The Red Wedding should be number 1 on this list . It deserves to be on top because this is the moment that truly defined the phrase of "subverting the audiences expectations" has not just been one of Game of Thrones best episode and moments. But, one of television history and of all time. Not just is Game of Thrones is one of the best television shows of the 2010s and the 21st Century, but of all time and will be indelible and will hold up in time.

What about the death of Rory and Amy in Dr. Who. You truly believe that they've escaped the Weeping Angels without causing a paradox & it's like you're hit with a train at the realization that they did but they didn't at the same time. It was one of the best episodes of television I've ever seen (but I truly loved both Tennant and Smith's Doctors and all of Tennant's various companions {Smith's as well}). But there is a visceral reaction to the loss of the Centurion and Amelia.

@@beans1030 ER in a lot of ways is the perfect TV show especially for that era Great character development. It's a teaching hospital so you have a way to easily introduce new characters. It tackles real-world issues that affect the show character progression. My one flaw is how it ended I would have had the 15th season Carter takes over as the chief of the department and Rachel Green is starting as an intern. That's what I would have done for the 15th and final season. Because we get brought into ER in a lot of ways through the eyes of Carter he starts as an intern and ends up in attending I think it should have ended with him as the chief of the department.

The twist at the end of Season 1 of Quantico deserved a mention. There we’re many twists throughout the long season, but they all culminated into the finale reveal that blew my mind. Also Mr. Yang’s reveal from Psych season 3 is a great twist with NO foreshadowing beforehand.

@akosbarati22394 жыл бұрын
The delicious irony is, and I'm adding this for posterity, the Who shot J.R. plot line was a happy accident, with CBS ordering additional episodes after shooting wrapped. Not only that but with writers' strike slowing things down, the reveal didn't come until the 4th episode of the next season. That said, I myself was a bit of a loss because during when it's originally aired, most Western shows were banned for political reasons, and by the time it arrived a whopping decade later, only the fact that there was no internet yet saved a lot of people from the reveal. The problem is though, that Dallas is connected to the previously conceived, but later green-lit Knots Landing, so certain happening on Dallas cannot be fully understood without watching the other show.

@@Desertpuma I remember. There was even a parody of the saying--"I Shot J.R.!". I discovered "Soap" later, in reruns. It's a classic. The ultimate soap opera spoof. The first season finale, in Spring 1978, presented 5 possible suspects. The culprit was revealed that fall. Strange that it didn't get more attention. The show was a big success in general, though. Launched the careers of Billy Crystal, Robert Guillaume, Katherine Helmond & Ted Wass.

They left out the gut-punch ending to How I Met Your Mother. It wasn't a GOOD twist but it definitely came outta left field as far as shock factor. For a decade, the show had us guessing the identity of the mother and wanting so badly for her to finally appear. But absolutely NOBODY could've predicted the depressing twist.
@AngelusHale3 жыл бұрын
I loved the ending of How I met your Mother. The thing that shocked me the most was that people actually thought it was about how he met their mother just because it's the title. Hilarious. Seriously, the show started when Ted met Robin, 8 years before he actually met the mother. Of course it was about his relationship with Robin. The ending of LOST learned me something about people. They're dumb. The ending of HIMYM confirmed that.

IMO, they nearly doomed The Walking Dead when they cut Chandler Riggs (Carl) from the show, however they miraculously survived and the last two seasons were actually pretty damn good. But absolutely, Carl's death was something that I didn't see coming and the creators succeeded in delivering a major plot twist. It changed the show drastically, for better or worse.
