you know the hobby is sick when a mike trout card sells for almost as much as a 100 year old joe jackson card
@tewksburydriver86245 жыл бұрын
The hobby will be dead in 15-20 years, especially the vintage stuff. Most serious collectors will be dead or retired by then and kids today could care less about a Joe Jackson card. Supply will far exceed demand, except for a few immortals and popular HOF'ers.

kyle marsh ... he is in a historical sense, but not in collectible popularity. That card was no doubt bought by someone over 50. I’m 43, collected cards since early 80’s, I’d rather have a Jordan rookie than most vintage cards. Get into the younger demographic and they don’t even know who he is, so it’s even worse.
@kylemarsh98815 жыл бұрын
@@tewksburydriver8624 eventually any one who is a casual to series baseball fan will find out who joe jackson is. i don't think anyone alive today has ever even seen him play and he's still worth a small fortune and just getting more valuable as his cards get older.
@tewksburydriver86245 жыл бұрын
kyle marsh ... what your not seeing is the hobby is comprised 90% white males over 40. Every kid collected cards in the 50’s- 80’s. Those same people who are now adults are the ones buying cards, expensive ones. Today’s kids for the most part do not collect baseball cards. A fraction of previous generations. When I was a kid there were card shops everywhere, card shows every month, and kids rode their bikes to grab a few packs of cards. Everything has changed in the hobby and I’m telling you, the inventory will far exceed demand within 20 years. I travel to card shows and they are ghost towns when it comes to younger people. I like cards because I collected as a kid. My 13 year old son who plays every sport could care less about cards and that goes for all of his friends too. There will be exceptions for the really popular players, but beyond that values will dive in my opinion. It is very hot right now but only because 40 plus year olds with money and nostalgia are supporting the hobby.

I used to be a major collector of baseball cards in my youth mostly because of my grandfather. He was drafted by the Phillies at his prime and I was the next male in the family because he had no sons. I would always trade around to get as many of the old cards as I could just to show him what I found. I had so many it was CRAZY. I sold them to a dealer when I was in college (some on eBay) when the new brands went too far with the prices. What a shame.

It greatly depends on which specific cards they are and in what condition they are in. Can you give me some examples of the cards? What kind of shape are they in?

@@11cards93 For example, 1957 Mays #10. 1959 Gibson #514. 1960 Aaron #300. What I know from viewing many videos is that PSA numbers like 7 are hard to get. These look darn good to me, fairly sharp corners, fairly good centering, but who knows. Thanks for your time.

If the cards will grade out above 7 it is worth it. Sharp corners, no blemishes or oils trapped somewhere on the cards and decent centering. If you think they would grade below that then you are typically better selling them as is. PSA cost can be substantial though.

Chump Johnson .. I certainly agree that not having a car payment is better than having one, but high interest credit card debt and student loans are much bigger problems people face. A car is a tool, depreciated one, but necessary. I have a truck payment and a mortgage and that is my only debt. I pay over 20% into retirement accounts and make extra principal payments on my mortgage. Car payment is fine if you are smart and make good financial decisions as a whole.
