Hi Max. As a native Amsterdammer I liked the overview. Some additional suggestions for a next visit are: De Hallen ( a former tram depot turned into a trendy foodcourt); Spiegelkwartier (Amsterdam's art district); NDSM terrain (former shipdocks turned into a create and trendy hotspot) A'dam lookout (best view over the city); Zeedijk/Nieuwmarkt (hart of chinatown and one of oldest areas of the city). Amsterdam Museum/Begijnhof (museum about amsterdam located at a peaceful courtyard in the heart of the city

Hi, Tom. Will be getting a full day tour in Amsterdam around Aug and would like to ask if there are still places we can visit after dinner (around 8PM)? Our tour covers the basic tourist spots (Chapel of Lady of All Nations, Clara Maria, Cheese Farm and Clogs, Dam Square, Skinny Bridge, Central Station, Canal Cruise, Prins Hendrikkade, and Anne Frank’s House) and we will be staying in Piet Heinkade area. Hope you (or other viewers) could give suggestions on where we can go during night time to make the most out of our time in your beautiful city. Cheers!

So... never buy anything from the Flower Market. Its fun to walk and look, but the items are bad quality and expensive. Also, never buy at a "cheese shop". Its just for tourists, Dutch people buy their cheese in the supermarket like Albert Heijn. They have lots of different Dutch cheeses and of course alot cheaper. Just some other random tips : Take one of the ferries behind the Centraal Station. They are free! Especially the one to the NDSM Werf area is nice, lots of artists there creating and exhibiting in abandoned harbor industrial buildings and so forth. Also worth a mention : The Amsterdam zoo called Artis. Its one of the oldest in Europe, 1838, and lots to see there, great for kids. Everyday life is pretty much back to normal here so always check the calendar: There are many festivals and other seasonal events !

youre insane no sane dutch person buys their cheese at albert heijn, you buy it at the cheese market. Thanks for supporting big corparetions and not small businesses...
@ageoflove19802 жыл бұрын
@@r.a.h7682 Woahhhh... no need to get so excited my friend! And yes, when you have the time its always good to support local business, you are absolutely right. Still, most people do buy their daily stuff and that means cheese too, in the supermarket. Im just pointing out that these so-called cheeseshops in the tourist area of Amsterdam are a bit of a tourist trap and that no locals buy their cheese there.

Nice enthousiastic vlog. Some of the locations you visited are mainly for tourists. You will get a bite of what the real product is like. For food like pancakes, stamppot, fish, cheese, bitterballen or fries I think you have a better chance of having a real quality meal of that just outside Amsterdam and go to something like a real cheesefarm, a place where you can get fries with peaces of the potato skin stil on and freshly made mayonaise, an old pancakehouse, etc. Then you have the Dutch food we as Dutch citizens also consume when we are searching for a good meal. I think in Amsterdam that is somewhat hard to find, but if you consult with locals you might find some of these places in Amsterdam and others (like a non touristic cheesefarm or old pancakehouse) just outside the city borders. If you visit Amsterdam again I thinkany Dutch commenters here could provide you tips (I subscribed of course since life is about the journey to me, and you are definetely doing the journey)

"Manneke Pis" at Damrak, states “Voted Holland's No.1 Fries”: that is a huge lie. Their fries rank among the worst on tests. There are lots of much better choices. The royal palace on Dam square is not the official residence of the king, he doesn't live or work there and only used a few times a year for functions where the king is present. Henri Willig cheese shops are for tourist. And even in the supermarket there is sometimes a tourist section near the entrance. Walk further into a supermarket and usually in the back is the cheese that locals buy.

@@polinasmelova6068 @Polina Smelova Albert Heijn supermarket under museum square? Local cheese shops in smaller neighbourhood shopping centers, e.g. Zuivelhoeve? Normal street markets usually have a cheese monger selling excellent quality cheese for a nice price. (I guess this is true for many countries) I do not live in Amsterdam but elsewhere in NL. So Amsterdam locals can help you out a bit more detailed. Some cheeses you can even buy online or abroad. My favorite, "Twentse Bunkerkaas" can even be bought in the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv. The cheese comes from the Dutch/German border area of Twente it is stored in old ammunition bunkers, hence the name. They sell in both cow as wel as goat variety. I freeze the aged goat variety in cubes to use with cooking as a cheaper alternative to Parmesan or Pecorrino. On your way home you can even try the Albert Heijn at schiphol airport. But do check import restrictions! Or you have to eat a whole lot of cheese before boarding your flight!
