@@schoolboyqsbuckethat8522 He really didn't tune his guitar differently at first. Down a 1/2 was and is still is a common practice and the effect isn't that earth shattering but some prefer the feel n set-up of their instruments that way . Later He began dropping lower n lower fior the more ominous sound until the common setup was around C# (minor third below standard). When Boom out the Blue He opted to go back to the original 1/2 step down in the late 70's leaving Ozzy hanging out to dry as suddenly He's gotta sing all the C# stuff a whole step higher live (there's some very non-pretty live KZbin clips of that).

When Queen recorded "The show must go on", Freddie Mercury, the lead singer, was dying of HIV/AIDS. He was so ill when the song was recorded that Brian May, the guitarist, was concerned whether Freddie was physically capable of singing it or not. But recalling Mercury's performance, May states; "I said, 'Fred, I don't know if this is going to be possible to sing.' And he went, 'I'll fucking do it, darling' - vodka down - and went in and killed it, completely lacerated that vocal." Which means Freddie Mercuy nailed one of the toughest songs for male singers on his first attempt, even though he was dying. That's "unbeliveble facts in music history" to me!

Actually it was a statement he had made his whole life. In the documentaries involving his best friends from childhood they all said "Wicker" (was his nickname to his childhood friends), would always tell them " I'll never live to see thirty years old." They thought as most kids do that he was just talking shit. Turns out it was prophetic. He called it. Lynyrd Skynyrd was without competition or dispute the greatest Rock-N-Roll band of all American history. They have a catalog of songs that go way past the usual overplayed stuff you hear on the radio, they wrote more classic rock songs than most other bands combined, and Ronnie Van Zant NEVER even wrote one of them down. It was all in his memory, spooky or what? He told Ed KIng, "If it's not worth remembering ,then it's not any good!" when Ed asked him why he didn't write any of his down on paper. R.I.P. Rebel Brother!

My favorites: 1. Revision of the "Happy Birthday" copyright status: The copyright is no longer valid and the song is now in the public domain. 2. Bohemian Rhapsody. Due to the novelty of the twenty-four-track, two-inch tape recorder at the time, Freddy Mercury produced the "rock opera" segment of the song with so many overdubs, the tape's oxide layer wore so thin, not only did it require extensive use of Dolby A noise reduction, the tape was translucent.

I think the 27 club is a psychological phenomenon. In that when you reach 27 you first start to think that your boundless youth is starting to really fade away. It started with me around then followed by the first couple of weeks turning 30 really being hard! I think it effects people who have a vulnerability to depression. Which these dead Rock stars suffered from...the drug and alcohol abuse being a side-effect of this.

I agree with you. I think young people living hard, once they start turning over to the other side of their twenties their bodies don't take it any more. The abuse an 18 year old can take is more than a 26 year old can take, and I think 27 is just about that magic number that they wear out.

It also, if you believe in such things, corresponds with the astrological phenomenon of "Saturn return"...Saturn rules the dark side, and death, and Saturn returns to the same position in your chart that it was when you were born. Another 27 club member, Ronnie Van Zant, knew he wouldn't make 28. He told everyone he wouldn't. He knew the fateful flight would be his end. It happened very close to his 28th birthday. Toto, known to most only for the son Africa, is technically the most successful band of all time. They're a supergroup of the most sought after session musicians in the industry at the time they got together and a conservative estimate of their total song credits is somewhere over 5000. (Thanks to FactFiend for this one). Elton John struggled with the chorus for Circle of Life. He'd written the whole some but couldn't shake the feeling that there was something missing in the build up. He asked for Andrew Lloyd Webber's thoughts and his suggestion was exactly perfect. The line he gave? "On the path unwinding". I know a few more but they're a little too apocryphal for me to comfortably tout as facts.

A cool fact regarding Roy Orbison: Roy Orbison's sunglasses image happened by accident. He left his regular prescription glasses on a plane when he got to Alabama (I think) for a concert and went on stage with his prescription sunglasses instead. He was embarrassed but someone took pictures of him and used them to promote his UK tour so the image stuck and the rest is history.

Two Unbelievable Music Facts: 1. Michael Jackson had worn a wig since 1984 when pyrotechnic devices accidentally set his hair on fire during the filming of a Pepsi advert, resulting in third degree burns to his scalp, forcing him to wear a wig to hide his baldness. This fact never came out until soon after he died. 2. The Beatles, when they started, didn't know how to write songs so they worked it out themselves.

You know what's cool here...the nodules on Mariah's vocal chords are actually a random mutation that started with her mother, and were passed down to her as a now dominant gene. So that means in like 500 years, assuming her kids keep having kids, there could be billions of people on Earth with a seven octave range. We, as a species, just became better singers because of Mariah Carey. Think THAT one over lol.

Someone has to put an end to this myth that the Greek national anthem has 158 stanzas. That has been repeated by ignorant media (mostly NBC during the Olympics) and it is completely false. The Greek National anthem is made up of just TWO stanzas that are taken from an epic poem called "Hymn to freedom". The poem itself has 158 stanzas but only the first two stanzas make up the Greek National anthem.
