I am new to FS19. I bought the game because I was a HUGE Harvest Moon addict back in the days. I love seeing all those glorious fruits/vegetables grow as days went by, plucking them and selling them. But dang, when I first started FS19 I was so overwhelmed by how much more realistic the farming mechanics are. The tutorial at the beginning of the New Farmer mode was superficial to say the least. They looked like they are made for veterans of the game rather than newbies

Ah man harvest moon, back to nature, spent months on that game it was so much fun, albeit Grindy after a while, Stardew valleys sprinklers were a welcome function, I agree fs sim is like taking a job you lied on the resume with lmao, spent hours trying to work out what machines go with what, at least 12 hours I've spent trying to fucking reverse a trailer to attach something else on the back haha, rewarding though, a sprinkle of qol mods and it's great

I got this game for my son who is 3. He loves farm and construction videos on KZbin so I figured if he can drive a tractor around it's better than just watching videos. My plan was to just get him a tractor, but that was already available first thing so I started looking into how to actually play and before I knew it, it was 1 AM.... Thanks for the tutorials.

Advanced hints: Look after your money. Leasing things with engines can get pricey very quickly - leasing equipment not so much, something like a plow is only used after you have harvested certain crops (or when you buy a field), so they're quite cheap to lease and just leave sitting around. But if you're not growing those "certain crops" then lease and return when you buy a new field is certainly acceptable. Workers cost money - when you start out you might be running a tight budget, do as much of the work for yourself as you can (even sell all but 1 starting tractor, just so you're not tempted). I usually wait until the first harvest before I start hiring workers, because when the harvest is coming in the farm is making money! Avoid loans for equipment - taking out a loan to buy a bigger tractor and bigger equipment is generally a bad idea, the equipment will lose value almost immediately, so if you get in trouble you'll never get that investment back, stick with the smaller equipment you started with. Yes it takes longer, but what else do you have to do in the mean time?? However, sometimes it is ok to buy equipment as you need it, and the closer you are to harvest, the closer you are to making money to pay down that loan - so borrow money for a corn header, then use the corn proceeds to pay back the loan! Loans for land might be ok - Land does not lose value, so if you find yourself cash strapped, you can sell the land you just bought for the same amount as you paid for it, and eliminate that part of the loan. When you start going for the more advanced starts - farm manager and start from scratch - buy what you need as you need it, and spend as little as possible to get the job you need done. Small is not bad, it just means each task you're doing will take longer - it's a fine balance between field size, equipment size and tractor capability to make a start. You can worry about more/bigger later when the farm is making money - but until that first harvest is in and sold, you don't know your profit and cannot gage what new stuff/land you can afford to add. If you did it right your starting equipment will last you a long time, but eventually you'll get more land (more land = more income!) and you'll start to feel that your equipment now takes too long to do stuff - that is the time to start upgrading. And a throwaway tip: Make sure your biggest 2 tractors can work all of your equipment - the last thing you need is having only 1 tractor that can do the mowing, cultivating and planting, because then jobs will be queuing for when it frees up. Note that doesn't mean the tractors have to be the same size, just that the equipment you have needs to be compatible - and they won't be the same size when you start upgrading.

I suggest buying a seeder that lets you seed directly without cultivating. Saves you a step. Also, buy one that fertilizes while you are seeding. With the precision farming update, usually you don't have to fertilize again after you seed, you just have to lime.

Although I have been watching a KZbin channel where this guy playing the game doing some challenge games right from nothing, I enjoy that because he dose give you tips when your started with nothing just the clothing on your back to looking for work making money owning some equipment buying land to buying a farm. keep up the good work maybe you can make videos in that kind of line to show how to start with nothing or small and to grow in to a good running farm

Definitely do contracts! I am fairly new (less than 40 hours) and I do contracts. I drive the equipment to the field and hire a worker to complete the job while I work the home farm. I only do $7k and up contracts, and have many running at once. I can make $100,000 to $250,000 in 1 game day just in contracts.

I’m fairly new to farm sim, lost about a week into this game. I started out of the gate watching some coop series plays on KZbin and growing up on a farm figured this game was worth the $29 quickly started stacking in hours. I started as farm manager, but with small equipment, very basic stuff and a few small fields and keep them producing, I got two small tractors and small implements and whatever I’m not using I throw out on bigger paying contracts with a helper in it while I’m cutting and selling all my perimeter grass as silage. So far I’ve had lots of success with it. But the game has very little in the way of help in it. Fortunately KZbin exists.

Two things I’ve noticed from my short time playing, one which sort of contradicts your #10. 1. When doing contracts that involve harvesting, harvest and sell EVERYTHING before you mark it as finished- especially if you are borrowing equipment. Oftentimes you will find that you still have some extra harvest on the field/in your truck once the contract is marked as complete. If you sell the leftovers, you will get money as if you were selling your own harvest, but as soon as you mark the contract as complete, you will lose access to the field and any borrowed equipment, including whatever was inside them. 2. You can do mowing contracts to see how to complete them. This way you will get everything you need to actually fulfill the contract. But make sure you do it in the proper order. I remember the time I baled the grass before I dried it and then had to cancel the contract.

To start with different mods, go filter to the GIANTS ones, just to see how to deal with the mod system. Frequently they just give another thing that is like all the others, however. E.g. "another 3m cultivator" or "another medium tractor that gets 120-180HP and goes 31mph", but for many other mods (non-GIANTS) they bring things that are really so much cheaper than the base version but do the same thing, you're left with a no-brainer which can make your games all seem the same. If you keep using the trailer that is 1/3 the price of the Krone but just as big, the harvester that is 1/2 the price and enough power for a 9m header, etc, then you lose the reason to use anything else: you "lose" so much because a mod just is "too cheap to not use". So most mods you should start with should be of machines you like the look of or ones you know or have seen and want to play with. And GIANTS do a decent job of adding more of those to the mix in their mods.

On console: prioritise helper friendly fields over anything. Do headlands yourself for some turning space. Also: Don't be afraid to lease and keep the stuff until you can afford them. The one off costs are too high to give it back after one job. Most importantly: Brace your expectations. Even on easy economy it will take many many hours to get the farm going.

1 thing i would recommend after u got the basic mechanics down, u know how to grow crops and what the deffrent machinerys are used for and u wanna take that next step. Once u know all this u will quickly find that money can be a roadblock as u likly dosent own any medium/big fields yet, Even if u do your equipment is likly far to small for them. so each harvest dosent get u that big income boost just yet. Now would be the time to place down a horse paddock and fill it up with horses. Horses require oats for food and is 1 of the easy early game crops so that shouldent be a problem at this time. They also need straw for bedding and straw can very easy be optained by leaving a straw swath from your Wheat, Barley and oats harvest. They also need water and any water tank trailer will do the job and can be refilled from a placable watertank or from any body of water on the map. If u sold all of it then straw and horse feed can be bought at the shop aswell. If u have started to use mods this is the time i would recommend (Horse Helper mod) this mod will make sure all your horses are ridden and cleaned each day to increase there value. If u dont wanna use mods yet then u need to ride each horse yourself untill its daily riding time is at 100% roughly 5-8 min/horse and brush it clean after. Now why would we do all of this, When u buy a horse its price is 5000 and with miltiple horses the cost will stack up but if u ride them all once per day to 100% fitness each horse will then sell for 50,000. It takes roughly 8-10 in-game days for them to reach 100% if u ride them each day or if u let horse helper mod do it for u. This is without a doubt the best money making method in the game. Especially if u start out with small fields and wanna take that next step into buying more fields and bigger equipments. A small horse paddock cost 50,000 and can hold 8 horses. with 8 trained horses u can sell them for a cash boost of 400,000 every 8-10 in-game days. That income is unmatched in the early/mid game and gives u the ability to afford that new tractor/equipment u wanna buy.

That is a great point about horses, they are a relatively low cost way to make good money

If you buy a truck you can hook the green trailer to it and move your product much faster also you can chop down trees load the wood in the trailer as well 1,000 chainsaw one tree about 4,000 dollars that's what I do to earn money when i am waiting for my crops to grow and of course contracts but i don't hire workers i do the work myself and i bought the cultivator that seeds at the same time takes way less time to work my fields

just started it with 2 friends. We started with money and nothing else. To be honest it is the best way. We learned ourself what to look out what to do with everything and we worked hard to make it work. If we wanna sweat we would still do it but restarted with the same 1.250.000 eur and gonna do it on our found knowledge

One of the lesson I learn my self is never buy a massive land on start-up cause it will took ages to get it done with small stuff available. Also don’t loan too big or your income will never pass your loan interest.

You dont need to buy anymore than just the game itself but I recommend buying it all as a package for the added equipment

I think mods are a good way to start out. You can find a lot of old, low cost equipment that way. Sure, it will be slow and underpowered, but I feel its good starting equipment. There are really no good old/cheap tractors in the basegame. I think the cheapest tractor is 60-70k.

That is a very valid point, you can get some cheap options

The main problem i think ppl are getting into with these low power tractors is that u have no room to expand what so ever. They are fine for learning the very basic but that stuff gets learned very fast for the most part and then u are stuck with the 3m equipment for a very long time. For most of the equipment if u wanna expand above 3m it is almost mandatory to have a tractor with a minimum of 200-250hp. There are certanly option betwinn but they tend to be very restrictive. The perfect tractor for beginners imo are the medium tractor Valtra T Series with a base of 210hp that can be increased to 250hp. It lands in this sweat spot where it can still be equiped with narrow tyres and it does have the potential to work with most medium size 6m equipment aswell.

Shiftry between logging and silage, I took right off on no mans land. I started with the same Ferguson tractor, then got an international I found in modhub. That helped a lot. 145hp tractor for 45k in the game.
