Anyone that loves hockey has to come to the Minnesota State High School Tournament at least once. In my opinion it is the best hockey experience in the world. I have been to many NHL games and NCAA games in my life. Nothing can compare to a tournament though. St. Paul is absolutely crazy that weekend with all the fan bases. The Xcel Energy Center is at max capacity for all the AA games. Tickets are harder to get each year it seems.

I played/coached for a house league in Phoenix, Arizona. I never played/coached outside of the state. Until 3 years ago, where I was giving a chance to coach in Minnesota for a season. I had a massive culture shock when getting there. The amount of resource available, time comment by people, and the support from the community was crazy. If we had just 5 % of that here, It would be a HUGE upgrade.

They stopped going to the Alaska Aces games, even though the Aces had successful teams throughout the years, winning 3 kelly cups. A combination of poor economy and losing interest due to people overall losing their attention span, they thought the team would always just "be there"...when it was announced that they were gonna fold and relocate, oooooh, then people all of a sudden started caring again, but by then, it was too late. They were fickle, and they paid the price for it.
@SRP3572
@SRP3572 6 жыл бұрын
Theres no way that an nhl team would work in alaska. The travel costs alone would be too much, topped with player salaries, team costs, staff salaries, and hockey fans in anchorage(which is where they would be based) are fickle as fuck. They let a successful echl team slip through their fingers and when it was too late to save the team, only then did they start caring again. So no, alaska isnt gonna get, and frankly doesnt deserve an nhl team

My childhood in a suburb of Minnesota: Age 3, Bauer Beaver skates on the pond across the street the Dad's shoveled. Age 6, first team play, outdoor rinks only, standing in a snow bank for a bench. Age, 10, squirts, first traveling league play going to tournaments all over the state. Age 14, Bantam, first international play besides Canada. Age 17, member of State Championship team, the hype, the glory, the legacy in the community and mobs of college programs at every game. Age 50-something looking back...any other hockey I played after high school was disappointing in a way I only get now. I guess it's about the love of the game and playing for and being supported by a community of people that were in my life for many years. Teammates, coaches, parents, classmates, local businesses, other players you meet at tournaments; it's all very rich and unrepeatable.

I did my part in Wichita Kansas. Along with two friends we founded a High School Hockey League. Although it was Inline Hockey; we had many players that played in Junior Ice. We choose Inline because it was more accessible and affordable to the average Joe. We had 15 area High Schools playing as a club sport. We tried hard to get the school district on board but they instead choose bowling. Had local news come out a couple times a year to show a little slice of the action. We had approximately 200 kids and several 100’s of parents and spectators filling the building a year for a run of six years. Can’t tell you how much fun and hard work it was; but it was worth it.

And yet I go to the 6th grade with 2,200 kids (6, 7, 8th grades) and there is only 1 other ice hockey player in my whole school. You are right about Pennsylvania. The rivalry between east and west borders on insane. I live in Pittsburgh and am a diehard Pens fan. Both my brothers live in the east and love the Flyers. We don't speak to each other during the season. We had a huge family brawl after a controversial ending to a Pens - Flyers game. This is common here in PA. Pennsylvania is still a football state but hockey is a strong second and gaining more participants and fans all the time.

2021 NCAA Hockey Tournament Frozen Four: 109 total roster players 40 players from states other than Minnesota. 6 from Michigan , 4 from Mass, and 4 from NY. No other state with more then 3, except.... 19 players from Canada, includes 9 from Ontario, 6 from Alberta 7 players from Europe, 3 are from Finland 43 players of 109 total are from Minnesota. 6 are from Hermantown HS (pop 9,400), Does seem to justify the number 1 ranking.

Them Northern cities really hit different. When the tournament comes on if South Saint Paul isn't in it which I mean they never are. I root for the northern cities Mike Hermantown

@@bradyomalley114 If the Twin Cities and all suburbs put together a single youth organization, like Little Ceasars is, nothing in Michigan or anywhere else in the US could touch it. But Minnesota is all community based and the top communities, by themselves, compete with the "composite AAA" teams like Little Ceasars, etc. I am looking for a suburb or city in Michigan called Little Ceasars and I'm shocked I can't find one.

Warroad, Roseau? The US has never won an Olympic gold without a player from Warroad on the roster. The '80 team had a player from Warroad ( Dave Christian) and Roseau (Neal Broten). These small towns are about 20 miles apart. If there is a hockey holy land in the US it's right there.
