In 35mm, I've tried the Leica iiig. But the lenses where very expensive. So I sold it and buy a Nikon SP2... and it was the begining... Now I have the FM2, FM3a, F3 and F100. Nikkor lenses are good too. At medium format it's a great jump... I start with TLR Minolta.😊

I really should get back to film more, I have been mostly busy with my Fujifilm GFX50S recently.

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha ............... You must be joking. You love the Linhof, because of the fact they are a bit of a Leica. So you think a Linhof is quite compact. You are wrong by saying the Linhof cameras are made by German prtecision. "Linhof cameras are made by Bavarian precision; which standard is a bit higher", in my opinion. You might know the brands: Rodenstock lenses, Kraus Tiger tanks, Hofbrau beer, Compur shutters, BMW cars, Metz electronic flash, Perutz film and Dirndl dress. Linhof Technika cameras are made in four format sizes: 2 x 3 4 x 5 5 x 7 8 x 10 inch. The continental 6 x 9 9 x 12 13 x 18 18 x 24 cm double flm holders will fit into the international back of the cameras. As well as a single film holder, mounted in its insert. Plus Pola backs and roll film backs. Do not mess around with cm and inch sheet films and film holders. You need a 300 mm or a 360 mm lens for a portrait.

so surprised at this , I am Hassy shooter and not really seen alot of others with them out and about in London .. I know watching you tube , that people were late to explore the hassie , there were far few people showcasing he hassie compared to Pentax or mamiya and even rolleiflex , not doubt as square is such different format to the norm and niche , all though you can shoot 645 too .. along with polaroid .. and 35mm pano's and even digital if you loose your mind 😁 .. the hassie is a very versatile once you learn it , I am still surprised it beat Leica and others .. but will take the win.

My favs are the mamiya rb67 in 67 and my most amazing camera, the nikon f6 sold until october 2020! Auto focus, dead on matrix metering, 1/8000 shutter, works with my stunning nikon, zeiss and voigtlander glass, 5.5 fps. In 645, the mamiya 645 pro tl. For portraits I don't need auto focus and if I do, I'd use the f6 for those shots. With topaz gigapixel ai for upsizing, I and make stunning 16" prints and 20" with fine grain films like T grain.

Acros and portra. That f6 is one of my favorite cameras along with the RB67. I carry the RB for hours cross body on an optech strap. For street, dark slide out, film advanced, shutter lock off and no inadvertent shots because shutter not cocked. Can swing it up, cock the shutter that won't be forgotten because can't see out the viewfinder with out it, snap to focus with a split prism view finder, click. I use it for street and up to 3 hour walk abouts.

Crazy to me I’ve tried or owned almost every camera in your try before you die. Agree the sl66 is complicated but can produce amazing tilt shift images. Sold mine sadly. I also got sucked into the KZbinr mamiya 7ii hype. Borrowed one for a week from a friend for trip. I did not like it. I found myself wishing I would have brought my rolleiflex 2.8f instead. Hey Matt! I have a few Nikon F4s cameras. I love the size and how dense they are. Of course I can't get over the single focus point, thank god there is focus and recompose. What I also have is the Contax N1 film camera. I think it was their last film camera that was made in conjunction with Contax's first and only digital that didn't work that well. For the N1 you can get a mount adapter called the NAM-1 which allows you to adapt all the Contax 645 lenses. I did this with their f4 120mm macro and the f2.8 45mm. I love both lenses. I shoot aperture priority and let meter do its job. Both the F4s and the N1 have great meters.

Having now tried loads of cameras, lenses and software over many decades I can categorically say that there is absolutely no substitute for sensor size. That is the one thing that really makes a difference. Obviously lenses also have a huge impact on the final result but for the pics that you like Matt you really should try (if you haven't already) the Fujifilm GFX 50S. You'll love the images. Use the native GF lenses as they are the best and don't go for the S2 cos they removed the top dials which you'll appreciate. Stunning images which you'll fall in love with. The sensor (same as in the Hasselblad x2d) creates images with a real presence. Fantastic.

I’m always amused when I hear the term “this camera takes beautiful photos”, because the camera itself is just a light tight box.. the photographer’s eye for composition and knowledge of exposure techniques are, in my opinion, the most important factors in image “quality”. Of course the lens characteristics are very important too. I’ve seen some amazing images created with simple, “cheap” cameras. That said, I love each of these cameras on your lists! Thank you!

Although some might not agree, the Fuji GF670 to me is SO much better than either the Mamiya 6 or Mamiya 7, not that either of those cameras are slouches. (I’ve used both and they are terrific.) Yes, the GF670 is an 80mm f/3.5 fixed lens camera, but most people use the 80mm on their Mamiya 7 or the 75mm on their Mamiya 6 as their main lens anyway. Yes, the GF670 is more on the fragile side, but then again, so are most cameras including both the Mamiya 6 & 7, which I find scratch up easily.

For all of those who don't like to go with what everybody elects as a must have, and appreciate a lot all those underdogs that can give us almost or exactly the same as the holly cows of the mainstream, I leave a few suggestions: On medium format, were the most praised cameras are Rollei, Zeiss and Mamiya, I suggest the Yashica Mat 124, a good example give us excellent contrast and sharpness. Or, if size and compactness matter, the NKK Wester Autorol, a beautiful made folder 6×6. On rangefinders, as an alternative to the various Leicas M, the Canon 7s, smoth usability, large and clear viewfinder, and 4 frame lines, and to the Barnack Leicas, the Leotax F, beautifully made. On modern auto focus SLR, the Nikon F4, or the Minolta Maxxum/Dynax/Alpha 7, all the features we can think in a pre-digital era, but with the best classical interface we could wish. And also the Nikon F100. On SLR, the Leica R models are superb cameras. Yes, they have the Minolta roots, but they don't feel the same. In fact, they really have a better Leica feeling and, most of all, access to the excellent Leica glass of the R prime lenses. Also, the Olympus OM one digit series. Recently, I was looking for the right travelling digital camera, a light compact all in one swiss knife, and went for the Leica D-Lux 7, and I can only highly recommend this model. Very good interface and handling, excellent lens and image processor. I compared it to the sibling Lumix, and the same shot, took at the very same moment, look very different. All this cameras give us full results for a fraction of the cost of the praised ones. Matt, thanks for another very entertaining video and all the best

Thank you for this enjoyable video. In some ways, we live in a very blessed age as while some film cameras have become quite expensive (although to my mind still worth it), there are a vast number of wonderful film cameras and lenses which can be purchased very inexpensively. Although, yes, a drag film is so expensive. Your Hasselblad H portraits at the end were particularly nice.

Thank you! Yes I feel I get great portraits from the H setup. (Tonight’s video is one example of a bargain camera!)

Olympus OM-1n was my first proper camera and have rediscovered using it again in recent years with OM-2n & 4ti. Would love to see photos and video from OM cameras if you are interested in doing one 👍🏻

The Canon New F-1 is a better Camera than Nikon F3 !!! I agree that M2 is better than M3 (though I do not like rangefinder cameras). But no new Cameras ?? My top 3 (of both old and new Cameras !) would be in alphabetic order Fuji GFX 100 II, Hasselblad X2D and Sony A7RV. Of old Cameras #1 are Hasselblad 200/2000 series, #2 Canon New F-1 and a lot of "#3" Cameras.

Thanks! I know some people like the New F-1 but it didn't get enough votes for the top 10. I only covered film cameras in this one.

@borne-MrLeicaCom The Nikon F2 is a better Camera than the Nikon F3, there are a lot of "Nikonians" that either do not know the Canon New F-1 or they will not accept that it is better than Nikon and since you have not had any Canon New F-1 content, then the voters of it is missing 😇 (I have both Canon New F-1 and Nikon F3, so I know both Cameras very well !).

Don’t think the M6 deserves a top 10 due to the lower quality parts plastic bits and zinc top plate. Top 3 are interchangeable: 3. M2 / M-A 2. FM3A 1. MP

Thanks yes for me M3/M2 are top for M cameras (but i've not owned the MA/MP) FM3a is great.

I use a Nikon Df as my to-go favorite camera. Coupled with small AF-D prime lenses, the shared D4 sensor gives me incredible images wrapped in a lightweight body. Its a sublime experience.

For film I pick Leica M5 , most peoples don’t used it ,and don’t know it . Try M5 then you will love it , more accurate , true Leica built ( better built than all the later M cameras ) better , bigger viewfinder , clearer and accurate light meter ( spot light meter instead of centre weight / general ) not heavy as peoples say .
