Oh yeah! I'm 64 and same thing. As I recall, the episode's central twist was that the bugs had been sent to earth because humans were thought to be the only species sufficiently vicious enough to deal with them.

The ants with the faces were pretty creepy no matter how cheesy it might have looked, and I liked how it turned out the planet they came from deliberately sent them to Earth because they knew they would be killed off saving their own planet from having to do it themselves.

We played until somebody's Mom called them in for dinner or the streetlights came on. Then it was dinner, homework (bleh)and hopefully something good on Primetime TV. Then bed by...10-11 pm. Sleep, stir, repeat. Weeekends!!! My brothers got to do Boyscouts (destroyed by feminism, now history) and Little League Baseball. I got jipped. Occasionally a Drive-in movie or Matinee on Friday or Saturday! Good times.🤗😎

Hey man. More really great stuff. Right up my alley. I saw Ghidrah in the theatre as a boy in the 60s. I was a BIG Godzilla fan back then. And I remain a big G-fan. I saw Gigantis the Fire Monster (sat through that twice), KIng Kong vs. Godzilla, and Godzilla vs. the Thing all in the 60s, in the theatre. Also, I saw the original Star Trek, Twilight Zone and Outer Limits (my favourite) on TV in the 60s. Fun times! BTW, I love your format, with the commercial breaks. You are the coolest, and this is one cool channel!

That is really neat. I would have loved to see any of those on the big screen as a lad. I think the only Godzilla film I actually saw in the theater was Godzilla '85. Though as an adult I did manage to catch the original Japanese version at a revival showing in Hollywood. That was really neat. The first time I had ever seen that version. And hey, right back atcha. Loved the Gorn too but for me the Star Trek beastie that is my Bestie would have to be the Salt Vampire from The Man Trap. Was a h7ge Outer Limits fan way beck then but managed to miss those Zanti some how. I'll check them out this evening as I have the series on DVD. It may simply have been too disturbing and I blocked them out. Ghidorah I never caught in it's original outing but one of the more recent Gojira movies had him as a mega nasty so came to love the big brute then. Some how, I missed that final episode of the Monkeys which is curious as I loved the show. Definitely a drug induced hallucination. If anything, it reminded me of a Lost in Space ep with the anthropomorphic carrot. Great vid. Loved the nostalgic blast from the past.

The Salt Vampire is awesome. And a pretty snazzy dresser as well. Not quite Gorn snazzy, but snazzy nonetheless. I was talking with another Monkees fan earlier and they didn't recall ever seeing the Frodis Caper on TV either. I certainly don't remember seeing it and I watched pretty religiously. So I'm wondering now if when it started rerunning they didn't show that episode. Perhaps it was just too weird. Glad you dug the video, Greggy. There was an angry carrot here putting a lot of pressure on me to make it a good one.

The Twilight Zone episode To Serve Man is a masterpiece. In fact, an independent station WPIX channel 11 in New York City used the revelatory scene as a trailer for the show. It was the episode that got me hooked. I remember watching The Monkees on CBS at one time. I guess CBS bought the recorded shows to add to their Saturday afternoon schedule. The Zanti Misfits. One of the best episodes of The Outer Limits. Bruce Dern was the first victim of the Zantis. It is interesting that in the early 80’s Bruce Dern was the actor who can play a psychologically unstable character convincingly without any real effort. His character Garth was psychotic. And he delivered a pretty good performance. King Ghidorah. There was no doubt that King Ghidorah was the strongest enemy Godzilla ever faced. And it took more than one monster to defeat him. I, too, called him Ghidrah, thanks to the dubbing. But I have heard the name of Ghidorah in Ghidorah, The Three-Headed Monster. The Sarticons(if that is how it is spelled) were, as I remember calling them, Ghostly Gangsters of space. The scene before the commercial break, where they are marching Robot B-9 at gun point in shadows was the memorable scene I have never forgotten.

I was a big fan of Bruce Dern as a lad. First from World Gone Wild, then from the Burbs. But it was mainly World Gone Wild. One of those movies I would just watch over and over as a kid and never got tired of. That's one that needs a western bluray release. I was thinking about the whole Ghirorah vs Ghidrah thing. It's odd that it switched back over. Being that in Japan, Godzilla is Gojira, it's the same sort of thing. A name localization. So really, ghidrah is no more incorrect than Godzilla is. But for whatever reason, it changed back. Quite odd. The Ghostly Gangsters of Space is a good description. They were pretty schemey too for aliens. Plus, fancy hats.

The film was directed by Kirk Douglas( from his Bryna production company), who also starred in the movie. The second film was Black Sunday where he played a former Vietnam War veteran who was also a P.O.W.. The scene where he stands before Martha Keller, in full naval dress uniform, begging to finish the the murderous mission, to kill everyone, including the President Of The United States, at the Super Bowl in Miami. He was a guest host on Saturday Night Live and he did a sketch where he tries hard not to act psychotic( but hilariously fails and the cast tries to console him).

Funny but true, Peter Tork was friends with Hendrix & he had some pretty heavy parties, but the networks worked hard to keep the drugs & parties on the quite side. Hard to miss Micky at the Monterey Pop Fest during Janis Joplin's performance. Yea the Monkess were not always the good boys as they were portrayed as. I still laugh they went on tour with Jimi when he came back to the States, lord that was a joke that didn't last long at all, but Jimi was friends with them. Good episode & i am loving your channel, lots of fun ... I have a feeling we share the same thing when it comes time for the break LOL !!

Actor Michael Dunn was a treasure and he was just as terrific in his appearance in the original Star Trek. Paul Williams played his son in a later W.W.W. TV movie after Dunn had died.. I remember well the summer of '89 when what was then known as The Family Channel started airing the reruns of Batman '66. I liked it way more than the Tim Burton film. I'll tell you, it was really really tough to narrow the choices down on this one. So I really just ended up going with nostalgia. There's so many from the Outer Limits alone I could have picked. Not to mention Friday from Robinson Crusoe on Mars. He was humanoid, but still an alien. Then all the great Star Trek aliens. I didn't see the Monkees finale in re-runs either. @ Horrorhands- If you've never seen The Outer Limits be prepared to have your brain fried. It's arguable as to which show was the greatest 60s Sci-fi series. Twilight Zone or Outer Limits. O.L. has it for pure sci-fi crossed with horror, but TZ has it for quality writing and longevity. Either way, you're in for quite a ride.

This is a very solid list! Thanks for the Frodis lore. I take only a little issue with your Lost in Space aliens, but I will grant you your nostalgia. Say, did you ever watch any Time Tunnel? At times they would pretty much chuck the whole time travel business and just tangle with aliens. In the episode Town of Terror, they dealt with aliens dressed in black with weird crinkly blue heads, complete with large dark handlebar mustaches, something spiky going on at the top of their skulls, and disconcerting small bumps which were -- or perhaps were not -- their staring eyes. For "cheapjack yet effective," I highly recommend them.

When I was a lad, there was an an Irwin Allen block that ran every weekday. It's how I originally saw Lost in Space. But it didn't show the Time Tunnel unfortunately. I didn't catch that one until about a year ago on MeTV. Or possibly Antenna TV. I only saw the one episode, but I was quite intrigued by it. I meant to get more but than I got rid of DVR. Think I'll run check for a boxset on Amazon right now. Thanks, William.

I do not remember The Monkees and L.I.S. episodes mentioned. I do remember the name change of Ghidrah to Ghidora. Probably the nastiest Kaiju from TOHO. I am lucky to have all those Godzilla films in my collection. The Zantis creeped me out back then. The demonic human face and the stilled movement made them ominous. And who cannot forget the Kanimits. Great episode; one of the Zones top ten. However right now I think I am in trouble. My wife got a package from Amazon the other day. I asked her what it was. She said "Its' a cook book". Oh woe is me. 🤥🤥🤥

I know there is the nice Criterion set, but I heard it is lacking the dubs on several of the films. Which is a deal breaker for me. I love those 60s and 70s Godzilla dubs. But as it is, I think I'm only missing Godzilla vs Hedorah(which is weird, being a favorite Godzilla foe) and Godzilla vs Gigan. Maybe. I'd have to double check that last one. As to your future dinner plans, I wouldn't worry about it. I'm sure your wife has been having you take all those baths with carrots, potatoes, and that special "bath salt" for purely innocent reasons.

@@AtomicSnackBar I was lucky that my video shop (now long gone_) got them in when the USA made Zilla film of 1998 was popular. I could kick my ass as I saw Son of Godzilla bluray for 10 bucks but always put it back on the shlf. Worth a bundle now. At least I have VHS of it. Hopping for a resurection and a "re=print" of Godzilla films due to Godzilla Minus 1 being a big hit.

I remember all of those. For some reason I was more a fan of Outer Limits than of Twilight Zone--but I don't know why. I'm quite torn about Lost In Space: I really loved the earlier, straight sci-fi 1st season since it gave the impression of being one long serialized story. But I did enjoy the 2nd & 3rd seasons too, but for the same campy reason you do. Have you ever seen the original pilot episode? It was from before they added Doctor Smith and re-shot scenes. Basically it was the first 4 or so episodes that were aired, but only the scenes without Jonathan Harris, all run together as if it were a movie. It could have easily competed with Star Trek, Twilight Zone, or Outer Limits as serious sci-fi. But the test screenings indicated the show needed a more obvious recurring villain character who could slowly be redeemed as time passed. Dr. Smith was quite menacing in those early episodes.

I need to do another full watch of The Outer Limits. I maintained for years that I preferred TZ. But after my last re-watch of said show, I think I'm leaning more to The Outer Limits now. It was more sci-fi based, had more creatures, and very little, if any, filler. So I get it, my esteemed friend. As to the Smithless pilot, I want to say I watched it back in the 90s during a Lost in Space marathon. I have it on DVD, and keep meaning to give it another watch, but I find the lack of Harris....disturbing. I heard once that in those early episodes, Mr. Harris would put on eyeliner to give himself a more sinister, almost cat-like appearance.

If you can get ahold of either of the Monkees collections, especially season two, I highly recommend it. Still fun and wacky. Not to mention all the great songs. I just went and checked. Apparently, it was released on bluray, but is already out of print and expensive. It's one I wouldn't mind an upgrade for.

"Dollar Store Triffid" - Fantastic! I remember two things from MONSTER ZERO that changed my young life; KING GHIDORAH (of course) and KUMI MIZUNO. Still in love with Kumi. Ghidorah got a restraining order against me. ZANTI MISSFITS scared the S!!T out of me when I was a kid; they were designed by the great WAH CHANG of Star Trek fame, and were the stuff of 8 year old me's nightmares! B&W 4EVA! BONUS MENTION: Danforth and WHEN DINOSAURS RULED THE EARTH! YES! Along with (I think) EQUINOX and LAZERBLAST! Laserblast was the best/worst film of 78 (not on best aliens list)! FINALLY: My vote for a great 60s alien race are the Martians from QUATERMASS AND THE PIT (Five Million years to Earth in the U.S.). The ship is the first ever Bio-Mechanical alien ship design... it's really ahead of its time, and was designed to look like a cocoon or chrysalis.

But yes, the aliens from Quatermass would have been a fantastic choice. And I'm a major sucker for insect-like aliens too. These lists are purely subjective. I usually try to balance between cool creatures and nostalgia. But I will admit, this episode was even more subjective than usual. 60s sci-fi was really my introduction to it all. So I have so many soft spots for so much of it. It was really tough to narrow it down. Sorry to hear about your falling out with Ghidorah. But that sort of thing happens when you go into business with friends.

_A Walmart Triffid,_ holy crap man, that's perfect~ the goddamn Frotus invites those lovingly insulting descriptions, I see it as the kind of alien overmind that accosts you in an elevator to an annoying and inescapable degree, much like Taylor himself. King Geedrah is a killer villain, really matches that wrasslin' Heel role that went with those Heisei era flicks. The 60s were the time for big-headed veiny-templed aliens too, it was either those or little deedly-boppers on the forehead. I never saw enough Outer Limits as a kid, and thank god for THAT, those Mants would've given me nightmares, I didn't like swarms of bugs, and that face would've spiked the punch as it is.. with your lead-in to number one, I was guessing the Ro-Man from Robot Monster, but these johnnies from Lost in Space are all new to me, and super cool looking! Kinda like a more robed-up sci-fi version of the Terrible Trivium from The Phantom Tollbooth, only these guys can do stuff to people directly. Huzzah to that honorable mention too, that boy ain't to be messed with! Wacky stuff as always man, this is becoming a favorite channel in a hurry. @@AtomicSnackBar At your recommendations, I would expect nothing less~ The Phantom Tollbooth is a book by Norton Juster, who also wrote Alberic the Wise (a very important story to me, as you could imagine), and it describes a world of letters and numbers and a peculiar turn-of-phrase biology to its landscape. It's one of my favorite books so far, and has a villainous Demon in it known as the Terrible Trivium. His design is a more contemporary take on the Saticon's chilling Magritte menace, but I'll leave that to you. There's an animated version that does a fine job (Chuck Jones, after all) but its got too much singing for my taste.

@@AtomicSnackBar Definitely check out Sapphire And Steel!. Our British sci-fi is miles away from all the American shows as mainly we had a very limited budget. I think you might be aware of the old "sink plungers" that made up the Daleks in Doctor Who...it really was ground breaking stuff that the special effects guys worked with!. If you can take stiff dialogue and the old British accent then check out a few gems from the British vaults...the two shows I mentioned already and of course a show called "Blake's Seven" that was a show that I adored as a kid.

As far as the shirts go, it's done through a third party site. I only have one shirt from them, a buddy of mine's art, and it is a great shirt. Soft almost to the point of being a soft tee and a great fit. But I can only speak for that one. Groovy. I don't envy you the task you set yourself picking a Top 5 list from the 60s. 'My Favorite' Top 5 might have been more accurate title. Separating movies and TV would be perhaps an easy way to go about it, but... maybe not. Any one of these shows could compose it's own Top 5 and they would all be deserving. This is a 200% subjective list. But..."different strokes for different folks" as they used to say in the 60s. 'Obscure 60s Sci-fi Aliens' ? The Zantis are pretty well known though. At least in staring out of the kitchen cupboard at my house. But always fun trivia segments, my friend. "You bet your bippy!" on that.

There is no doubt about that. This was a very difficult list to put together. So I ended up going full on subjective nostalgia here. I mean, granted, my choices are all 100% correct, but still. All correct. Not really obscure though. Who doesn't know the Frodis? A sequel episode will probably be a little easier. Though thinking about it, I do think TV may have film beat aliens wise in the 60s. Other than say the bugs from Quatermass and the amphibian from Destination Inner Space, can you think of iconic 60s movie aliens? Friday from Robinson Crusoe perhaps. Though a bit human.

I heard through channels that the Zanti couldn't be originally shown because the were to frightful to be aired could you check this out please. Like the twilight zone with mr. Sulu because it was to soon after WW2 ,and there was still bad feelings about the war in the 50's so it was banned for like 53 years?

I looked into it, and apparently it did air on TV on December 30, 1963. Perhaps they didn't rerun it for those reasons. I couldn't find anything about it, though.

Out of the Ballpark. I actually think Outer Limits had more monsters than Twilight Zone. The Galaxy being was a standout. The creature from Architects of. Fear was so strange, In truth Zanti shared the same twisted knot in your gut. that To Serve Man did. the Revelation kickback. Many Twilight Zone stories reveled in irony it was a Serling trademark

I'd say that's the case as well, not even taking into account how many more episodes of Twilight Zone there were than The Outer Limits. You really got your creatures worth with that one. Oh yeah, I hadn't thought that. But I could definitely see a similarity to Dark City there. The Saticons were better dressed though. As you may have picked up on, I'm really into the 60s. Though I grew up in the 80s, a large number of things I was into as a lad were from the 60s.

The 70s you say? Then you might be vaguely interested in March's big episode. But Space 1999 is going very slowly. I'm enjoying it quite a bit, but I've been deep in research mode for the next batch of episodes. And man, is it time consuming these days. The Monkees is still a really time. Especially, season 2 when they drop the laugh track and up the wacky. There's a good Halloweenie episode where some of them get turned into monsters.

You could kill two birds and film a reaction video. I only seem to remember the Monkees having a bus in their yard - or was that something else? I was practising a different style of blues guitar and that hasn't gone too well - might post a new vid soon, but only if I'm happy-ish with what I have. I got the sound wrong on one lot and the light wrong on another.

I’m sure we have talked about this before over the years but I’m a big fan of plant style monsters. I think we need more plant monsters movies. Of course I love me some King Ghidorah. I’m the other way around. I never heard the Gheedra pronunciation until the internet days. To me the Kanamits look almost identical to The Thing From Another World. Almost too close for comfort and now all I can think about is a face off and a battle to the death between the two. Who do you think would win? I still haven’t gotten around to watching The Outer Limits but the Zanti Misfits sure looks like a bug problem I wouldn’t wish on anyone. Are you sure that the Saticons aren’t following Megatrons orders? The Saticons sound like they belong with the Decepticons.

Now this is a comment I can sink my alien carrot paws into. I would put my money on the Thing. Simply because we never really see the Kanamits do anything physical. Whereas the Thing is out in the trenches, acting like a good alien invader should. And now that you mention it, the Saticons probably were working for Megatron and I bet they transformed into couches. Get it? Sat-icons. Couches. It's almost funny. If you squint while upside down.

Shame on you Rob 😳.I charge you with conflation! The sci-fi of the Outer Limits, the first season of Lost in Space and the Twilight Zone belong nowhere near the Monkees, posterior seasons of Lost in Space and the Toho Ghidora stuff. Star Trek belongs with TZ, TOL and season 1 of LIS. These 4 can be categorized as auteur driven. Serling, Roddenberry, Irwin Allen and the various authors of TOL. Not to mention the absence of any mention of the 50's 😤. Monkees, season 2 and 3 of Lost in Space were straight out 60's trippy. Just as nuts as The Prisoner with Patrick Mcgoohan. Watching them was fun to my young mind because of appealing characters, but boy were they kinda pointless. I mean Get Smart was fun and "trippy" but it was coherent. It had a plot every week that was consistent: Control vs Kaos. What the hell was the Monkees about?! Were they even trying to get back to Earth anymore in LIS? Don't even ask about the Prisoner. What was that bouncing, bubble ball? Was it alive?! There are no shows today that are as genuinely bonkers as M, LIS, and P. Why? Even "Lost" made some sense. As for Ghidora that just reminds me that Godzilla became friendly. Not as friendly as Gamera but cozily on my side. Monsters of the Id? Tiamat or the Dragon of Chaos from ancient Mythology? It was always more scary that Ghidorah got away than was killed. One on one Ghidorah would take Godzilla. You can't fight Chaos, even Zeus would have lost. America Mythology? Only TZ and Star Trek fall into that category. Beware Kanimits bearing gifts 🎁. All the rest are like fever dreams surfacing like the Seaview in Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. Sometimes the world doesn't make sense. Nothing wrong with that. Aren't the best songs better because you can't make out the words or the point. "Groovy baby".

Well, I am a rather shameful person. And much time is spent in the corner of shame. But for my nostalgia and personal favorites, I hold my head high and walk arm and arm with the Saticans into the Great Vegetable Rebellion on another pleasant Frodis Valley Sunday. But no, you are correct. There certainly aren't any shows as genuinely bonkers as the Monkees these days. There are shows that try to be that. But you can tell they are trying, not actually doing. I think the last I saw of a comparable nature was The Mighty Boosh, of which I highly recommend to any and all looking to fall deeper into the rabbit hole of wacky.

@@AtomicSnackBar Anything without a discernible beginning, middle and end can be described as "jelly headed". Never, ever heard of Boosh, but will definitely make an attempt. I suppose there aren't any shows like the Monkees or The Prisoner or those later seasons of Lost in Space because they've stolen all their "jelly" and slathered it onto politics. That ball from the Prisoner is now a court case waiting to be filed by the Producers behind Ancient Aliens. Now that you mention it, this was a rather TV-centric list. One I would recommend is the Mexican film Ship of Monsters. Several very cool aliens in that one. And on the silly side of things, Santa Claus Conquers the Martians. But one of the coolest 1960s alien movies is The Green Slime.
