Discovered cardamom only as an adult at an indian friend's house. They were having a huge feast, dozens of different dishes, and the feast ended with this wonderful yogurt which had a delicious and very distinctive taste and smell (to me) that I had never experienced. Had to ask what it was, and it was house made by their gradmother, just yogurt with cardamom, that was all. From my childhood I had never been exposed to food with Cardamom, so this was completely new to me, and just amazing. It took many years (in fact, more than a decade) till I later on tasted once again something similar. Some desert in a restaurant, not indian, but it immediately brought to mind the taste of that wonderful yogurt from that indian feast, just because it also had cardamom.

Cardamom is also prominent in the Norwegian Christmas baking that my mom did every year, so I grew up with it. Martha Stewart showed how to toast cardamom pods on her morning show years ago, and I incorporated it into my own baking.

Cardamom is one of my favorite spices for fall, and I always think of my family's favorite Norwegian dessert Krumkake. I'd love to find a fragrance that smells like freshly made Krumkake (which is sort of a waffle cone/cookie but with cardamom).

Love this note, especially in Gris Charnel & Remember Me. Also love it in the opening of Minuit et Demi with the pimiento. Didn't think I would at first but I grew to really like that combo. Great list as always

@Linnea Hi, I think Remember Me is a lot creamier, more like a creamy tea, especially as it dries down. I'm more of an enthusiast than an expert, but to me the 2 are pretty different. I'd say definitely worth a try! 😊

I was happy to see you mention YSL Nuit de L'Homme - I love, love, love that one on men! Of course you said you wanted to talk about kind of newer or less talked about Cardamom fragrances - But, I have to say three of the best out there (my favorites anyway) are Penhaligon's Bewitching Yasmine, Intoxicated by Kilian and of course Lune Feline...I love cardamom in fragrances. My favourite so far is Loubirouge. To me, that fragrance is not so much about vanilla, as it is about cardamom, combining with iris and woody notes and creating a spicy, powder and paper like texture. A different take on an oriental.

Also Jaipur Chai by Ineke which I discovered and bought because of you! 😍 Cardamom is one of my favourites notes so I have tested the majority from your list. Guerlain's Santal Pao Rosa opens with a cardamom bomb too but I struggle with rose. I would also add to the list: Rima XI by Carner Barcelona, Magenta Tanzanite from Armani and my beloved Atelier des Ors Lune Feline. Last week I sprayed 5 times (from a tester bottle) Sweetie Aoud on my arm and all I could smell was a ultra buttery croissant with a backbone of non animalic oud, the longevity and projection on me wasn't the best for that price; 3 hours and then a skin scent... I would never dare to spray that quantity of fragrance with Oud for Greatness on one arm🥵 I was expecting a bomb and it didn't work like that,.

I remember smelling the coffee in the streets of Jerusalem and it had this bewitching, entrancing spicy aroma. I think it must have been cardamom. I also put a dash of cardamom in my Irish soda bread--not too much or it will overwhelm it. I have La Nuit de l'Homme and it's also entrancing. My PROBLEM with it, though, is that I can never seem to find the day or occasion to wear it! Very frustrating because I really love its smell.

Cardamom shares the middle stage with Begium chocolate in Xerjoff's Symphonium. Wasn't a huge fan of cardamom before Symponium. A masterpiece in parfumery, and a great fall scent, by the way.

Sebastian I agree cardamom is Autumn it's a cool spice but it does have some warmth to it. Great spice and a great addition to Fragrances. I love some of your selections but don't know them all so must check out a few. And of course I love the Hermes your number 1. Great video nonetheless.

I stopped by the Arabian Oud shop when I was in Manhattan. They sprayed me with a fragrance called "KHAIYYAL." It smells like a much cleaner, more refined "African Leather." It is missing the cardamom but they added Pink pepper. Truly Exquisite. It is a new release from 2022; no fragrantica listing yet. Worth a smell if you travel near an Arabian Oud shop or find a decant online.

Covid left my nose ultra sensitive to cardamom and sandalwood, I detect the tiniest drop of their extracts in my fragrances and they'repretty much everything I can smell then. Thank goodness I enjoy both notes.

The cloying vanilla in L'Occitane Eaux des Beaux turned me violently off vanilla (and gourmand generally) in fragrances, but I hate being "doctrinaire". What you said about the Jo Malone fragrance tempts me to venture out of my anti-vanilla "shell." 😏 By the way, this is the second time in as many days that I've heard a rave review of Voyage d'Hermes Parfum. And the notes appeal to me hugely. So I'm all..."Hmmm...."

Please try Kahwa by Boadicea the Victorious, the most surreal cardamom scent with coffee. Kahwa means Coffee in arabic and this scent reflects Saudi coffee recipe. Great video and topic
