Tbf to your customers, I always have the Kirkland MF towels in the trunk of my M3. They’re frequently dirty. But those are the towels that NEVER touch my paint. Towels for paint are in hard sided plastic bins

Recently subscribed to STATUS DETAIL. Great content. Between your channel and AMMO NYC I'm learning a lot. Retirement coming up and I'm thinking of switching gears and creating a small home based/basic car detail business. My goal is to keep it somewhat basic and offering customers a simple approach for keeping their vehicles in good shape in between major single day or multi day 'restorations'. The 10 tips in this are very helpful to any car/vehicle owner. Although I'm careful when I enter a car, I will modify my approach based on your recommendation. My only comment would be regarding door closure...a light touch on the door handle to close the door works for me. I cringe every time someone slams a car door or trunk lid shut! My spouse and daughter also drive the car I primarily use...your comments on steering wheels and hand lotion (and simple hand grime) are much appreciated. I do my best to keep my car clean and running the way it should...but it's a struggle and keeps me busy! Thanks again. JV.

Amazing video! I see lots of folks whining about how they wish you were in their state lol, what should the viewers from Europe like me say :D Anyways, it's really hard to find a good detailer that is tolerant to customers which care about their car more than the average person. I've gotten couple of "if you take care of your car why did you come here" or "you have no idea how to do this job, just come to me on weekly basis or stop coming" comments. Keep up the good work!

All the same stuff really. Try to avoid parking under trees especially at your primary parking spot. Tree gunk will definitely mess your paint up. Do your best to get a good wash in once a week or every other week

Thanks for the Video i have a question about ceramic coating i never saw a coated car in person how would you compare the gloss to wax becuase i saw waxed cars a lot and i also waxed cars by myself. How would you describe the gloss of a ceramic coating?
@STATUSDETAIL
@STATUSDETAIL 3 жыл бұрын
Great question! Ceramic offers more gloss than wax. It can really deepen the gloss or depth of the paint especially on certain colors. Every customer that picks up a car that's been ceramic coated always says wow its never looked that shiny! So it truly adds a layer of gloss your not use too

You talked about avoiding rock chips on the front of the car by keeping your distance, which is great advice. But what is the solution to rock chips kicked up behind your own wheels? Do you recommend PPF behind the wheels? Or is there something else you'd recommend. Love your channel! Thanks!
@STATUSDETAIL
@STATUSDETAIL Жыл бұрын
I have seen some Porsches with really subtle black rubber like mud guards but that's not the right way to describe it. But they definitely helped a lot. Outside of that your best option for paint protection would be PPF.

Love your content, I think this is like my 3rd comment today alone lol. Question for you... I live in DC and unfortunately don't have a garage to park in. My car is coated with Q2 Mohs and I perform weekly, sometimes bi-weekly maintenance washes. How would you maintain a coated car that can't be garaged? Are there any special things you'd do in preparation for winter? Thanks!
@STATUSDETAIL
@STATUSDETAIL 2 жыл бұрын
Love it! Thanks for watching all my videos 😀 Awesome question... I should do a video on this lol. Routine maintenance like you are doing is very helpful and having a coating on the car is great too. I love mohs btw that was a coating I used years ago and it's always been a really good coating to me. I'm assuming you are using some gyeon products for maintenance based on the gyeon ceramic. So use good high end products and avoid the easy easy out. Meaning don't do a spinning brush auto wash one week because you can't get the time to do it right. It's always ok to not wash for a week or many weeks. Very little happens to the car if it's dirty and left dirty. But washing wrong even one time can cause swirls and scratchs. In winter I usually wash a little less often and every wash Indo I apply wetcoat to literally everything on outside. Even spray into the fenders and suspension. It's a great strong sacrificial layer of protection in winter. Also vacuum the carpets out as often as possible. Winter usually is when your carpets see the most dirt. Be sure to really rinse and clean door jams too! We don't want salt sitting in places like this. Hope that helps!

@@STATUSDETAIL Thanks for the reply! A video on this would be awesome! I recently bought the car with the coating pre-applied, it seems to be in good condition, but I am learning the ropes as a newb. I have only maintained it with Gyeon products (Foam, Bathe, Restart Wash, Bug&Grime, Iron, Tire, WetCoat, Cure, and a ton of the interior products) so I am fully Gyeonized other than a disobedient dealer that sent it through their wash once. I love that WetCoat tip and am definitely a huge fan of the product already. My car's a W204 C63, so probably won't drive it much in the winter. Will also probably do can coat at some point. Thanks again for all the tips.
@STATUSDETAIL
@STATUSDETAIL 2 жыл бұрын
@@TimetoWatch247 awesome. Love that AMG and love the product line up you are using. You have a great system in place for car care. Also consider gyeon wax. It's impossible to put on wrong and can't high spot. Cancoat is good too but can high spot if your unfamiliar with coatings. I'd honestly probably recommend topping it with gtechniq EXO over cancoat Because they both carry the Same install risks but exo is a better product. I don't actually sell cancoat primarily for that reason. Exo is pretty easy to put on and beads water like crazy. Gyeon wax is pretty good value because you get multiple applications per bottle. Everything mentioned is available on statusdetailstore.com keep the questions coming 🙂

@@STATUSDETAIL NA V8s are a dying breed, had to lock one down while I had the chance haha. Great to hear you like the products I'm using. I will 100% look into Gyeon Wax as well as EXO. Didn't realize those downsides to Cancoat, very interesting to learn. I definitely don't want to mess up my existing coating trying to be fancy. Next time I need to restock I will order from you my friend!
@STATUSDETAIL
@STATUSDETAIL 2 жыл бұрын
@@TimetoWatch247 definitely understand the V8 love. I love my V8 s6 lol. If you have zero experience with coatings then Gyeon wax might be the best starting place. It is a ceramic wax with Fluorine infused into it. Gyeon booster was fluorine based too but discontinued and basically replaced with Gyeon wax. Exo is amazing but watch a bunch of videos and tips in install because that is real ceramic meaning if you remove it wrong you can get high spots. It does have a long work time tho so if you are really focused on it you get a lot of time to catch anything and wipe it away. My video on the gt3 Touring talks about exo install!

About entry, when you're older you can't do the one foot in holding the steering wheel. Only choice is two feet outside. We do this in our Porsches with a towel on the seat bottom.

agree with everything but the avoiding the rock chips part, in european winter they throw tons of small rocks onto the roads due to icy roads. you get at least one rock chip per day. roads arent even cleaned in summer so you basically get a million rockchips driving here. ppf is the only way to go

I agree 100% about PPF. Its WAY too expensive and as you said you can still get rock chips with PPF and then cost doubles. Most idiots tailgate too much. Also, rock chips are way worse following any size truck. Also saves your windshield. Great overall advice. Wish you guys were in NJ. My car needs a place like status.

I'm a hobby detailer with 2 kids, they have been taught how to treat a car, like not dragging feet over the sills, only touching the handle to close the door and many other issues. Why not instruct your kids? Super easy! So many other families have kids who have destroyed cars, quite crazy with regards to how much money we spend on them. I use self washes but take my own soaps and mitts, i just use the high pressure water (illegal to wash your car in the driveway at home in Sweden). I have had some negative comments from people at these car washes, after drying i just say, "looks like a new car right?". I then ask, "would you wash yourself with that broom?".

Rock chips can happen with a car and a lorry in front of you and the lorry flicks up the stone pas the car behind it and on your car so I don’t know where this analogy of rock chips come from by leaving distance they occur just get paint protection film so every time you wash your car you don’t say another fking one 🤦‍♂️ the arches come with paint protection film from factory but they get peppered I should of got ppf done on the full panel but it’s a lot of money, regards to seeing the difference in colour I see none and nor does anyone else as it ages it might on the seems Iv had mine on for a couple of years or so and the seams pick up dirt only noticeable to you as you wash it, I plan on keeping my car forever I’m not one of those that need the next best thing I do wish i ppf the full car, it is brilliant stuff and a true barrier that self heals, can it stop all chips it has on mine but I know it wouldn’t stop a big stone or a brick everything has limitations just so happens ppf is the highest limitation available today

What's your point about the Rock chip and truck? Just to comment that everyone should be afraid of the one in a million magic chip from 3000 feet away that bounces and curves around 3 cars? That's not how most chips happen lol. PPF can be helpful but this video wasn't geared towards people spending thousands to keep a car perfect. It's geared towards everyone. Just things you can do to help the car stat looking good.
