The problem with Mass Effect's ending wasn't that it was bad. The problem was that it wasn't properly set up throughout the games, came out of nowhere and changed the essence of the story in a heartbeat. It wasn't bad, it was out of place.

WRONG...the ending was. You did not pay attention to the foreshadowing. And Mass Effect was always about how your choices impact the destinies of others and how what we create can turn on us. The ending summed these ideas up. And the Reaper's backstory definitely fit the themes of the series.

How would you know what I paid attention to? In my opinion, reducing the ending to having some sort of god-kid directly talking to Sheppard, offering him to decide the fate of the galaxy, felt both pretentious and like an easy way out from the thousands of variables the player had set in motion throughout the three games. The theme may have been respected, but the tone and execution felt out of place at least to me. Maybe if I replay the games now I won't feel as dissapointed as the first time, who knows.

txgoldrush It wasn't foreshadowed enough with the original cut and the ending, with the liner final battle followed by a three way path and an explanation of what the reaper's purpose was, caught the gamers by surprise and made themselves scratch their heads. But, with the EC and Leviathan, the foreshadowing was much more clear. For post EC newcomers, me included, the story was spectacular and the ending felt worthy after the 120 or so hours we put into the trilogy beginning to end. :) And to all the people still bitching about the choice Bioware took to reveal the Reaper's purpose, did you really take Sovereign's word for it? "We have no beginning we have no end." He's just trying to scare you. I immediately called him on his bullshit first playthrough so it came to no surprise to me that those space squids were pawns of something else and they didn't even know about it. Makes me think about the plot twist of BioShock now that I think about it.

Even the fact that you have to make a decision in the end was foreshadowed. Javik tells you that victory is not won without difficult choices when you talk to him in the FOB in London. Shepard can say that he had to make a lot of those. But Javik would then say "there may be more". A huge fallacy that people who bash the ending make is that they assume that whatever Sovereign and Vigil says is hard lore, its not, they can be contradicted. And it seems like Sovereign is a puppet and didn;t even know it.

I may be too much of a simpleton for feeling like this, but I just wanted to beat the game by shooting something many times as I had done through the whole experience. Not debate philosophy. That's the change of essence I meant. I expected the mother of all firefights at the end and I felt cheated. Even the last fights I did get felt lazy and anticlimactic. Don't get me wrong, I read every codex entry and was hugely into the lore and themes of the game. But I really wanted to beat the Reapers via shooting. I spent three games wanting to shoot them into oblivion. And then I got the God kid. It just rubbed me the wrong way. I'm currently replaying the trilogy with all the DLC I didn't have the first time. Maybe I'll like it more this time.

Assassin's Creed also has Brotherhood & Revelation, so it's not a trilogy. Bioshock 1&2 are the only two continuous games in the franchise, Infinite(although amazing) wasn't a direct threequel so you can't call it a trilogy.

Thank god the Mass Effect trilogy was number one! Truly the most personal, emotional, & epic gaming experience I've ever had. The ending had its issues for sure, but never before has a game series made its story feel like my own and made its characters feel like family to me. No matter which installment is your favorite, the romance you chose, the choices you made, or your opinion on the ending, this journey had me invested start to finish and had me in tears as the credits rolled. Thank you Bioware, and thank you WatchMojo for understanding what this game did for us.

A few other trilogies I think are worth a mention are: Pikmin trilogy Spyro PS1 trilogy The Legend of Spyro trilogy (yes I know they're different and repetivie but I think Sierra did a really good job on rebooting Spyro, better than Skylanders any day) Lego Star Wars trilogy (1: The Video Game, 2: The Original Trilogy and 3: The Clone Wars, Complete Saga was 1 and 2) Both Professor Layton trilogys Mario Party trilogy (1 - 3) Pac-Man World trilogy Golden Sun trilogy Mother trilogy Original Rayman trilogy (1 - 3, the new games are reboots of a sort but more just revivals) I was gonna add in Sly Cooper PS2 trilogy, AC Ezio trilogy and the Ratchet and Clank trilogies on the PS2 and the Future one on PS3 (Deadlocked and Quest for Booty are side games) but those don't really count as trilogies. Games I hope get the trilogy treatment or are in the future are: Bayonetta 3 Kingdom Hearts 3 Donkey Kong Country Returns 3 Epic Mickey 3 (even if 2 was poor) Lego Batman 3 LittleBigPlanet 3 inFAMOUS 3 Banjo Threeie (JUST SELL THE RIGHTS TO NINTENDO MICROSOFT! There's no actual logic to them at all. They even break their own rules frequently. Truth be told, this is one of their better lists.

These lists are pretty hypocritical as well. They rank MGS as one of their most overrated games, and they put it at number 2 for best stealth games and MGS1 for number 1 on PS1 games. Putting GTA San Andreas for best PS2 game is a credibility damager for me, and really goes to show how these lists are ranked in terms of popularity and not in terms of quality. This is one of their better lists because it's not as insulting. A lot of the comments on this video are just as hilarious as a Mojo list.

And I don't think Arkham City or Asylum were bad games, they were great, but DLC being announced before any real big details about the game have been released just makes the game sound like MK X, where it's just there to make money, and had no real heart in it.

Halo got worse throughout the story or the little story Bungie gave us and just focused on multiplayer. Halo 1 and 2 and Halo 3 ODST was the best Halo games. Halo Reach story was okay I give it okay the gameplay was amazing though I can give it that. Halo 4 was okay but kicking off another trilogy like that shame on 343. And Halo 3 was the worse out of all the halo games not counting Halo wars or Halo Spartan Assault.

couldn't agree more. the ending wasn't bad, it just wasn't as good as it could have been. when i ask people why they don't like it or what they didn't like about it, it's usually something petty that could easily be overlooked, misunderstanding what was going on, or the fact that they couldn't choose exactly how it ended--but i usually don't hear the same complaints consistently. not to say that some detractors don't have legitimate complaints about the ending, but i get the feeling that a lot of people are just jumping on the bandwagon of saying "the ending sucked."

They tried to leave it with too many questions that the public wanted immediately resolved because we had known that this was Shepard's final story. I am so damn sick of people whining about the ending. They picked an an ending that (yes poorly explained and abrupt) at least tried to continue with the theme of hard choices rather than giving you a over used and/or cliche "happily ever after" ending, and gave a poorly written, but at least unique ending to the series where it is up to you to decide on the right course of action and spend the night wondering about what you have done. And as someone who got the best possible endings yes, your decisions do count, they just don't jump out at you at the end and go "boo".

I understand why Bioshock got an honorable mention. While the first bioshock and Infinite were both unbelievable games, they aren't really a trilogy. And while the second Bioshock cleaned up the mechanics of the first, it wasn't as good as the first. Also, there is no continuous story: the only thing the first two games share is setting and game play while infinite was a whole nother animal. So as individual games they are fantastic, but as a trilogy not so much

Majora-Jedi Hmmm, there's seem to be a major consensus that Revelations sucks, IMO , it is quite the opposite. First, you get to see the climax of the story (Old ezio, how badass is that, considering that you were playing as him since his 20's or something?) Second, you get so many information about Altair that is incredible how similar Ezio and him once were,like damn, they started as both stubborn and overconfident assasins to become the wisest and humblest men in the AC world. Third, you get that epic ending with a dialogue line by Ezio that honestly, till today i can't seem to forget. : "No books ...no wisdom... just you fratello mio" If that isn't fucking epic then i don't know what it is. Anyways, as for the gameplay mechanics and stuff, then i may agree, personally i hated with my life those Tower Defense missions... they were so broken and annoying.

Fallout should've at least gotten an honorable mention. I know they aren't directly related character-wise but all three share the same game world (post apocalyptic US), and most of the factions and storylines intertwine so I feel it shouldn't really be a problem. Some characters from previous titles of the trilogy are seen in Fallout 3 as well. If bioshock got an HM, The fallout trilogy so should've, seeing as how the bioshock games aren't direct sequels, either.

The story is a bit the problem, I'm afraid. The First God of War was overall a great game, too bad for the uninspired god designs in the first game. Storywise, not really problem yet. The second was fantastic, the best of the series (in my opinion) but it had one big problem with the story. The time paradox it created is still hard to understand. Zeus kills Kratos and destroys his army before destroying Sparta. Something Kratos clearly remembers. Yet after killing Clotho and traveling back in time, he pushes Zeus away, and pulls the sword out of the corpse of his past self before Zeus can any of this. And we know Kratos was still alive (he died shortly after) when Zeus removed the sword the first time. He was conscious when his future self removed the sword. So Kratos would have known, he had been successful in finding the Fates and change his destiny. The time paradox has also a great effect on the events of God of War III. Him traversing the island of Creation, would have taken several days. But the night (or the morning after) he tried to kill his father for the first time, he succesfully killed Poseidon. The flood caused by this, would have been noticed by Kratos. The fates would known that Kratos would succeed as his future self was killing gods before he reached them (you could argue, he waited a few days before attacking Olympus but it remains a point of discussion, also waiting didn't seem his thing.) As for God of War III, epic game, especially the boss battles but the Pandora Plot wasn't good. Sorry but it contains many flaws. Poseidon, Helios and Hera are killed by Kratos with his bare hands. Hades got his soul torn out of him, resulting in his death, Hermes had his legs amputated by regular swords. Hephaestus is killed with his own Anvil... And still Kratos needs to find the power to kill a God. One could argue that both Poseidon and Helios were weakened by Titans prior to their death and Hephaestus was turned mortal (similar to Prometheus), but still this doesn't account for the deaths of both Hera and Hermes. Secondly, Kratos was in possesion of two weapons that seemingly could end the life of a God: the Claws of Hades could strip someone of his soul, mortal, god or titan and this would more likely result in their death, as well as the Blade of Olympus, able to kill Gods and Titans alike. The games themselves are fantastic and I really love them but the story of God of War isn't perfect... In fact quite flawed (And I didn't mention the death of Persephone, which is the first Olympian killed by Kratos although he didn't know how to kill a God 10 years later, neither mentioned the fact that her death nor the death of Thanatos were mentioned as Kratos spoke with Gaia.)

I'm glad Mass Effect had a spot on this list. I've invested hundreds of hours into the trilogy, and I don't plan on stopping anytime soon. Even though the ending to ME3 wasn't spectacular, I'm not gonna let that one ending ruin the whole trilogy for me. The extended cut DLC for ME3 was enough for me to be satisfied.

Honestly Assassin's Creed 1 and 2 were good (2 being the best imo) but the third? Pretty shitty. And I do understand the love for Mass Effect, since I enjoy the series as well. The ability to transfer choices, the amount of characters and the fun gameplay make it deserving, even for the absolute shit ending of the third one (but up until that point, the game was still good, just...that ending was terrible)

AC3 ending it's just a cliffhanger, only to have more and more and more games. And, ME ending has a choice to make. In AC3 ending, the game give to us 2 choices, and explain each, BUT, Desmond chose for us. So, yes, AC have a worse ending then Mass Effect.
