Don't make excuses for their horrible mistakes there's plenty of great examples pre 05. The Matrix came out in 99. Men in black 1997. Jurassic park in 93. Terminator 2 in 91. And star wars in 02, 99, 83, 80, and 77. And literally 1000's of other. With some of these giant budgets they could've done far better post or pre your 2005 line of CGI demarcation. Your right that there were advances in 05, just like 86, 94, 09, 16, and 22. We all know technologies advance daily. Our new smart phones are outdated by the time we leave the store. Maybe your aware of some actually advance in 05 that changed the industry, and your proud that you're aware of this knowledge and want the rest of us to know how smart you are. You could have that knowledge but that doesn't change the fact that some CGI is crap and some is great no matter the time.

The Angry Video Game Nerd had a really good observation about why the original trilogy Star Wars and the first two Aliens movies arguably look better than the newer CGI orgy sequels. He said that while the animatronic puppets were obviously that, the puppets were still tangible and real.
