Exactly! That’s one of the aspects that I love about Dreamworks Animations. I’m not sure if you watched Kipo, but there is this character named Benson that blatantly says “I’m gay.” While I expected some LGBTQ representation in the show, I NEVER expected Dreamworks to actually say gay. My respect for Dreamworks grew, and it kinda makes me wonder why She-Ra never did that. Not that it was necessary; Catra and Adora made it very obvious how they feel about each other via their expressions/interactions towards each other, but it just comes up as a question for me.

I just finished watching The Owl House today and immediately wondered where Lumity would be on this list. Should be waaaay higher, it's so amazing how their relationship slowly went from rivals who dislike each other, to friends, to one-sided crush, to reciprocated crush, to actual canon couple. Watching their relationship unfold was such a joy, and the best part is that the show's not over and we will still be fed hours of Lumity content. "They're adorable and deserve all the happiness" ❤️

I never knew that Velma was a lesbian, and that's strange considering the fact that Mystery Inc is one of my favorite cartoons, albeit traumatizing for me thanks to the dark tone, cheating implications, and the ending that sent them to another reality. However, one episode from the Loud House, and that's my best exposure to queer couples? Granted it's not the first time for me there, I saw a fan video pairing Mavis from Hotel Transylvania and Rapunzel from Tangled(as the daughters of our dream rivals Pitch Black and Sandy from Rise Of The Guardians no less), and a short second view in The Simpsons movie, but Harold and Howard McBride are the first queer couple I fell in love with, and now with fanfiction on my side, I love it even more..

Feels weird making this list NOW and NOT having any characters from Craig of the Creek on it. Like I love Korrsami, Garnet, Harley/Ivy shippings but a lot of those admitted feelings are either more hidden away/reserved for really only one character or revealed at the very end. CotC has like a lot of various actual LGBTQ+ representation and kind of wack none of that was included here.

I think the one(s) I most prefer are Ruby and Sapphire, simply because of the many many doors they opened for other animated series. Their relationship is so natural and beautiful while also being as realistic as possible. And they also had the very first queer wedding in children's animated tv.

I know Korra (the character and the show) isnt everyone's favorite thing, i really like Korra (character and the show) and i was shocked to see her at number one. Not just because of how people see her as a character but also because of the fact that how Korra and Asami's relationship was revealed and happened, also put some people off. But what people need to understand is that If it wasnt for Lok and the actions of the shows creators (as restricted as they may have been) many other kids cartoons today and with in that same timespan wouldnt have had that initial pillar stand on, It as a show in its final moment between the two made a lot of things possible in regards to acceptance of Lgbtq+ kids cartoon characters, which also aids in acceptance and understanding in real life.

I actually have to disagree with you here. Korra didn't open the door. The writers wrote that love story in last second to seem more progressive. Steven Universe and Adventure Time were already showing LGBTQ representation before the last season of Korra. Legend Of Korra was just more mainstream and so its assumed it was the show to open the door for LGBTQ rep in animation but it didn't. It wasn't. If anything its an example of a corporation trying to cash in on the LGBTQ movement. It was literally thrown in to get ratings and to appeal to the LGBTQ audience as other animated shows were already doing. I'm glad they expanded the relationship in books to give more depth to Korra's and Asami's relationship. But the books came out AFTER the show. If any show opened the door for LGBTQ representation in animation, it was Steven Universe. We wouldn't have LGBTQ representation as we do now if it wasn't for that show. I don't hate Korra or the show. I hate that it's considered the door opener when it was a last minute plot development to get money and ratings from a targeted community.

@@vetarlittorf1807 Sorry but that's wrong. If you researched the culture of cinema in the 2010s, A LOT of networks were trying to profit off LGBTQ represenation in media. Especially cartoons. Yes, some were actually trying to push open that door a bit more ( it had been opened since the 1980s BTW) and make it possible for future cartoons to have fullblown LGBTQ couples in media. But Korra wasn't. It wasn't built up. The reason there was an outrage was because of the lack of built up. Asami was dating Mako most of the show and showing feelings for him. In fact, Korra and Asami both fought over him! I understand you want to defend this couple and i am not saying they are a bad couple. I am not saying i don't want them to be a couple. I am saying Legend of Korra was not written to have a LGBTQ representation as other childern cartoons were. It was thrown in last second. It really was. As i have previously stated( and you looked over), Adventure Time and Steven Universe already had LGBTQ repersentation going on BEFORE the ending episode of Korra. Rebecca Sugarman already had it planned out about the characters and their relationships. As well as Adventure Time with Marceline and Princess Bubblegum. You can look up the timeline if you want. Also Asami and Korra were not the first offical LGBTQ characters in a children's program. I am assuming either you didn't watch cartoons in 90s or you weren't born then. Research 90s cartoons, there waas representation in them. Hell, Rocko's Modern Life had LGBTQ representation. If you haven't watched Steven Universe, WATCH IT. Honestly binge the first season which was out during Legend of Korra and i think you will see what i mean when i say if ANY 2010s show broke down the wall, it was Steven Universe. Also, Sailor Moon had a beautiful lesbian couple and that was a early 90s show.

Also, there wasn't a positive reaction to the final episode of Korra and it had nothing to do with her being gay( though there was a small outcry from horrible, discriminating little turds), there was a huge backlash on the show on the SUDDENNESS of their relationship when in previous seasons the two characters were fighting over Mako. The backlash main point was that nickelodeon and the writers threw that in to profit off the LGBTQ movement. I don't want to assume your young but based on the little information you know about the show, you weren't there for the premier and you watched Legend of Korra after it had been out for awhile. I highly recommend again, to watch Steven Universe. Just watch the first season.

That's the whole reason why people accepted it and were hoping they'd end up together as the series was running. And there wasn't even any significant outrage as you suggest. Saying that Korrasami was thrown in at the last second is either pure intellectual dishonesty or just plain ignorance. We literally see Korra and Asami's friendship becoming more and more intimate as the show progresses and they start to show signs of potential romantic feelings in the book 3 finale. Then their separation for 3 years, during which time Korra only writes back to Asami, compels them both to understand their true feelings for each other (just like it did for Zaheer and P'Li) and as such they show stronger signs of romantic feelings and decide to act on them at the first appropriate time, when the conflict has ended. And yes, Korra and Asami are the first LGBTQ characters in western children's programming. You can look it up and see all the evidence for yourself.

Love how a lot of these shows throw them in at the very end of their series runs so that they won't lose viewers. If you're gonna do it just do it from the beginning. Don't focus on it, don't make it a big deal. Just causally let people know that's how it is and majority of people won't care. Adventure time is probably the best example of this. Literally last episode: 'oh by the way guys they're gay BYE! ' puts a terrible taste on the rest of the series. Very close second was Korra. But at least adventure time was good for the majority of it's run. Korra was terrible from episode one.

Not sure if this counts, but since it's based on a TTRPG actual play, "The Legend of Vox Machina" does have canonical LGBTQIA+ representation. You got a pair of bisexual twins, a demisexual druid, and a pansexual gnomish bard. And that's just from the main characters. Oh, and a bunch of side characters that fit the bill as well.

I know they weren't on this list, but it's interesting that the ending of MLP: FiM practically confirmed that Appplejack and Rainbow Dash eventually got married, without outright saying it. Also, Season 9 confirmed that Scootaloo has 2 lesbian aunts. I'm foolishly holding out hope that Hitch Trailblazer, from G5, turns out to be gay, bi or pan.

Unpopular opinion, but I always found it kinda lazy to make Velma gay. I'm not mad that people see her as queer coded, but she seems to fit a lot of lesbian stereotypes from not wearing makeup or being boy crazy or being conventionally attractive to guys. Just any girly girl stuff. But I don't want to call her a tomboy either. On the other hand, none of the Mystery Inc gang's sexual orientations was never really addressed but they've always given Shaggy, Fred and Daphne opposite sex love interests. Shaggy started dating in the Scooby Doo and Scrappy Doo show and the Fraphne ship wasn't canon until the 90s. At that point, Velma was the only character who didn't have a love interest. Except Johnny Bravo, I guess. Then the live action movie gave her a guy she only talks to at a bar once and only comes back in the end just to kiss her? At least they improved with Seth Green in the sequel. My point is, the writers never knew what to do with Velma's love cycle and along with all the lesbian stereotypes, of course fans wanted her to be gay. I'm fine with her relationship with Hot Dog Water but still. PS I'm currently reading a fanfic about Velma and Johnny Bravo's relationship called Whoa Momma With a Side of Jinkies that makes the crossover and that one CN bumper about them into one plot! It's surprisingly engaging! Edit: I ship Shaggy and Daphne more than Fred and Daphne or Shaggy and Velma. Sorry not sorry!
