Excellent video Jac. This video is in no way "corny." We golfers spend thousands of dollars on clubs, balls and equipment. We spends countless hours practicing on the range, taking lessons, watching lessons of KZbin. But we spend mere minutes on our mental fitness, at least i do. That is why i am so glad i watched your video. I am going to save this video and watch it over and over. I mostly will buy the book you quoted. My homework assignment for this week (playing 3 rounds) is visualization each shot. Just take that extra second and visual the shot. I will also bring my best friend in my head. Every shot i take my best friend will be an encouragement no matter how great or bad the shot is. Thank you very much for sharing this video. No matter what my scores is this week I will love this game. Cheers.

100% agree with you. On the tee box ready to go and any doubt in you're mind just stop walk behind the ball think positive about the shot and yes more than likely you will hit a great shot

I was just searching for some Bob Rotella thoughts before going out this morning and watched your video. I’ve listened to most of bobs audiobooks but was good to see someone more relatable taking about it too. My biggest downfall is my mentality. One week getting it sub par the next week +10 and feeling the worlds ended. Going to go out and enjoy it today regardless now 😁

Good advice. If you go out there thinking your going to play horrible it becomes reality. I always feel positive about it. Each time out is a chance to improve or do something great out there. If I play a rough hole I forget it and move onto the next. And if you want to make good things happen out there you need to practice too. Solid practices make me more confident out there. I have too many friends that think practicing putting and chipping is boring. Work hard and stay focused and positive. Spider Dubiel

Fantastic video. I’m off 0 but my mental game is still poor. I always want results and worry about shooting a high score cos people expect me to play well every game but i don’t. I need to stop caring too much as the +2’s don’t care and just hit it

"Play to play great." I feel like adding that pressure will force some bad swings, as well as bring you down more when you do hit a bad shot. That's been the case for me. Many days I've gone out there wanting personal bests and had rough days. Other days I went out with a good attitude just to enjoy my day regardless of outcome and did really well.

I guess my most recent problem is I videoed my swing and I hate it. I am stuck at around a 13 handicap and I can’t seem to make any headway. I took some good lessons and made some adjustments and went from about a 21 to where I am now. But, sometimes I feel like I need to break down my entire swing and start over. But, in reality, I think I just need to find a way to slow my swing down and accept much lower distances, in favour of better accuracy. I’m also willing to bet that I’m not alone.

I also have become almost paralysed/debilitated to even swing a club. I have warmed up on the range prior to my round hitting all clubs lovely only to tee off and become completely incompetent in getting off the tee. I don’t even feel like I know how to take it away and feel completely broken in the moment. How can I go about fixing this? It mainly happens when I want to play well.
@JakLeeGolf4 жыл бұрын
Steve I'm so sorry I've only just come across this comment! Are you still experiencing this? If so, here's what to do... play 9 holes on your own, don't take a practice swing, step up to every shot and just hit it, have a total disregard of the outcome, just hit shots

I feel this hard at 5-7 handicap. Video'd my swing when I felt like I was swing it well, yeah impact position was closer to a weekend hacker who shoots in the 100s than to a pro. Thing is, when you've learned to kind of get by with some bad habits. They become much harder to break. I've managed to chip away some of them by hitting lots and lots of balls with little abbreviated swings that emphasize the motions I'm trying to install. And NEVER take a break to hit a ball like you normally would. For me, I can't get the full hip turn and forward hands at impact. I've gotten better recently, one specific tip I can credit is Ben Hogan's "fastest point in the swing" - I realized that my swing speed was peaking out about 2 ft before impact, then slowing down (could feel it, and see it in the shaft bend in slo mo). Making sure the highest point of acceleration actually happens AFTER impact has been a game changer.

Very rare that you should start over, sounds like you're doing great. Use stats to really analyse what you could improve on now
