I love videos like this, Joe! You and Vince have inspired me to collect base Topps cards of hall of famers in solid grade for my PC. My collection was getting a bit stale, and this has reinvigorated my love and passion for this great hobby. Thanks for the great videos! I’d love to talk cards with you all someday!

I started this set by purchasing about a 350 card lot, mostly commons in vg-ex condition. Finished it in 6 months adding cards in ex-mt. I did have the Gibson before hand. Fun set to collect! Funny thing about grading these is that PSA or whatever company does not take in fact the vertical centering of the circle. Look along the border of each side. I have some PSA 8's that are way off like your Mantle. Thanks for sharing your post!
@johnrotondo72504 жыл бұрын
It varies for each card, even the same player!
@SilverJackify4 жыл бұрын
Yeah the circle on the Gibson is perfect but the centering is off and got a 6. Mantle centering is better but the circle is way off and got an 8. Go figure

I have that same Sandy Koufax and the Hank Aaron from the '59 Topps collection. My HS buddy had received them as a bday from his father and traded them to me for really cheap. I've never had them graded but they're still in the hard plastic cases and look to be in really great condition. This trade took place around 25 yrs ago. Anyway, that's how I would up here. Thx for sharing 👍

Joe, I don't know why you don't think people wouldn't watch this? I'd much rather watch videos about vintage vs Project 2020 or other new crap. 59 Topps is a nice set and I think it's cool you jumped on the wagon. Looking forward to the video when you have it completed 😉. Thanks for the show.

Haha yeah but if it isn’t about the latest hot product it doesn’t get as many views. All good though! Thanks for watching. These vintage sets are amazing

Yeah, I have been slowly trying to work on some of them and you know some of the high numbers are a bear to find. 66 and 67 seem particularly horrible in my experience. And sadly 67 is my birth year set so that'll cost me dearly to finish. Thanks for the reply.

Funny, Sparky Anderson was my first '59 Topps card too, and I also recently picked up the Gibson - yours is way nicer though! BTW, there is a second HoF rookie in the set, and it's the Sparky Anderson - he's in the HoF as a manager. Great vid, thanks for sharing!

Love 59 topps. Glad you showed the backs, especially of the all-star cards. I display those those to show the backs which are way more attractive than the photo side in my opinion. One of the other commenters mentioned and I agree, Bob Allison rookie is a steal at its current value.

Great video. I just happen to acquire a box of 1959 topps cards and had no idea of which cards to keep or to even look up for value. Saw ypur video and started going thru them as you were showing your collection. Shocked that I found a couple of the variations you highlighted. Found 2 of the Haywood Sullivan variations. 3 total. 1 regular and 2 with the no circle around the c trademark..I have collected for several yrs but mostly late 70's to present. There's approx 400 cards in this collection of 59 cards and most are in mint condition with the exception of maybe 10 cards .would you be interested in these since you are working on completing the set?? Thought I would offer before I started listing.. thanks for the video. It helped me alot.

I have a little bit of 1956 but no huge names other than Larry Doby and Eddie Mathews. I still need the Mantle,Aaron, Mays and plenty of others! I started with only having a Hank Sauer. None are graded though..

Great video Joe. Some of the first vintage cards I got when I first started collecting in the early 80's were from the '59 set, and I've been in love with it since. Interesting about the value of the Haywood and Pierce, didn't know that. The set would've been made by a Teddy Ballgame, but it's hard to beat a top group of Stan, Sandy, Roberto, Willie, Hank, Bob and the Mick! Congrats on the new Bob RC, and that Mick is just outstanding.
