it's not exactly unrealistic. Even if there is an apocalypse, there is a lot of ammo spread around, given the fact that many people own firearms and ammo. The firearms business is always strong, so finding firearms isn't such a mystery. Plus the amount of preppers and survivalists and such. And if one of those people left home in case of an apocalypse, they would leave some things behind, including firearms they couldn't carry.

Deagles are loaded with .50 caliber bullets, while SMGs nowadays carry about 1/3 the size of a .50 caliber. Plus sniper rifles use that sort of ammunition too
@KrazyWhiteBoy14110 жыл бұрын
DingoWaffle some smg's are chambered in .45 ACP which is only .05 inches less than the diameter of the .50 AE which is what many desert eagles are chambered in. also there is not a single sniper rifle in the world that uses the same ammunition as the desert eagle, the ballistics of handgun ammunition simply do not have the capability to travel the distances that are required. you are confusing the .50AE with the .50BMG which are not at all similar. getting shot with any firearm of any caliber is lethal given that vital organs are damaged or major blood vessels are ruptured.

The first one, yeah, it's pretty dumb. Second one? That's because you're getting punched by a fist attached to an arm that is able to flip a tank that weighs 50+ tons. The only reason Spartans don't use their fists ALL OF THE TIME is because you can't throw your punches as far as you can throw a bullet.

@SymphonMusic10 жыл бұрын
cooldude2251 It's probably fairly similar to modern combat armor. It's designed to stop projectiles, not blunt objects. Take for instance a kevlar vest. Shoot someone in the chest with a 9mm handgun that has a vest on, the wind is just knocked out of them. Hit them in the chest with a sledgehammer or a mace, it's gonna crack ribs, cause major bruises, and maybe even some internal bleeding. Now make a shield that protects from only bigger rounds that has about 4x as much force... And see how it protects against a blunt object with 100x as much force.
@cooldude225110 жыл бұрын
SymphonOfficial true story. i just cant believe they haven't created armor that can withstand a simple punch but can practically stand on a grenade and still walk around no problem. and now that i think about it wouldnt that be considered blunt force?

The "adventurer like you" thing is about as common as every other stock phrase for the guards. And the dialogue they say is really interesting. How about the cliche that reloading after firing three rounds from a 30 round magazine somehow doesnt waste the remaining amunition that youve just thrown away. Also to be a bit more specific, when reloading from a non-empty magazine completely empties the gun, if your magazine isnt empty at the point of reload, removing the mag' will leave one round in the chamber. Therefore giving one extra shot once you place the fresh mag'. The only game i have played that includes this is Crysis 2 and even then you dont lose any amunition you throw away when reloading. Shooters would be a lot more interesting if you lost any ammo you threw away from reloading.
@wedlock9410 жыл бұрын
rainbow six vegas 1 + 2 leave a bullet in the chamber after reloading, pretty sure ghost recon did the same, red orchestra on the pc has it to and you lose any ammo in your mag, you actually keep partially full mags to which is annoying when you think you have a full mag to shoot 2 bullets and be out of ammo

I think in battle field 4 they do that. If you have ammo in your mag and reload it gets rid of the ammo instead of just magically adding extra ammo into your mag. So I find myself sitting there cursing the game developers, thinking 'Why would they put these in?! Who in god's name actually enjoys these?' @MsMegadude6410 жыл бұрын
Ah, yes. Because stopping the game entirely, just to select stuff from menus is SOOOOOO deep. IMO, MGS4 handled the healing system better with the Psyche meter. Doing things like sticking to shade, moving slowly, staying out of combat, AND selecting stuff from menus will lower it. While staying in direct sunlight, getting into gunfights, and taking damage will lower it. Most of this took place while the game was in motion as apposed to just selecting stuff from menus.
@kecu010 жыл бұрын
B1G B0SS You have to understand that MGS3's healing options were basically a prototype feature for the franchise. It hadn't been done prior, and I'm sure the studio were just seeing as to whether it would go down well with fans or not. MGS4's healing feature only ever worked BECAUSE MGS3 had a survival system; if not, the player may have felt it overwhelming (as you've mentioned, it included more than MGS3's select screen), or out-of-place. Introducing such a feature during a game that took place in the jungle, I found, was a great move on behalf of the developers, and was a gamble that revolutionised the series somewhat - of which is why I find it to be pretty awesome.

What about that time when you die and then respawn again? WTF? You should only die once and then it's game over FOREVER, that copy of your game shouldnt work anymore.
@pasheg434510 жыл бұрын
The concept of 'no respawn' is not new in gaming. In some very old games like 'Prince of Persia' (not the 3D version, but the one from 1980s) there were NO SAVES, checkpoints and respawns. If you happen to die (and the game was INSANELY hard and pretty long, with no difficulty levels), you have to start it all over. That was pure madness (for some players literally, I'd guess). Thankfully, games have become much more forgiving since then.

Actually, my bad. Wikipedia states that there were saves in the original Prince of Persia, but only after you've completed 1/4 of the game. What kind of saves, I'm uncertain. I didn't know that, because I was able to pass through the first 5-6 rooms at best (which is probably less than 1% of the game). I'd guess, the later remakes like "Prince of Persia Classic" are easier and have unlimited saves.

Saying regenerative health is a game cliche is silly since it's more of a mechanic that allowed for completely different kinds of games. Health packs forced players to often back track, desperately hoping to find something to give them health. The last game I played with it (RESISTANCE) was one of the worst FPS games as of a result. Without regenerating health, watch games like Call Of Duty, Halo, or most modern FPS's become completely broken because of the amount of enemies.
@thedeathjudge9 жыл бұрын
It's a cliche, it's an overused mechanic on today's games.

Unoriginal Gangster The multiplayer was decent, but the actual game was awful. It's environments were uninspired, the enemy AI was terrible even for it's time. Halo 2 came out years before Resistance and was vastly mechanically superior. I have yet to see regenerating health implemented in any modern game effectively. Going back a few years the last game I remember doing it decently was F.E.A.R. Otherwise it just resulted in frustration when you had to run around the levels looking for health packs regardless of whether or not your playstyle is aggressive or passive. Anyone who plays games for realism is an idiot. Go outside and experience 'realism'. A game also doesn't have to be realistic to be competitive, considering most of the large circuit competitive games are as far from realistic as you can get.

Yes But the amnesia cliche needs to just disappear. I'd rather take a few hours of flashbacks and maybe a tutorial or two set in the past as opposed to wasting 15 or 20 minutes of the opening of the game going through a tutorial that I've played in other games before. Seriously. Skippable. Tutorials. ESPECIALLY in New Game + modes goddamnit! I want to get on and just play...not sit through a longass tutorial and have to go and have the game hold my hand and point out exactly where to click if I'm doing the second or third run of a game with an unskippable tutorial.

@killgoretheculinarydestroy279 жыл бұрын
Why number 1? Why is it ridiculous a large piece of piercing metal forced into a exposed point at close range is more effective than firing bullets at someone who has armour on to protect them from bullets? And when you buy something, the vendor built it beforehand!
@Conn5319 жыл бұрын
Killgore the culinary destroyer you don't believe that the same armor that protects them from bullets also protects them from knives? i would guess that a bullet would cause much more damage than a standard knife. most bullets expand in the body causing widespread damage while a knife cleanly punctures the body.

Here are some of the burning clichés that always get to me: Enemies are too dumb to care if you snipe the person right next to them, or they forget after 30 seconds. When you break into an enemy fortress that is armed to the teeth with hundreds of enemies but instead of retaliating / attacking as a team and working together to defend each other and eliminate the threat right away, they spread out as thin as possible so that you never have to fight more than a handful at a time. The average every-day (often teenage) hero is able to take out entire armies of heavily armed enemies by him or her self. Unless it's a cut-scene where the hero is surrounded by 3 light infantry units and subsequently arrested. Why do you always start out at level 1 with no items or money - even if you're character is supposed to come from royalty or a wealthy background, or has military training in their backstory? Bosses almost always have significantly more health than normal enemies (imagine if this was true in real life). You can carry a stack of infinity treasure chests, but you can only carry one sword per inventory slot.

Take the earily Rainbow Six series, you know, before they tried to copy halo and COD and ruined the series, if a character got shot, they died. Another thought, the best cliche by far is the carrying capacity for most games. Like how Link holds a full arsenal of weapons ranging from a sword, a bow, 60 bombs and Arrows, three magic jewels, a boomerang, a hookshot, Pouch of 30 palm sized seeds, 5 glass jars, 24 masks and a magical potato flute. All without a satchel or a backpack of any sort. Or how the ships in age of empires will hold 10 elephants, but not 11 soldiers. Cause, yknow, god forbid they have more than ten people to carry to war.

I always hated the "regenerating health" thing. Back in my day when games were punishingly hard, you had to rely on the enemies to drop health, find some health, manage your resources, or pray you don't get hit while you're figuring out the patterns to not get hit in the future. This "regenerating health" crap takes out the need to learn patterns and the management of resources. Also, Quick Time Events, ye gods was that ever a bad idea. Cutscenes are meant to be enjoyed by sitting back, relaxing, and watching for more story information, especially if it came after a very stress full boss. Cuscenes are a good way to unwind.

The reason for regenerative health is that back when you needed health kits to heal, The AI sucked. So it was easier to avoid taking damage. But as AI programming got better, it became harder to survive on health kits. So most games simply give regenerating health.

Play any of the old games. AI was simple. Look at left 4 dead. It has health kits but the AIs are simple and do not work together. Old games werent harder. It was harder to recover from a mistake but it was easier to not make mistakes. Maybe go back and play The original call of duty versus the current ones. You died significantly less.

So what this video is saying is that video games should be impossible to make and be unique in every way and not have anything that has been used in a video game.

Then the people that make video games will be like "OH SHIT THE PUBLIC'S PISSED BECAUSE WE AREN'T MAKING GAMES ANY MORE" "I KNOW WE WOULD MAKE MORE GAMES BUT ALL THE IDEAS HAVE BEEN USED" "WE SHOULD MAKE PICKLE THROWING SIMULATOR". Thank god this guy doesn't rule the world.

but it only points the finger at rinsed and repeated events that have no realism, use or bearing on the actual gameplay experience, there is also still thousands of remaining possibilities to video games, i've yet to see a game where u can build an entire city(with an actual economy and population) in the first person, or a sidescrolling 3d tower defense game , if ur gonna pick an idea to pieces try a rational approach instead of a biast viewpoint like, Everythings already been done.

Steven McNeill You make a game like that, that's good, without ANY of these cliches then. If you do, I will sincerely apologize for everything about this comment and it's replies. Or at least find one.
