Also swiss cheese and pharmaceutical companies and watches as it is the top exporter of (high end) watches... The highest export of theirs though is gold and other precious metals at 17% of their exports so I'm sure gold and such are a major GDP gainer as well

Companies can do all day trading. That’s why Ireland has one of the largest FDI rates in the world since Brexit too and of course the low Tax Rate. No country by the way makes foreign multinationals to pay they’re taxes so it’s not just in Ireland. Besides I don’t even know what you’re on about a tax haven for anyway that’s not got anything to do with GDP per Capita

A lot of Silicon Valley types set up shop later in life in Ireland thanks to its favorable tax code. So while it does have a high GDP, not much of it goes to the citizens. Fortunately, citizens do get a lot from the high paying tech jobs the companies bring with them, so it benefits in that way.

I agree. In these videos where it goes over many decades, you can see points where the stats all of a sudden decrease and you know off the top of your head what was going on at the time. Like the United States housing bubble bursted in 2008 and you can see the GDP drop in the following years. In the Early 90s Japan was going through a recession and than recovered by the end of the decade. During the 70s was the expansion of oil production in the middle east hence why the video started with the arab countries dominating the list.

Sort of. PPP (Purchasing power parity) gets closer. For example incomes might be high in a place like Denmark...but you get the living shit taxed out of you and everything is crazy expensive. So...you need the middle ground between income and cost of living.

Median income only tells you one thing. Half of the people make less and half of the people make more than this. But if you mix it with GDP per capita, you can in a way get a sense of the distrubution among its people. If the average GDP is 100 thousand dollars but the median income is 20 thousand, than you can assume the wealthy hold a big portion of the nations wealth. The closer the median income is the Per Capita GDP you can assume the nations wealth is well distributed.

JD Which is why median income isn't that useful. In the US standard of living is way higher relative to income, because taxes are lower, food, fuel, housing and consumables etc are FAR cheaper. It goes back to the old argument about what defines standard of living. Some people seem to think paying for healthcare for example with taxes instead of out of pocket is the most important thing. Others prefer getting more for their money and hanging onto more of their paycheck. It's a matter of preference more than an objective measure.
