Being a Sci-Fi-nerd, I have seen seven from this list. Predestination as well as Dark City are incredibly suspenseful und visually stunning. I highly recommend them to anyone, interested in twisted Sci-Fi. On the other hand: Stalker shows plenty of dismal but beautiful landscape. However it's slowness finally annoyed me, when I found, that there is little, if any storyline in this journey to nowhere.
@HyphyJuice9163 жыл бұрын
Beyond the Black Rainbow is very slow-paced. If you haven't watched it and like trippy, slow metaphorical movies it's pretty damn good. It's a very simple story that's stretched with a strong hit of acid. It's the same Director that made Mandy but very different. Nicholas Cage watched it when he was brought on for Mandy and he said he didn't sleep for a week. I think that's a bit of a stretch but worth the watch in my opinion.

It's really trippy, with neat visuals, and the ending is perfect. Plus, the US release DVD gives you a great Cardigans video as a special feature!

Beyond the Black Rainbow is such a great film. It takes the very simple premise of a teenaged girl with psychic powers trying to escape from an abusive research facility and turns it into a mind-bending experience that feels more like a bad acid trip. I first watched it during the worst period of my life where my senses were already super distorted due to a combination of psychotic depression and sleep deprivation due to chronic insomnia. It was a super trippy experience and honestly kinda scary but I loved it. I was definitely going a little crazy and I almost found comfort in the weirdness and uncomfortable nature of the movie because it was familiar to me. I’m doing far better now but Beyond the Black Rainbow still holds a special place in my heart.

2 movies that deserve a mention for this list "The Quiet Earth" And "Night of the Comet"

I fell in love with Night of the Comet when I rented it when I was a kid in the late 80's, very surprised it wasn't mentioned.

Under The Skin was ground breaking - it finally demonstrated that rapists can be heroes too.

@@pamoweiberezi5315 *SPOILER* The movie features an alien that takes the form of a beautiful woman (Scarlett Johansson). It lures or abducts men to a dark void within an abandoned house. There the men are absorbed/dissolved into a liquid. At the end of the movie, a guy tries to rape it. In the struggle, its real skin is revealed, and the guy douses it in gasoline and burns it alive, saving future possible victims.

There is a little known movie called "Garm Wars: The Last Druid" in which clones are fighting a war and two of the clones get caught up in a search for their creator.

One more add to the story. THE DEAD MOUNTAINEER'S HOTEL´1979. Neo noir movie that was made in soviet union back in the days and should be mentioned along Tarkovsky`s Solaris. The plot contains androids, aliens and a clueless police detective who tries to figure out the murder investigation in the middle of the madness at the time of isolation caused by avalanche. Movie is made after the novel by brothers Strugatsky and is very much one of the kind.

Another Earth, Ink and I Origins were also awesome and very under-rated Sci-fi movies also if anyone hasn't seen them, they are definitely worth the watch if you enjoy the genre!

I guess nobody remembers Mamoru Oshii's Avalon (directed in 2001). The entire movie was shot in Poland and Sepia Color. Ghost in the Shell partly inspired Matrix, the Wachowskis said. Then Oshii used that tribute to finally convince producers to greenlight his own VR movie, which he planned since the 80s. Avalon intro titles are his tribute to matrix

Yay, a list that exists that isn't filled with movies we've all already seen!! I haven't heard of most of these and I couldn't be more excited to check these out! Thank you for digging deeper on this. With the pandemic in full swing I appreciate this more than I can express in a single comment!

An excellent list. Unfortunately, I've seen all these movies. All fantastic mind you, but still I wonder... Can someone create a list like this but specifically for movie buffs who have seen these movies? I'd guess that such a list would have a lot of foreign movies on it, since even movie buffs tend to neglect foreign films. I've been on a Japanese movie kick and let me tell you, I can't believe how good some of these movies are. If you don't mind subtitles (you get used to them extremely quickly), it's like going into a coma for 10 years then having a 10 year movie library to look forward too. I just got done watching a movie called "Love Exposure" and oh my god what a great movie. I had goosebumps. Check the trailer out here on youtube.

apparently a lot of the crew from Stalker had health problems after working on the film. many shots were taken near on abandoned plants and factories with toxic environments. many people on set died after filming including Tarkovsky himself.

My Personal favourite would be Enders Game. The Movie would be even more twisted if they included the shit his brother is doing on earth in the meantime or at least hinted at Beans background instead of simply saying he's from a slum in brasil
