Surprised you didn't mention that House of Pain is an obvious Splatterhouse tribute, for a second I thought it was a remake or something similar. Nice collection all around. I had some on my backlog already like Buccaneers and Fallen City Brawl, but I enjoy adding more titles. My biggest surprise is finding out Night Slashers is getting a remake. I love that there is a 4 players co-op support this time. Mayhem Brawlers and Nightmare Cops are my two most awaited titles. Hopefully the latter gets a release date soon.

"Detained: Too good for school" stands out for me. The Vanillaware art, the modern approach with the i-frame dodge, the cool combos and last but not least: VERY good keyboard support. Most beat 'em ups treat keyboard players poorly at best, but "Detained..." is not the case.

Wow! You put out a fantastic list. I'm so looking forward to playing Quit Today, Maiden Cops and Toxic Crusaders as their demos on Steam were excellent. I really like the variety of genres and pixel art graphics in each of the titles you showcased. SparkHunt looks very well polished and Nightmare Cops looks insane. Great work Clenmy!

Nightmare Cops has been in development for like a decade, Jeff Utah talked about how the game has a ton of animation work.. He said that there is two dozen bosses in the game. Co-op of course you'll be able to play with friends, fighting mechanics snd shooting mechanics. The trailer the only trailer looks awesome you can tell there is a lot of work going in people tend to think it's cancelled because it's been awhile. Development can take years especially when you have only a few guys working on it not a whole team..

Ronin's Run - Looks the part but as you say there's a lot more work to be done on the AI standing around doing nothing and imho the hack-slash for Samurai needs to be more precise to fit the theme of the thin blade and arcing cut-motion... a hack-slash type of attack can be satisfying but more as a spear or club or cartoon style exaggerated weapon. Really dig the look but think it needs to evoke and have more precise gameplay to pull together. Nightmare Cops - Instantly made me think of one of the best games ever, Behemoth's Castle Crashers so there's some solid pedigree here and it looks a cut above all the others imho. With that said, the colour and silhouette lines need to be better contrast to ensure the action is easier to keep track of and even just appreciate. It's a bit dark and muted in contrast to Castle Crashers where everything was crisp and clear. All titles in this genre tend to be fun one way or another bashing hoards of Guards! Guards! so entertaining bunch of contenders here but definitely a lot of areas to fine-tune for a break-out game in the beat'em-up genre.

Sadly, I agree on G.I. Joe as it looks better than the 1st trailer, but nothing at Shredders Revenge levels. But as you stated, I would love to be proven wrong. It doesn't look terrible, but considering how under used that franchise is, I would have loved something that looks a lot better. But I'm a fan of the franchise, so I'll probably support it at some point.

So many indie development making beat em up game is too hard. because they are slow unfinished animation fighting style, stage, enemies, weapons, bosses ,food items and weapons items.

After what I've seen, we can say that the beat em up genre is dead, nothing good. If earlier there were 1-2 interesting games in the genre, now everything is kind of faded, dull, or cringe and trash. The latest good games in the genre of street of rage 4 and river city girl. Of the videos, only Pizza kidd can be highlighted, dynamic, smooth animations, nice art design and pixel art.

I feel ya. The beatemup genre has been pretty dry. Mayhem Brawler 2 looks decent and I can only hope that Sega delivers with Streets of Rage Revolution.

@@SolidSnake240 mayhem brawler More of a parody of street of rage 4, not badly drawn, but the rest is not very good. The animations lack smoothness, the moves look bad, and the hitboxes are not clear. There are no special features of the playable characters. In general, only the painted environment can be distinguished. The game doesn't have any kind of self-sufficiency and identity. One relatively average game in the genre doesn't save the dead genre as a whole. The developers forgot about the possibility of sequential passage with forks, characters, movesets, normal hitboxes, history - although this is not the strong point of the genre. P.s. The new street of rage and golden axe are more disappointing. Gone to 3D. Golden axe will look like a 3D action game visually.

I really HATE Night Slashers Remake's graphics. The pixelart in the original looks much better. This looks all completely off. I'm liking Toxic Crusaders but I don't understand House of Pain. What's the point in recreating Splatterhouse to then shy away from blood, even if it's not red, and include that tacky red blink on enemies any time they are hit?

I am over nostalgia. Like.. in general. Id rather see indie devs tryign some thing new with a genre or with an artstyle or other things. Have the same game over and over is not interesting for me. Sadly innovation is also nowhere to be found in modern day big releases anymore. I would try out new stuff any day. But my nostalgia is non existent except for maybe two games:the early NES and sNES zelda titles and ..oddly the Wipeout series

This is horrible. We should be wanting old school with a new action gameplay. Not a refreshed old game packaged as new. Heads up......take lessons from AAW wrestling or Fading Afternoon, and many other indie games for gameplay combat styles.
