Most of Eastern Europe is pretty awful, but there are exceptions. Prague is a delight, yes I could live there long term., Budapest is fine for a a few days but I can't think of a reason to stay longer. Poland is worth a longer trip and Poles get along with the British well. If invited by younger Poles enjoy a cold beer with them as they use you to practice their English. They are a great source on info on what to see locally. It won't be time wasted. Go with eyes and ears open and enjoy.
