No one will ever fully agree on a list of even the top 1000 albums but I do think the fact that this list is the result of tens of thousands of music fans voting on albums they love gives it some level of weight and credibility that a list from say, Rolling Stone or Pitchfork will never have.
@xbenci Жыл бұрын
while true, most people voting here are very clearly influenced by, for example, Rolling Stone or Pitchfork. the top 40 is still terribly reeking of Rolling Stone core album picks. thankfully, as time goes by, the site seems to be getting more and more younger users, which are making genres like hip hop and electronic music get their deserved recognition on the charts

@David-bh6ce Жыл бұрын
@NIAAGGR567 technically music is subjective since ppl react to it in different ways according to the emotions and experiences they’ve had and how that music resonates to them but yeah I agree there are some aspects that are objective, although id say that philosophically speaking the more objective you try to define music the less creative it gets but that’s just some food for thought

@@WhiteAssassion677 and yet some ppl enjoy lil pump more than Pink Floyd, how would you explain that? Is there something wrong in that? No cuz there is no right or wrong in music. Maybe you can define that guy as having cheap music taste or whatever but you can showcase an artistic merit over anything pretty much and I’ll say it again that there is some objectivity to music but just like how you can listen to who dat boy by Tyler and love the aggression and punchiness of it other ppl won’t like those qualities and say it’s just noisy and yelling and whatever. I don’t care if you think “x is overrated” it’s not this guy’s opinion it’s based on thousands of other’s opinions it’s what the rating number is based off. This doesn’t mean your favorite album is “invalidated” it means that it’s probably either unheard of “low ratings” or people on the internet don’t like it. Bjork deserves two entries: one for Homogenic, and another for Vespertine. Ride The Lightning for best 1984 album is a tough call when you also had Prince's Purple Rain (it should've made it to the list rather than Sign O' The Times!). Radiohead does NOT deserve three entries among the very best (but Ok Computer surely does!). But, overall, it was still a solid list nonetheless.

I think this is a solid list, the albums concluded are the very best representation of each genre. Remember art/music is subjective and the list is based on votes of thousands people, so if your favorite album is listed at a low spot it doesn’t discredit how great it is it’s still in the top 100. A lot of you Rock fans are not satisfied with the list even though more than 30% of it are Rock (almost every sub genre) albums, I don’t understand why you’re upset, and disrespecting other genres is pretty lame, every genre is special in its own unique style so you can’t compare them or say “this” is better than “that”. So, don’t start shi**ing on electronic music or Hip Hop just because you’re upset with “To Pimp a Butterfly” getting #1 spot, why not go listen to it first, maybe you’ll get why a lot of people love it and voted for it. that album specifically is liked more by Jazz, Soul, and Rock fans, as a matter of fact hip hop fans didn’t like that album at first but now it’s arguably the best hip hop album of all time and depending on who you’re talking to it maybe considered the best body of work in music history. It’s just opinions and debates, at the end of the day like what you like and don’t disrespect what others like.
