My favorite maintenance cost in Yugioh has to be “Messenger of peace”. This old continues spell restricts monsters with more than 1500atk from attacking. But some guy at Konami has had to have thought that it was too broken, so they gave it a maintenance cost. Which is to pay 100lp every standby phase. They thought that this would be such a hard cost that people would reconsider even wanting to risk running this card.

Destructive Draw seems like a top contender for that list, since its +1 draw effect is not limited to just the owner, you can't choose not to pay its cost, and it'll cost you 3000 LP to remove.

While it's not as easy to give to your opponent, Ido The Supreme Magical Force or Last Warrior will prevent opponent from summoning any monsters so all you'll need to do then is stop him from attacking and they'll need dark hole or some rarely used archetype specific card to be able to play

Speaking of giving Acid Golem to the opponent, that’s actually how it was used in the anime. Kite summoned it and Shark used a trap to steal the monster (which is what Kite wanted him to do), but Kite used a trap to remove all of Golem’s overlay units, which ultimately caused Shark to lose as he had no ways out of the lock.

Then play Necroface at 3 to get banished cards back in the deck and not deck out

@@gracefulcharity8412 In Duel Links we had a skill call "Life Cost 0". That, when your LP are 1000 or lower, for the rest of the turn, you do not need pay LP for card effects. And the thing is that Cyberstein already exist in DL and it was an unlimited card. So you low your LP to 1000 o lower, summon Cyberstein, with Cyberstein summon Gatling Dragon 3 TIMES to nuke the entire board of your opponent and then attack directly with Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon. It was so powerful, that Konami nerfed the skill to only use the skill one time to only one card effect, in orden to kill this degenerate strategy.

There's a lot of things Skill Drain doesn't negate: * You can only control 1 CARDNAME * If this card is used as Synchro Material, the other Synchro materials are... * Maintenance costs (as you mentioned) * Anything before the colon or semicolon in an activated effect * Effects that make the monster using them leave the field as a cost * Being a Tuner * Lingering effects in general

Banished Face down means that there is essentially no way to interact with them, even with cards that can normally affect banished cards. So the 10 cards are random and you have absolutely no way to use them in any fashion except in Maju and Eater of Millions Decks, and this card is still considered usable in most decks. That's how powerful draw 2 is.

I mean it makes sense if your deck isn't based on some combo you can accidentally mill. Any instant effect you draw you can instantly play, so card advantage is everything. But if you could choose which cards to banish, then it'd be a huge upside. More draw consistency means you get to the cards that win you the game. As a Hearthstone player, almost literally any HS deck would pay a premium to choose ten cards to erase from their deck, not that the UI in that game would allow it.

i personally have a Fortune Lady deck in Duel Links and i haven't seen that continous trap card in a single FL decklist: you can do much better things with her resurrection effect, like using her as a synchro material when you have 2 out of 3 zones already occupied and special summon her again during the end phase (this tactic would be perfect for Cristal wing, but i guess we have to wait quite a lot for him to come to Duel Links).

10:15 it did see some play back during chaos era. Sinister serpent was legal, sending a sangan or witch wasn't bad either. Most of the time they would tribute a scapegoat. It may seem worse than wobuku, but being a continuous trap vs a one off means you have more cars advantage. Plus you can always not tribute and get rid of it.

It seems very strange that they would specify that destructive draw sets your life points to zero instead of destroying itself. As if you are under 700 life points you would die anyway if it destroyed itself because it is being removed from the field right? Seems to make very little difference to actual gameplay unless you have something that reverses or prevents effect damage

What stopping your opponent from sacrificing acid golem? Cause turpitude dosnt count as Ss Summoning so it easy to get out of that lock?

Armor Exe is a Golem that's why it has the spellcounter thing

You can just cheat out whatever spirit monsters you want with dimensionhole or future visions. Most spirit monsters can’t be special summoned, but both cards I mentioned DONT say to special summon. They just say to return the monster or banish it until the next standby phase. I should see about D Hero Doom Lord or the black dragon ninja, but those might say to special summon the selected monsters. If the do, though, that means you can stop the special summon with something like vanity’s fiend.

The number one is actually only meant to be used as material for rank 10 monsters, usually in train decks.

In rocket arrow express’s defence, it’s supposed to be use as xyz material for monsters like gustav max, not for battle. The idea of it is doing what Anna did if you get it in your starting hand. Summon it, refuse the maintenance cost and destroy it and then bring it back using that schedule spell card when you have another level 10.

I feel like acid golem is just a newer xyz version of lava golem, you'd only use it to force it on you opponent

I play a very good spell counter deck in GX Duel Academy and I don't even use Armor Exe there; less because of the maintenance and more because it takes an entire turn to attack something when the reason I'd use it is to instantly remove something like Jinzo. If its effect was to use 2 spell counters at the beginning of a battle phase and actually get to attack, it would have been so much better, especially since Witch can get it from the deck

In Duel Links, although bricky and not at all any good, you can put Spiritual Energy Settle Machine in a Exodia Incarnate deck since Incarnate's effect to add an Exodia piece from the GY to your hand will resolve first before you pay the cost of Spiritual Energy Settle Machine.

Aside from Rocket Arrow Express and Armor Exe's Standby Phase costs, there is a way around most other Standby Phase costs. There's an old card called Solomon's Lawbook. All it does is make you skip your next Standby Phase. No Standby Phase, no maintenance cost.

My favorite lp cost card (not maintenance), is Vampire Baroness (iirc her name correctly). When something attacks you can special summon her in defense position. If a monster battles a vampire, you can pay in parts of 100lp up 3k and have that monster gain that much atk points. It’s not once per turn and if you have 2 copies on the field you can gain 6k atk points just from the monsters and not including any other modifiers, and vampires got that continuous spell where they convert damage into live gain.

There's also Yubel to consider, cool card and she has gotten better support recently, but before then her effects shot her in the foot. Her maintenance cost is that she needs a monster tribute to stick around or she destroys herself, not the first time we've seen this effect. The problem with her is that the creative team botched her main ability to reflect the damage done to her onto your opponent, in the anime this effect triggered whenever she battled, but in the real-world her effect triggered only when she is attacked. So, the problem with Yubel is that your opponent would just not attack Yubel, leaving you with just a maintenance cost. What's worse was that she had the ability to evolve into her next form if destroyed, but the creative team caught this and ruled that she can't evolve by destroying herself. Things have changed now for Yubel, from what I've seen in some thumbnails she's actually become a bit infamous, but back then she was pretty worthless.

I have an online amorphage deck and the reason for the specific effect is it is supposed to be summoned, or it can counter an entire deck if your opponent uses a burn deck as a nice tech option.

Acid Golem and Armor Exe make good fusion material for Evil Hero Dark Gaia. Granted, with Acid Golem, you need to either negate its effect somehow, or get it in the graveyard and use Dark Calling, but they can both provide a pretty strong dark fusion monster.

number 30 actually was quite good. It was a high attack rank 3 that was easy to summon. That made it a good battering ram. The effect around xyz material isn't a big deal since that takes 2 turns. If that time you have either gained such a big advantage that you will win even with acid golem being unable to attack or your opponent has already destroyed it.

Something I didnt quite realize with arrow express is that it doesnt actually make you pay the maintnance cost, you can just let it be destroyed to set up your grave with a big level 10 5k beater you can use to extend in trains after potentially stalling a turn with something most decks cant beat over. Obviously not a very sound strategy especially now days but has its weird use case I suppose

Rocket arrow express requires you to send 5 cards from your hand to the GY, not your whole hand. This makes it even worse, as you can't even realistically pay the maintenance cost after 1 turn.

Rocket arrow express - while yes absolutely bad - was specifically designed to be overlaid away with other trains for a rank 10 train play. Also I didn't see anywhere on the card that you couldn't activate other card effects, just that you couldn't set them. One of my favorite things to do with trains is use cards like axe of fools, skill drain, and forbidden chalice (I think that's the right quick play, that whole spell group is easy to mix up) to negate their bad effects and turn them into beatsticks, while having those same cards available to utilize to negate my opponents monster effects.

One maintenance card I personally hated, was Mask of Brutality. Since it was an equip card that increases the monster's attack by 1000, and decreases its defense by the same amount. BUT, you have to pay 1000 LP during each of your standby phases to use it.

If you have a way of switching effect damage to your life points to your opponent, golden castle would also work great with grave keepers retribution

I kinda wouldn't mind playing around with destructive draw in Duel Links D/Ds. Thanks to the wording of the 3k burn, D'arc would counteract it, and that deck does a lot of lifepoint management.

I use the number 30 on my Phantom Knights deck as a Cide Deck option along with crature swap. I've lost count of how many times I've won with this combo, it's a card that I really like, both by art and combo, but I agree that it is on the list, after all, its cost is pretty bad, but I still use it

You can also normal summon night express knight the same turn you special summon rocket arrow express and go into a rank 10. Another fun trick was to just summon rocket arrow, and sit on it, against a slower deck they would probably just set up their field and pass turn back to you. you could then just... not pay the maintenance cost and let it die, basically stalling for a turn without having to commit anything to the board. Not really viable now. but it was fun when it worked.
