Such a great list!! 2022 had some of the very best games release for us solo players. My bank account hated it, but man, what a year! The HexploreIt games have been some of my all time favorites. The Domain of Mirza Noctis stayed on my table for weeks. I have had such a blast with it and am looking forward to playing it again soon. I really like the stories that you create as you play. I definitely need more hours in a day to get into the campaign book, Klik’s Madness, but I’ll get to it soon. I have Hoplomachus Lost Cities and have had a blast with it over the years, so backing Victorum was a no brainer for me. It is on the table now as I play through my second campaign. It hits all the right buttons and I couldn’t be happier. Hopefully, I’ll get all of the rules right this time through! I hope you get the same level of enjoyment when it gets to you. Happy New Year!!

Thanks for all the work you do for the channel, Adam. The content is great. Even though I’m not a solo gamer, I like a lot of these in a small group, and in that context I still greatly enjoy your opinions and your playthroughs. For me, top surprise was Lands of Galzyr. Top keeper was Return to Dark Tower. Biggest disappointment was Oathsworn (I like Gloomhaven better for the tactical gameplay and the narrative gameplay didn’t stand out to me). Most anticipated (that made your list but still hasn’t arrived for me) is Frosthaven. Most anticipated for 2023 is Final Girl Wave 2. Happy New Year to you and your family! Wishing you good things for your gaming and your channel in 2023.

Same. It's a great game. My only beef is with the table space footprint, especially with multiple open boxes also stacked up nearby, but that's not unusual for these big crawler games. I'm a bit challenged when it comes to consolidating the sprawl anyway.

An excellent list! Thanks for calling out the childish clowns throwing temper tantrums on the BGG ratings. Frankly, it's pathetic. I personally didn't care at all for Massive Darkness 2 (rated it a 5), and I'm completely done with anything zombicide or marvel (let alone the combination), but that's just my personal tastes. I'm not going to go crush them on BGG because they don't fit me personally.
@RollingSolo2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I just don’t feel it’s fair for logistics to enter the review space of the product (game box and everything in it). It’s something that’s creeped into BGG review for the longest time but has nothing to do with the designers, artists, writers etc. In other words the game box itself and the experience within which is what that review score focuses on. I know that 6.6 for DD is not where it deserves to be based on early review bombs. But I also know that as the game lands more and more that review score is going to start going up. Grievances around logistics, logistics communication and shipping should stay on the campaign pages and communication directly with the publisher. The creators of the game itself shouldn’t be taking the damage for something outside their control. A lot of people don’t understand the separation and just consider it all part of the equation to get it to their doorstep. MD2 didn’t land for everyone and it’s on the lighter side compared to other dungeon crawlers out there. I think for their efforts to take a soulless MD1 and bring it into a better MD2 system was a solid move. The game has improved and is now what people were hoping for from the first one. Even with that, it might not be everyone’s cup of tea which is totally fair. 😄 Rating a game whatever score you want after playing the game is the rationale approach. I have zero respect for people that review on a site before receiving a game positive or negative. There’s no logic in it. It’s childish. I’m hoping one day BGG takes all reviews prior to a game release and literally deletes all of them the moment the game actually begins release within a given month. That would clear out all the initial garbage review scores. After that if a person review bombs without playing it, well…you can’t totally stop irrational people but you you can dampen their minor impact lol All the best in the New Year my friend! 🥳🤩

You’d be surprised how fun the comic campaign and solo play is if you give it a shot. The games still shines this way. Only element missing is the traitor aspect. The game is great at all player counts for different reasons.

@@RollingSolo Thanks. I'm still not convinced but maybe I'll give solo or coop a shot someday.. ;)
@tgeorgom2 жыл бұрын
The 6.6 rate (at some point was even lower) of Darkest Dungeon is due to the issue with extra payments and people wanted to punish Mythic Games. So there are a lot of 1 rates that have nothing to do with the game itself.
@tgeorgom2 жыл бұрын
oh, you mentioned it! Thank you for the comment
@RollingSolo2 жыл бұрын
Yep! That’s exactly what I was referring to. Logistics aren’t part of a review score of a game. The review score of a game is reviewing the game, designer, artists and writers. The cost of the actual game is certainly valid in a review. The cost of shipping is not.
@current9300 Жыл бұрын
Bullet Heart and Bullet Star are mechanically identical (and both can be combined for 8 player game) so I'm pretty sure that higher user rating of Star is more due to fans of Heart buying it a lot and people who didn't care much for Heart just completely skipping it, since it is exactly the same game as Heart but with a new set of characters.
@RollingSolo Жыл бұрын
Very very true. That’s quite common as the original can have a big impact on interest going into a second one using similar designs.
@ACosmonaut2 жыл бұрын
I’m glad people are liking iss vanguard, but I got almost all the way through and something clicked and made me realize how much I hate the gameplay that I can’t convince myself to go back and finish. I might just go through the final couple scenarios and count every interaction as a success just to see out the story. I’m just waiting on wave 2 to ship so I can sell it. The story is no doubt compelling, but the whole dice system, the landings, everything about the gameplay feels prohibitive and bad to me and devoid of interesting decisions. I can’t say enough about how much I enjoyed the ship phase, though. Even though it only had a marginally larger decision space, I found the process satisfying each time.
@RollingSolo2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your thoughts on Vanguard. Always good to hear different takes! What else did you enjoy this year?

I need to swim against the flow and say that I'm totally surprised to see Hoplomachus in #3. 1) Bc I got it in Essen, gave it 10h (one campaign) and I did not like it, so much that I already flipped it. I got Mage Knight in the same breath and I think whenever I could pull Hoplo I'd rather spend my time with Mage Knight instead. 2) Bc I was under the impression many ppl didn't got it yet, am I wrong? I'm not following fulfilment closely, since I didn't back it, but I thought the store availability would be somewhere in January. Maybe some backers have already received. I've put same 10h in Aeon Trespass: Odyssey and my time was incomparable more pleasurable.

I'm constantly amazed that people think the BGG rating is a rating of how good the game is. The BGG rating IS and always was intended to indicate how much you want to play the game, NOT how good you think the game is. I agree people shouldn't trash (or praise) a game without reason, but people tend to be jerks.

People have a right to their opinion on a game whether or not someone likes it or not. Censoring someone's opinion based on what you think is more incorrect.

I don’t believe in censoring at all actually. I believe in adults realizing that review bombing the designers/artists/writers game on BGG because they’re upset about logistics issues from a crowdfunding campaign is not part of a review score on a game on a review site. Those outside grievances stay on the crowdfunding platform or directly to the publisher. Giving a low review score of the game prior to playing it or it’s release is just childish. Put yourself in the designer/artists/writers shoes and think about how you’d feel about people throwing negative reviews on your game based on how it shipped. They’re not related.

@RollingSolo Well Adam it’s been a while since I’ve been able to watch a video of yours. I was a very early subscriber to your channel. That said, I am one of the “childish people” who have invested over $400 with Mythic Games for Darkest Dungeon and was not willing to provide them with additional funding. This was not just a logistics issue due to covid. The game was significantly delayed in production to begin with and had it been completed and dispensed to backers even close to when it was supposed to have been, there wouldn’t have been a need to demand additional shipping. I have backed a LOT of Kickstarter games and there were several that I backed around the time of Darkest Dungeon. NOT ONE of those companies asked me for an additional dime to ship me my game. Some of them were also later getting them completed. Again, NOT ONE asked me for a dime. The mismanagement associated with Mythic Games and their products is beyond ridiculous and the fact that many people decided to voice their opinion though a rating on Boardgamegeek is ENTIRELY their prerogative!!! I must admit that I was a little surprised at your comments about people expressing their dissatisfaction with not receiving a product that we ALL spent our hard earned money on and in good faith provided this company with the funding so they could manufacture the game in the first place. You are entitled to your opinion, just like all of us “childish jerks” are entitled to express our opinions by rating a game and it’s deployable company as we see fit. I don’t recall making any comments on the Kickstarter platform about the people who paid the ransom money for shipping, but you felt the need to make a comment on KZbin about those who rated the game for what they felt it deserved. Your channel, you can certainly do with it what you want. Just remember that those of us who live in a free society have every right to voice our opinions about an inept company as we see fit, preferably without being judged by you. Like I said, I don’t think you were outwardly judged for paying the ransom. Four hundred dollars wasted certainly gives me the right to rate a game however I choose!!
