That is an interesting note. Proportionately that summary lines up with our average uke sales and the £300-600 category is the one with the most well known and safe options that have not really developed or changed for years. It also tells me that what you get for £600-1000 is currently noteworthy which is definitely more true now than in the past.

Don't know the final order, but I am guessing there will be more than one or two that I have had a look at. I ended 2020 thinking it was a bit of a lame time for new innovation. Whilst the pandemic has something to do with that I actually thought the same at the end of 2019 - all very samey. 2021 though has thrown up some great new interesting stuff. Been a good year considering. You and Matt have become my 'go-to's' for new interesting stuff that breaks away from the usual re-badges and endless ukes that all look the same.
@SouthernUkuleleStore2 жыл бұрын
That's good to hear. I think that the brands that chose to push forward at the start of the pandemic rather than try and steady the ship have thrived. Its clear now compared to say 2018/2019 how many big ukulele brands have coasted along and been overtaken. It's so interesting how new brands can break through in the uke world compared to the guitar world...

@@SouthernUkuleleStore Totally agree - ukes I suppose are still young in the modern market (obvious trad names excepted) and I can think of countless obvious names that were literally the ONLY value choice ten years back becoming less and less relevant. All good for consumer choice of course.

Hi, I love your videos. So my question is I own a entry level ukulele (kala). I now want to step up to a better uke. I am not a pro, but there are tons of entry level brands, but I don't know what the next step brands are. There seems to be tons out there. I live in the Pacific NW (Portland, Oregon). What do you recommend. Something that is not thousands, but not a plastic uke either.
@SouthernUkuleleStore2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure of your budget. I would say if you are looking under $400 Ohana, Kala, Pono, Flight or Snail... above that Anuenue Millar, Big Island, Romero Creations. I'd probably just go on our website and search a size you want by price and watch a load of the videos to figure out what floats your boat. 😁

Hey guys, I don't suppose you've done a comparison video of electro acoustic ukes by any chance? I live in France and gig a lot and am fed up of being stuck behind a mic all the time. Any advice? I currently have an Ashbury concert resonator and love the loud mellow sound. I'd love to hear your thoughts on what's on the market right now.
@SouthernUkuleleStore2 жыл бұрын
I haven't done many electro uke videos because there are too many variables... the ukes only going to be as good as the amp you plug them in to. I rate Kala, Snail and Flight above the others at the affordable end of things...

Alex, could I ask that you do a video on what SUS offers us lefties? I love these uke's with side sound holes but they're pretty pointless for us southpaws!
@SouthernUkuleleStore2 жыл бұрын
There are very few dedicated leftys of note. The Snail SR04 and S60Bs come in a left handed variation and an ohana tk35gcelh but that's about it... everything else would be converted from a right hander. I'm with you... its a pain being a lefty. Most ukes are fine when converted

Sorry we haven't. Gotaukulele is the place for a review like that...more power to you if it does it for you but it looks a rip off being an all laminate uke at over £250. It looks like it comes out of the factory making the fender ukes.

@@SouthernUkuleleStore that was my feeling also, I am a huge Queen fan, but was disappointed to see the low quality for the price... I've only found one review which was text only and did mention that the larger body gives a darker mellowed sound which is what I'm after in a tenor, but quality and value are way more important to me than simply having a signature uke.
