Out of his 5 pokémon, two of them are dark types (if you count mega-Gyarados), and in Ultra Moon, he even uses Yveltal (Xerneas in Ultra Sun). In fact, looking it up, the entire team is just a mixed bag of type combinations: posion, dark, fire, etc. I tend to consider Rocket as the 'poison team' with their focus on Ekans and Koffing, etc. but they also use Magnemites among other 'mons. Team Magma, despite being the 'ground team' also dabble in poison and dark types (Gulpin/Swallot and Poochyena/Mightyena respectfully), so a team's association to a specific type is all rather loose labelling.

I would guess that the ice gym is usually in the latter half of the game because the icy areas (and ice mons) are often one of the last areas you get to. Not sure WHY they put the ice mons closer to the end though. would be cool to start in an ice area instead of a grassy plain area for once.

Ice types being a late-game thing made sense in gen 1, when it was the dragon-killer against Lance's Dragonite and the ice-type was super rare and special with Lorelei being an elite 4 specializing in it (just like how Agatha and Lance specialized in two super rare types). Ice Types in gen 1 also had the broken gen 1 Blizzard, fire didn't resist it, and out of the 5 ice mons, 1 was legendary with the stats to match, one was the fast Jynx with the broken Psychic type, and the other 3 had the defensively strong water type paired with the ice type. It only really fell apart later when ice types weren't as favoured as gen 1 but gamefreak insists on continuing with "traditions" like the late ice-type availability and gym.

@@youtube-kit9450 Yeah, since the introduction of the fairy type ice has lost its original niche of being the counter to the late game pseudolegendary dragons. The other types it counters are usually earlier ones. I guess the only thing still holding it back from being an early game type are the higher evolution levels they generally have

The complaint about Ice types.. you know what would have been a fun idea? If SV had level scaling.. like they advertised the ability to do gyms in any order so I went out of my way to confront Grusha early, like second gym early when my team was still weak... was sorely disappointed.. but at least I had the fly points unlocked for later lol Like legit Ice type having one of the *starters* be their weakness will always mean they are not gonna be a good show for their typing since even if you don't choose the fire starter, an average player will have that core I would think since they've been offering those types lot more Katy.. another who imo "suffered" from no scaling.. like I wanted to fight her last because the flavor text said "Trainers typically go after her first because of proximity to Mesagoza" so I was like "okay let's at least see what a late game bug type gym could be" and.. yeah obviously after Grusha I knew she wasn't gonna change.. but legit did her last out of spite lol I think I just salty they said "fight gyms in any order" without following through on what that would imply.. like if they didn't tell us that little blurb, most of us would just do what they wanted anyways, linearly fight the gyms and titans and star bases... and maybe have the info come out "hey they all are available.. but they still are at their intended order" would totally have made people be like "weird but okay whatever" Another thing that they said before release was like "do any story in any order" and saying there were 3 stories.. which implies, at least to me, that you don't *have* to beat all the Team Star bases if you don't want to.. I was tempted to ignore them and just focus on Gyms, but after my Grusha incident I realized the bases won't scale and also that.. the game is same formula of "do gyms with random fights with 'evil team' and lore between them" like all they did was split lore and team up, giving lore to Arven and making you do *another* in-between activity... Wait LET'S GO REMOVED ABILTIES?! WHAT THE FUCK?!
@austingordon3709 Жыл бұрын
Let’s Go also removed all hold items outside of Mega Stones. Yet you don’t get access to Mega Evolution until AFTER THE 8TH F*CKING GYM! Also the total amount of Pokémon in Let’s Go is less than half of Sword/Shield’s base roster even if you include Alolan forms & Melmetal. Let’s Go is also the first mainline Pokémon game with forced EXP Share, not Sword/Shield.

Wulfric is actually gym 8. I mean, you are a littly harsh on Katy, considering you can get the same counters for Brassius, who isn't even on the list. Yeah, you can say: But Sudowoodo has Rock moves, countering Flying and Fire, but then again: You can get Paldean Wooper and Flamigo early on, both who are neutral against Rock type moves.

Not sure how the generation that had a high amount of Fighting and Fire types thought that Ice would be a challenging final gym.

In the 9th entry, you forgot to mention the ice gym leader in SwSh…albeit you battle it kinda late like the others. And it was kinda tough.
@329link Жыл бұрын
The ice trainers being so late may actually be a theming thing. Ice is often only seen consistently in nature where there's typically pretty harsh conditions, and coming across an ice themed location so early might seem... off, at least for pokemon. Not that I think it couldn't work (just go with a more gentle snowfall instead of harsh blizzards and put the starting town in the north for once, or maybe base the region off canada or russia), but game freak kinda tends to be a one trick pony when it comes to environments. They don't often stray from exactly what you'd expect. Another possibility is it's because ice types are among the more rare types for some reason (probably theming again), and are usually found later in the games. Hell, if I remember right, the first place you could get a proper ice type in gen 1 was right before blaine!

I've always said that about the ice type. You need ice type early on and move bug type towards the end.

Why would you want a weak type like bug at the end?
@otowndude08 Жыл бұрын
@@youtube-kit9450 bug type is weak but it pairs well with other types, such as bug and steel which as only 1 weakness or bug and water with 3. Being early in the game, you don't really get to use type combos bc most early stage bug pokemon are single type.
