Fun fact: The killer whale is actually a part of the dolphin family, not the whale family. Ancient sailors named the orca “asesina ballenas” which actually means “whale killer”, however it is now referred to as the killer whale. There’s no definite reason for this but some people say it was mistranslated and others say it was because it’s easier to say. They got their name from their tendency to hunt whales as prey and the threat they pose to whales. Hope this interests some of you 😊

I worked on islands in the Great Barrier Reef for about six years. When we went out diving, the instructors off Herron Island took me to visit a giant Moray Eel off the coral quay, that they called Olive. She had a head the size of a shoe box, and was so friendly to dive instructors that she knew well. They could come up to her and massage her under her neck. She was magnificent to watch. I only saw her once. An experience i will remember forever. It all went bad when a guest, an american diver, got too close and bumped her on the head with his camera. She took a big chunk out of his right hand in retaliation and he had to be medivaced of the island in a helicopter. She was never see again. Very sad for us on the island as everyone who dived (most of the staff) loved her dearly.
