I saw the movie The Green Mile before anyone else in my high school did and one day a class of mine decided to show it. Since I knew what was going to happen, I won't deny that seeing what happened to John Coffey was deeply sad to the point of tears the first time around, but seeing the second time around made me more curious how it affected the other students and sure enough, everyone except the teacher and myself were crying. I was called a heartless monster by alot of them since they noticed I didn't shed any tears until I told them I saw it already and knew what was coming.

They called you a heartless monster because you were not crying? I have seen all those movies and I have never cried, it simply is how I am, I am sad, but I don't cry, and I doubt that too many people actually cry. Sorry, but I don't think there are so stupid people, even kids who would call somebody heartless because he wasn't crying.

Honorable mentions: Emma Greenway, Terms of Endearment (1983): She dies of cancer, and her last words with her children is soooooo sad. Harry Stamper, Armageddon (1998): He gave his life to destroy an asteroid at the last minute...and he had one last word with his only daughter. Mr. Spock, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982): Even when he uses logic to sacrifice his life, it doesn't make his loss any easier. LLAP. Sam Wheat, Ghost (1990): It was sad to see him die so early in the film, and even sadder when it finally time for him to go to heaven. Maximus, Gladiator (2000): Claudius fatally wounds him, he clobbers the SOB to death in the ring, and dies heroically. May we see him in another life, but not yet.

"Schindler's List" Red Coat Girl, we see her wander the ghettos while atrocities occur all around her. Later we see her dead amongst others to be burned. "Saving Private Ryan" Ryan's words at the end of the film amongst his family "Tell me I lived a good life, tell me I'm a good man." I could go on and on

Jack dying lost a little bit of it’s impact when Mythbusters figured out how to save him and Rose. (Although one could argue that the situation was so chaotic, and the extreme cold meant that neither of them were in the right frame of mind to think, “Hey, let’s tie your life jacket to this door.”)

That's part of what makes the death so tragic, knowing how it could have gone if they'd had the time to truly think it through. It's one of those times when you can excuse the character's mistakes though, given all of the events that preceded them.
@PoolKid75
@PoolKid75 Жыл бұрын
The Mythbusters only reinforced Jack's need to sacrifice himself for Rose. They proved that the piece of wood (not actually a door) was not buoyant enough or stable enough to support the weight of both Jack and Rose. The idea that either would have the strength, presence of mind or even the ingenuity to tie their life jackets together and put them under the piece of wood is ridiculous. They were both in freezing cold water and had just gone through a harrowing ordeal. They both barely had enough strength left to even get on the piece of wood. Had they stopped to think of the life jacket hack they would've both froze to death.

Something more positive about Top Gun: The actors who played Iceman and Goose also voiced the fighter jets Echo and Bravo in Planes. In Planes, the jets help Dusty find the aircraft carrier and in addition to being voiced by the same actors, they’re also animated wearing the characters’ helmets. Echo wears Goose’s helmet while Bravo wears Iceman’s helmet!

I think Doby deserved his own place in the list. Everyone who read Harry Potter loved Doby. He had been Harry's almost secret helper throughout the books. It's a crime he didn't get the same attention in the movies, but it all ended the same way. Doby was a loyal friend to Harry and his friends and gave his life for him. Not only is it a shock with reading the books, but knowing that it's coming when watching the movies is even worse. Not to mention the sad somber music playing and the brilliant acting by Daniel Radcliff to show Harry's panic and sadness in the moment. My parents were upset for months when they first read Deathly Hallows, and both cried their eyes out when they started reading the words on the page. Dumbledore's death was tragic. Cedric's death was a wake up to the dark turn the series would take. But Doby's death was heart-wrenching and left people in shambles.

One more thing to Note, When Dumbledore said “Severus, Please” before Severus killed him, those who hadn’t read the books were initially thinking that Dumbledore was wanting to stop Severus from killing him. But as we learn in the Deathly Hallows Part 2, Dumbledore wanted Severus to kill him to gain Severus Voldemort’s trust and find a weakness, so it makes a surprising twist but also makes it more harrowing that Dumbledore’s death HAD TO Happen so that Harry could win.

I read the book before the movie came out, and I had a hunch that Dumbledore would die, if not in Half Blood Prince then in the final book. Dumbledore was actually the character who had to die. Harry’s defeat of Voldemort would have meant less if Dumbledore was still alive.

@@nrkgalt He was the only man that Voldemort feared after all, and master of the elder wand. If he can duel Voldemort to a draw or potentially win all by himself no big group fight would have any tension. So you are 100% right. Dumbledore had to die and Voldemort had to get the elder wand. It amped up the tension going into the final book in a HUGE way.

The Green Mile , Terminator 2 Judgement Day , Forrest Gump , The Crow and Logan is one of the movies that made me cry . Logan was such an amazing finale of the X-Men and the end of Logans Journey and i couldn’t stop cry because it was the last time Hugh Jackman would play Logan / Wolverine . The Crow hit me hard also because Brandon Lee died and it made the movie memorable and sad to know it was his last movie 😢.

I think Jenny gets shit on quite a lot by audiences who don't get the circumstances of her life, especially her childhood. She was a kind girl, but life dealt her several bad hands and she never seemed to get out of wanting to be in the moment, drowning herself in all sorts of things. She did do the damage to herself willingly, but she didn't know any better than self-sabotage. It's a common theme among kids who grew up with sexual trauma.

I knew you'd overlook the one I knew belongs on this list: Jack Starks in The Jacket Adrien Brody's Jack is a troubled war vet who's framed for murder and sent to a mental institution for treatment. While there in an experimental study using drugs and a straight jacket in a morgue locker, he figured out how to time travel. In this future, he meets and falls for a troubled woman, Jackie, who he met as a kid, briefly. Her mom was dead and this messed her up. Before he dies, he takes a letter to Jackie's mom to warn her of the fate to come if something doesn't change. As he said in the letter, "no matter how bad things look, they always look better awake than asleep".

The saddest death scene I can remember seeing is in You're Not You. It's heartbreaking as Emmy Rossum's character respects Hillary Swanks' character's wishes to not help when she starts choking that night because she doesn't want to live with that disease anymore. And then it gets even more intense and difficult to watch when Emmy's character decides to sit with Hillary's character as she's dying so she's not alone. I've full on sobbed for only a few movies, but this movie is definitely one of those.
