitted he tricked Raven into breaking a lamp to make money from a party, which almost lead to Raven not getting a recommendation letter) -learning to let go (when Raven had to say goodbye to Devon) - finding community that reflect your interests and lifestyle to achieve fulfillment and happiness (Eddie with his radio show, Chelsea with her various environmental club, and Raven finding relevancy in her Aunt Viv (who is also psychic) and finding connectivity with the group of talented psychics. - maintaining responsibility and truth to your promises: (VARIOUS; Raven making William clothes in transaction to him helping her with a science experiment) That’s all I could think of the moment.

I think one serious issue they forgot to mention is about someone that Eddie knew got into gambling. It’s from the episode ‘he’s got the power’ during the second season when a comet makes Eddie psychic and he can have these visions to see in the future of his classmates and someone that went to his school makes him pick out a winner for a gambling bet and then Eddie loses his power and gets into trouble.

i wish they'd make more kids shows like this, i remember being impressed even as a kid that they tackled issues like these. the body positivity one was always my favorite too, it really resonated with me because ive struggled with weight my whole life and i always got bullied for being the fat kid. i remember that episode helped me so much as a kid 😭 her screaming always annoyed my mom but im so glad she still let me watch it as a kid

Wow I forgot about that first episode. Man I miss when Disney had Black characters that showcased their culture. But I'm super glad to hear they're including LGBT characters! That would have been great to see growing up I felt I had to hide a part of myself.

God this show was amazing! My favorite episode was the fashion show one where they acknowledged everyone has different body types and most people don’t look like models, even models and the episode where Raven didn’t get hired because she was black. I loved the part where Eddie told his story of when his friends dad said he couldn’t play with black kids. That really stuck with me. I wish kids shows and all shows still explored series issues like this show did. I knew the smoking episode would be on the list! “You…I will call you back when shoulder pads come back in…which will be NEVER!!!!” 😂😂 8:39 holy crap! I never realized that bully was Chase’s roommate from Zoey 101 and Kyle Massey’s brother in real life! I only knew the main bully was Cody Linely.

This show is by far one of the best childhood shows of my generation. I was a die hard fan. I'm such a die hard fan that I noticed Raven Baxter's flaws. The only thing I didn't like about Raven was her letting bully's run over her. I understand it's a kid show so you tell kids to be the bigger person but I wish the writers talked about standing up for yourself too. It made Raven look scary at times. Like she used to let Alana chase her in the hallways and all of that. I understand it's comedy but come on now. Or when the white girl from zenon from season 1 humiliated her in front of everyone. I just couldn't stand it...

"Smart Guy" had an episode about racism in retail, too. To expose the female sales rep's behavior, they contacted the head of the company, who was black, and arranged for him to walk around the store as a customer. Not knowing who he was, the rep blatantly follows him around. It's been roughly twenty years, and I still remember vividly the moment, when she realized that she'd been busted. (9/16/2021)

While I do respect it for that reason, I don’t feel it was enough to make the show brilliant. I just find it kind of childish and grating at times. But like I said, I do respect it for trying to tackle controversial topics. The body-image episode was brilliant, and while the racism one wasn’t my favorite, I at least respect it for what it was trying to do.
