There's a difference between bad parents and absent parents. Gon's dad definitely wouldn't win father of the year, but he gave his son a caring home to grow up in because he didn't have the capacity to do it himself. That's like saying people who put their children up for adoption are bad parents. He never did anything to harm Gon. Then Ms. Ketchum...? She loves and worries about her son all the time, and raised him as a single parent for 10 years. Neither of them belong on a list of people that torture or try to kill their offspring.

Actually, in both FMA and Brotherhood, Hohenheim didn't want his children to find out about his body. In FMA, he didn't want them finding about his body rotting. In FMA Brotherhood, he didn't want them finding out about him being a philosopher's stone and unable to age. At the same time though, he wanted to start countering the homunculi's plans which would prevent all of Amestris from dying. Depending on the way you look at it, you can understand his intentions in both series. I think because of that, he wasn't on this list. And then again, it might be 1 per franchise and you know what, Shou Tucker deserves number 1 infinitely more than Hohenheim.

Flaws in this list. 1) Delma Ketchum is actually a great mother, and shows a lot of concern for her child. The only reason she doesn't do anything is because she doesn't want to be a hinder. 2) James's parents would have been a better choice. 3) Gambino did technically adopt Guts, so he could have applied for this list. 4) A lot of characters who should have been on this list didn't make it. Ash's mom just happens to have a parenting style that is not that uncommon in Japan. There it's still rather ok to let kids go by themselves to the kindergarten and ask for random grown ups for help because it's still relatively safe. Also, it is believed that letting kids go by themselves is good to develop confidence, social skills, and problem-solving skills.

I can think of a couple equally bad or even worse. In mangas if not in anime, at least. There's one in Sun Ken Rock and a couple ones in Berserk that are basically on par. Lordgenome isn't half bad as well. And there's one in Made in Abyss that is arguably worse than all of them. Yes, INCLUDING SHOU TUCKER. It's not that uncommon to find parents in manga and anime that abuse, torture, try to kill or even rape their own children.

@@Shendue Try Sanji's dad, he locked him up in prison and when Sanji escaped, his dad told him to never EVER say he (Judge) was his dad, because that was a shame he could not bear and he also said the only reason Sanji was still alive was because he (Judge) was human after all, since he couldn't kill his own flesh and blood. Counting adoptive parents and not in any particular order: 1) Mito - Hunter x Hunter --> cares for Gon when his own father doesn't. 2) Inko Midoriya - Boku no Hero Academia --> supports her son's geekiness. 3) Sachiko Fujinuma - Erased --> Literally saves her son from being attacked by a crazy person, helps her son save someone else, takes care of her son when he is left in a coma (if I were ranking these, she'd be right at the top) 4) Renton and Eureka - Eureka 7 --> adopt children from a war-torn zone and raise them as their own. 5) Kazuyuki and Nobuko Izumi - Parasyte --> pretty normal parents, for once. Support their son. 6)Spirit Albarn - Soul Eater --> I see he was a mention in this video. OK, he's not a perfect dad but he loves his daughter and only wants what's best for her so he makes my list. 7) Kirito and Asuna - Sword Art Online --> willing to code their digital daughter into existence. 8)Ryouko Fueguchi - Tokyo Ghoul --> Saves her daughter from being shish-kebab'd. 9)Dr Brief + Mrs Brief - DBZ --> Support their daughter on her adventures. 10) "Ranka" Fujioka - Ouran High School Host Club. --> Accepts his/her daughter no matter what, loving and protective toward his/her daughter. Making this list I now understand what watchmojo has to do every week...gee whiz it was hard to find an anime with good parents in it who actually had some meaningful time in the show :|

Disagree with two: Satoshi's mother and Ging. Satoshi's mother is just acting what any mother or parent should be doing, letting their children fly off the coop (only this case, earlier). Don't agree? Ask any child in America who grew up in the 50s (or so) what their parents told them to do after coming home from school. On Ging's case, at least he was honest about his inability to be a father. But he does have faith that his son was truly his son. Meaning he is not too weak to never be able to find him. Plus, he built Greed Island to train Gon (or maybe just as well, brag about it hahaha). :)

Ananya Mukherjee My rebuttal is, with his foresight he should know that the typical life of a jinjuuriki is hard. He subjected naruto to being the host of the nine tails without any proof that he could handle it, he wasnt around long enough to see naruto develop a personality and that part isnt his fault, but he has no basis for faith. If it were anyone elses kid, everyone in the world would still be scared of jinjuurikis and hes lucky naruto didnt turn out like gaara. Foresight can only go so far until its just being reckless.
