Real nostalgia here. I saw Stray and Edgar Broughton at the Dagenham Roundhouse in the early 70s. Great bands. In those days radio coverage of progressive rock, aside from John Peel's 2-hour long 'Top Gear' radio show on a Sunday afternoon, was virtually zero. Therefore, lots of great bands developed loyal followings through constant gigging, but were never really heard by the masses; eventually passing into obscurity. That's what makes uploads like this so important. Great stuff, thanks.

May Blitz made two amazing albums! I was in contact with Reid Hudson for quite sometime. He & James moved back to their native Canada. Reid told me that Tony (Tony Newman) was touring with the Everley Brothers. He send me a picture of a reunion (not musical) the three of them had... this must have been 10 years ago now! Stray was another great band... i saw them a few times. Del was always a nice guy! Great back catalog those guys have!

dyvelsten It’s been quite a few years since I recall first stumbling on your Top Ten list videos and I really gotta Thank you so much for introducing me to and sparking something within me an interest in these bands along with their music I’m sure I’m not the only one. I was hoping by now you would keep creating new videos of lists with these Obscure Classic bands, I’m sure you have more than ample supply of music and can create various more lists of various subjects. For example Top Ten or Twenty on the best albums by the obscure bands of each year then juxtaposed to that a video list of the Top Ten or Twenty popular albums of the same year. If you needed more ideas you could either ask the viewers which lists they’d like to see or contact me I have a few too. I hope this inspires you. Happy New Year and Keep on Rockin in the FREE WORLD !

thanks for making this list & post. everyone would make a different one but yours is great. and I understand that it's as much your personal faves as it is what you might think are the 'best'. I don't know what anybody else is complaining about - they should instead just go make their own posts. I knew 9 out of 10 of these bands so to me your list is logical and does contain pretty much 'the best' though I'd substitute a few. but these are UNDERGROUND, HEAVY, PROGRESSIVE. not PROG or SYMPHONIC.
@tenorman5711 жыл бұрын
Top 10's are really really hard. I was around the scene at this time. Stray were a fantastic band from my home town. Personally I couldn't leave out Judas Priest who I used to go see at tiny venues like The Greyhound Hammersmith and The Marquee in Wardore St. They became one of the worlds biggest. Also I'd have to include Budgie. The Welsh 3 piece penned I think and performed the original and far superior Bread Fan

Dig the comments since they help throw light on some other great bands. Didn't see AFT, (Automatic Fine Tuning) listed...only made one album, they were mostly instrumental, maybe a bit like Wishbone Ash but with a heavier and more mechanical sound. Bands like Don Caballero (decades later) seem to have picked up where they left off.

Hey Stray were great in the studio but I fully agree LIVE (Like BUDGIE) they were something else! I saw Stray live a number of times over the years despite only living in the UK for 1 year in the last 20 or so years! Del Bronham was a f--kin monster on stage and near flawless. Did you ever see BUDGIE? How good live were they!!!

ahh, as you can imagine I had the choice of making an explosive expression of my delight at finding some prog new to me online, or making an informed and knowledgeable discussive comment, so I chose the former. Was chuffed to hear the Edgar Broughton Band's similarity to Clear Blue Sky, as they're from Warwick, just down the road from me. I'll not even start suggesting alternative pigeon holes for classifying some of these selections, as it's all obscure 70's rock to me - awesome/ unheard!
